Set List critique

Maybe Paul should have a word with Bruce Springsteen & Billy Joel, they both keep their big songs in but will continue to rotate others around, Springsteen even going as far in playing albums in full as myself have seen first hand. Again its great that Paul is able to still tour and put on these concerts but would it be so bad if people got to hear say Flaming Pie over Paperback Writer and Penny Lane over Back in the USSR.

Also interesting is that Billy never puts the first two rows on sale, because it was ending up with rich fat cats looking bored and impatient, as if to say, "Entertain me, Piano Man," as he says. So now he just has his crew pick people out of the crowd personally to sit in those rows. "That this usually results in a foreground that is both young and female may or may not be an unintended consequence, but Joel believes that it helps buck up the band." And of course those young women would be excited just to be there, but it's also a good idea to play songs they know, that get them even more excited, that they may likely know the words to. Does Paul's crew do this? I'd be kind of surprised if they don't, because of the reasons above, and also it "brightens up" the audience shots on the DVD.
Yes, Paul does this with the front row center tickets and 2nd row center tickets, at least it's done at the US shows; I don't know about Brazil or Europe. Most of the people who are in those seats have been upgraded from somewhere else. And usually they are young people - I have seen both men and women at the shows I've been to, but usually they are all young people.

There are no seats at Brazilian stadiums. Everyone standing up the whole time. The same goes for the floor section of his upcoming indoor arena concert in Rio. Therefore, it's not possible to upgrade anyone. However, there are seats at most of his shows in other South American countries, and front row center seats are not available for sale, just like in the US. Now let's speculate: any possible setlist surprises in november? I'm hoping for something from New, Venus And Mars or At The Speed Of Sound. In fact, a lot of people (myself included) have asked him on twitter to play Silly Love Songs with his Rickenbacker bass. How cool would that be?

Here's my pitch: Denny Laine will join Macca onstage for "Time To Hide."

I always liked that song! There is a ten day break between the last USA date and the first one in Brazil. Maybe the band can learn Silly Love Songs and Call Me Back Again! That would ROCK!!

I can't believe that, all these years later, Paul McCartney hasn't reunited with any surviving members of Wings. Fans would love an onstage reunion -- even if it's just a song or two. At this point, Nirvana's survivors have joined Macca onstage in New York and Seattle; Paul Weller, Ronnie Wood, Roger Daltrey, George Michael and k.d. lang have joined Macca onstage over the years. To see Denny Laine and Laurence Juber join Paul would be one of the best surprises of his career -- and it would also be a generous gesture. Any previous drama among them should be water-under-the-bridge now. Isn't that one of the gifts of growing older? Anyway, now that I've mentioned it, I've probably jinxed the idea now. LOL!

At Beatlefest in L.A. Denny Seiwell talked about how Paul considered doing a Wings reunion around the time Linda died, as a tribute to her. Paul nixed the idea because he felt that doing a Wings reunion without Linda just wouldn't be a Wings reunion.

My speculation? Not a damn thing is gonna change.

With all the love we have for Linda, a genuine Wings reunion is still possible in her absence. Paul had no problem calling a Cobain-less gathering an official "Nirvana reunion." So how would a Laine/Holley/Juber/Macca gathering not be a respectable Wings reunion?

Well, he wasn't married to Kurt Cobain for starters...

I still think it's highly unlikely that he would do "Silly Love Songs" since Linda was so integral to it, not to mention the live horns. Fun to think about, though, especially his bass playing.

With Wix up there, I don't the horns will even cross Paul's mind. It's for Linda, and I get that...but it hasn't stopped him with other Wings songs that feature her harmony.

Here's another reason Paul probably won't be messing with the set list too much: http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6296401/paul-mccartneys-out-there-tour-has-grossed-165-million-and Over $10 million just from the last five performances! I do think the article is premature in saying the Out There tour will be "ending" after South America.

It's a perfect example though, of how he attracts these audiences with the concept he's touring now anyway. 'Save Us', 'All Together Now', 'Lovely Rita' and 'Mr. Kite' instead of 'Jet', 'Penny Lane', 'Can't Buy Me Love' and 'I Saw Her Standing There' at the moment. Surely it's not too hard to add one 'Take It Away' or 'Goodnight Tonight'? And then not instead of 'Listen To What The Man Said', 'Hi Hi Hi' or 'Another Day', no.

Hat to disagree but IMO the majority of the crowd that attends his concerts barely tolerate non-Beatle songs. What makes anyone think they would care about seeing Mr. Laine or Mr. Juber on stage with Mr. McCartney?

If I remember correctly, there was an interview with either Brian or Rusty indicating that the November dates in South America will wind up this years touring. If that is in fact true, I wouldn't be surprised that any future dates in 2015 would be under a "new" tour name.

Exactly. Sad... but true.

yeah...a new tour name even if he doesn't change the setlist.
