Set List critique

Still digging these live performances of "Temporary Secretary," kiddies. For those fans who remain befuddled by this bold set-list addition: If you can appreciate live versions of Hot Chip's "Over & Over," then Macca and his band blazing through "TS" shouldn't be such a head-scratcher. Still hoping for more surprises in the future.
I just don't like the song! I intentionally haven't listened to any clips of any of the songs I haven't heard before on this leg, since the first-timers for me are limited... -Temporary Secretary -Another Girl -Can't Buy Me Love I'm hoping that by going to Philly AND Charlottesville I'll get two variations on the set and hopefully pick up "Got To Get You Into My Life" and "I'm Looking Through You" somewhere along the way (I've only heard each of them on one year in '09 & '11 respectively).

The original 1980 record could use a minor tweak (lowering one of the vocal tracks of the chorus in the mix); I'll grant that. But it really is a progressive track for its time. I honestly believe that it paved the way for similarly quirky, tech-pop tracks like Hot Chip's "Over & Over" and so many more.

It may well have done that. It's still like fingernails on a blackboard, and I'd still rather have my teeth drilled than listen to that song.

Oh, you silly kiddies.

From my point of view hearing TS on it's live debut was a real thrill and shock, having that happen probably elevated it a little as it's by no means a favourite of mine. Having Love2travel with me, who loves it, probably added to the thrill and excitement of it's playing.
-
I saw many people dancing to the rhythm of Temporary Secretary at each concert I went to. Many of those folks had probably never listened to that song before but were still enjoying it a lot, so that means it really works well live. The images shown on the screens were quite cool as well.
-
I'm actually really digging Temporary Secretary after hearing him do it live. It worked really well and sounded much better in person than it does in the Youtube clips. In fact, the Youtube clips in general don't do justice to just how good a Paul McCartney show still sounds.
-
I have always liked Temporary Secretary. Strange pick for the large Beatle-y crowd but I like it. A step in the right direction. Now if he could re-examine the rest of his solo career...

I just don't like the song!
TS never was a favorite of mine from McCartney II either, but I really think it works "live". Can't wait to hear it in Philly!!

I'm definitely excited to hear something new, there's always a thrill in that no matter what. I also forgot to include "Hope For The Future" on that little list of songs I haven't heard...I much prefer that to "Temporary Secretary"!

Well, get a load of this: I never cared for "Too Many People" until McCartney started performing it in concert in 2005. I never cared for "1985" until McCartney started performing it in concert in 2010. I never cared for "Mrs. Vandebilt" until McCartney started performing it in concert in 2008. They have all since become steadfast favorites. Live performances do make a difference.

well, get a load of this..... I loved 'em all before he played them! I'm just giving you a hard time. I admit, that can work at times. I didn't know "Calico Skies" before I saw Paul the first time and because of it's inclusion in the set, I fell in love with it and bought the Flaming Pie album literally changing my life.

Touche! That's awesome about "Calico Skies"!

Hope for The Future sounded terrific both nights in London, but of course for most it was a toilet or drinks break song which was annoying. Paul even commented on people not filming it as they didn't care for it. He did make a wider point of it going dark when people didn't like certain songs, but he "didn't care, much"

I have the remedy for that situation: Open the damn show with a live version of the Thrash Mix of "Hope For The Future."

Aside from the Destiny game, I still insist that Macca's peeps sent the wrong version of "Hope For The Future" to radio -- and too soon. The Thrash Mix of this song would've appealed to program directors, particularly following the the success of "Four Five Seconds."
-
The Trash Mix is good. It surprised me when I played the vinyl 12" for the first time. I enjoy the live performances I've heard of the Main version on youtube, but would have no objection to hear both live.
-
I'm surprised it's stayed in the set this long...I'm glad it has, but quite surprised. I'm also surprised that of the four songs from NEW he decided to drop "Everybody Out There".......on the.....OUT.....THERE....tour : I'll never understand!!!

I can't think of a song where my opinion has changed after hearing Paul (or anyone else, for that matter) do it live.
