Set List critique

If you guys could choose between Jet and Listen To What The Man Said, which one would you keep in the current setlist?
I would keep "Listen to..." one more time. I think "Jet" is a better concert song, but "Listen to" is probably a bigger hit in retrospect. But for selfish reasons, I've heard "Jet" five times...and "Listen to" only twice!
He could easily keep them both in the show, there are many overplayed songs still there, im sure you can guess which

The phrase "the hits" is bandied about quite a bit on this thread and Paul in the past has talked about playing "the hits" too, why are so many missing then? Let's look at the top twenty hits(UK/US) Paul has not played live ever or for quite awhile! If he's true to his word we'd have a number from this list played live, it fits the criteria perfectly! Yes, ideally I would re-arrange the opening to this without getting crazy at all... Hello Goodbye Jet Can't Buy Me Love Listen To What The Man Said Save Us Let Me Roll It

When I saw it, I was reminded of The Space Within Us DVD when Abe would always start one last chorus of "I'll Follow The Sun" and Paul would cut hiim off and throw his hands in the air and roll his eyes...then he'd start the last chorus.
Yeah, but wasn't that part of the act? Not trying to be difficult, but that time with Rusty was kind of weird. To me, at least.
Yes, that's what I'm trying to draw together here. Maybe it's a stretch, but I think Paul was depending on his shamltzy grandfather of the band routine with Rusty that night, except he didn't play it off as well as Abe did.
I was there, too. It was a funny moment to me because Paul called b.s. at the notion that it might've been intentional. Rusty has flubbed many notes over the years, which I don't mind -- and, quite frankly -- expect at a live, rock concert. Anyway, I think what compelled Macca to insist on that "do-over" were two selfless motivations, actually: -For Rusty to restore his cred with the audience (in the highly unlikely scenario that it was needed); -because that solo is one of George Harrison's finer moments on record, which Macca might've felt obligated to honor with an error-free performance. Just a theory. Or maybe a live-DVD of that particular show was planned? (after all, "audi" WAS in the house that night. ) Now, if Macca was trying to uncharacteristically, publicly flex his authoritative muscle, perhaps a little karma had intervened when Macca slipped and fell nearly face-first later on in the show. Now THAT I'd totally missed. I'm glad.

If one didn't know better, it would be easy to conclude that songs like "My Brave Face," "Off The Ground" and other solo rarities are seemingly recurring staples of McCartney's concert repertoire to this day. But most know that Macca's '89-'93 tours were hefty itineraries, and as a rule the setlists stayed intact with rare adjustments. " I would really question those numbers because Mr. McCartney played them only on one tour so unless he played over 100 concerts each on the 89 and 93 tours those numbers are kind of high.

Setlist.FM is far from trustworthy, but seeing as he did 103 regular shows during his comeback tour in 1989/1990 alone, and at that time the setlist was the same every. single. night. the numbers seem more or less accurate. 103 times 'Rough Ride' alone in 1989/1990. Same with 1993, 77 regular tour gigs alone, 77 times 'Peace in the Neighbourhood'.
-
With the exception of a brief break in the latter part of '93, Paul McCartney practically spent the entire year on the road. God knows how his plants survived.

OK, makes sense if he did that many shows. I just knew once the 89/90 tour was over songs like "My Brave Face" were never heard again live.
-
Obviously he's sticking to the regular Out There setlist (with a couple of changes) until a new tour comes along. That's when we'll get about a dozen different songs. He knows those songs will be enough to make us buy tickets again, so why use them now? It's a smart business strategy.

That's the truth, right there. I'm considering seeing him twice this summer based solely off rumors, doing the same show I've seen the past two times. The proof is in our pockets (or his rather) that he really doesn't have to change much to sell tickets. However, it says something much greater about his personal musical self-worth the more stagnant things remain...

Yes, the balance of songs he played is very telling once you only consider the songs played with the current band/in this century. They played every single Beatles song McCartney (mainly) wrote/sang in 2002-2015, except: 'Hold Me Tight', 'Every Little Thing', 'What You're Doing', 'Another Girl', 'Wild Honey Pie', 'Honey Pie', 'Martha My Dear', 'Rocky Raccoon', 'Why Don't We Do It in the Road?', 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' and 'Oh! Darling'. And, 'Love Me Do', 'P.S. I Love You' (hurrendous medley in 1989), 'I Wanna Be Your Man' and 'Help!'/'Strawberry Fields Forever' were all done at other tours, not by this band. Plus some nitpicking like 'Fixing A Hole' only played solo by McCartney since 2002 etc. Solo songs not from an era this band participated in, played since then, those bold played regularly (longer than one leg for example): 70's: Every Night Maybe I'm Amazed Another Day Too Many People Ram On Live And Let Die My Love Hi, Hi, Hi C Moon Band On The Run Jet Bluebird Mrs. Vandebilt Let Me Roll It Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five Junior's Farm Venus And Mars / Rock Show Letting Go Listen To What the Man Said Let 'Em In Mull Of Kintyre Wonderful Christmastime Coming Up 80's: Here Today Ebony And Ivory 90's: In Liverpool Hope Of Deliverance Cosmically Conscious Calico Skies Flaming Pie ('Great Day' and 'Goodnight Tonight' were played without the band in the last 15 years. 'Dress Me Up Like A Robber' as a spoken word piece) This must sum it up. The only post-1976 songs played regularly on tour by him in the last 15 years: 'Coming Up' (1979) played on tour in 2002/2003, and a few times in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013. 'Here Today' (1982) played on tour in 2002-2004, a few times in 2007 and 2009-2015. 'Calico Skies' (1997), played on tour in 2002-2005, Summer 2009 and few times in 2007 and 2010. 'Flaming Pie' (1997), played on tour in 2004-2005 and 2009 and a few times in 2007 and 2008. About 350 concerts since then, in who knows how many countries. Cold hard figures.

He HAS to play In Liverpool at the Echo Arena, surely!

That would be very nice, but he sang that one back in 2008. However, every time he plays in his hometown he does either a rare early rock and roll song (Maggie May, Honey Hush, Hippy Hippy Shake) or something else that is unique (Penny Lane, Mull Of Kintyre, I Lost My Little Girl, In Liverpool, the 1990 premiere of that Lennon Medley, the 2008 premiere of A Day In The Life), so I'm expecting another rarity. Maybe the premiere of Early Days, and also One After 909?

It seems that Can't Buy Me Love has replaced Get Back at the second Tokyo concert, two weeks after my suggestion on page 117 of this thread. When was it last sung prior to this tour? 2009? Maybe someone from Paul's camp has been reading this message board, after all. If he does She's A Woman (or Nowhere Man, but that's unlikely) at the Budokan, I'll have no doubts anymore.

Ballroom Dancing would work well in the encore. I've a feeling his new tour will add that one and Girls School
