Ha, imagine McCartney posting this...
The Stones ALWAYS run through about 100 songs in some way shape or form during rehearsals. However they always end up with pretty much the same 22 songs in concert albeit in different order. Their sets are as static and predictable as Pauls, in most cases less so. For a band that started circa 1962, they are really interested in playing the warhorses in concert. Yes, there are occasions when they surprise, but they are conservative in the extreme with the songs they play.
About a year ago, Mick Jagger was quoted that fans don't want to hear new songs. Anyway, it still seems that the only act from their era who reliably puts together a fresh show is Eric Clapton. However, just like Macca, the last quarter of the show is the same-ol'-same-ol' ("Wonderful Tonight," "Cocaine," a Cream classic). But the preceding 75% could be anything, and that's what I love about his concerts. Clapton's Journeyman came out in 1989 -- the same year as McCartney's Flowers In The Dirt. "Pretending" wasn't as big of a hit as "My Brave Face," yet Clapton felt it was time to perform it again in the recent past. I don't think any Flowers songs have been performed since 1990.

" I expect any artist to wind down the show with the hits and have the crowd going nuts. The thing is artists like Clapton play all different kinds of stuff (including the blues) before the last 25%. Mr. McCartney on the other hand seems to feel that he needs huge audience reaction after almost every song.

And THERE lies the problem: Paul McCartney's unwavering insecurity. I've bought concert DVDs of artists ranging from Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie, k.d. lang to newer bands like Passion Pit and Fitz & The Tantrums. Did I know EVERY song? Nope! Did I enjoy the shows? Damn straight! Did I discover new favorites as a result? Yep! C'mon, Macca. Enough "Long & Winding Road" after the first set. Enough "Let It Be" toward the conclusion of the main set. Enough "Yesterday" in the encores. We can live without two of those.

" Wish more fans had your attitude when it came to songs they did not know in a McCartney concert. If they did and gave better response he might get over his insecurity a bit and play some more solo songs.

He puzzles me so much. Doesn't even mention his reissues in his concerts.
-
Why would he drop Yesterday and Let it be, two of his best songs.
-
If he did "Beautiful Night" and "House Of Wax" in their place, you wouldn't miss 'em.

I agree. I don't think he sells his most recent CD's at his concerts either. He choices on singles from his albums sometimes makes me shake my head. Ever notice he never really tells a story between songs about a solo song with the obvious exception of "Here Today". The best you get out of him is "this is a new" song - lol. He never introduces the band by name like other performers do and trust me most of the audience does not have a clue who they are due to being first timers. I could go on but don't want to make this a novel - lol.

We wouldn't; but the majority of ticket buyers (ie) one time attendees would - absolutely they would! If you only see him once you"d feel ripped off with no Let It Be snd most certainly, no Yesterday, in a big formal concert setting.
-
A smartly assembled setlist would allow him to give fans like me the show we want. Even if he saved just one of those staples for the latter part of the show, the crowd would eat it up. For Chrissakes, it's been 26 years of this Beatlemania broadway show. Time for a sho' 'nuff Paul McCartney concert. Now.

Isn't that list much, much smaller these days?

Impossible to know. I would say so in your country. I get where you're coming from though.

I don't think it's THAT much smaller. Yes, many have seen him but I bet many have just put it on their bucketlist. oooh...go & see a Beatle.
But there are many other Beatles songs that he could drop. OMG...many.

Let It Be and Yesterday have to stay. Rigby needs to put back into the jar by the door and The Long and Winding Road should be retired too. Let Me Roll It...absolutely time to go.

I agree, he has to do "Yesterday" and "Let It Be; for the first timers. "Let Me Roll" definitely needs to go !!

What he needs to do is a few shows for the solo fans in a small venue in selected cities. (NY, London etc). Film the shows and make a DVD of it and sell it only to PM fans on this web site. In other words, a Paul McCartney bootleg - lol. I have mentioned this before and think it would be so cool and different. My selections below. That Was Me Take It Away My Brave Face Promise To You Girl Run Devil Run New Fine Line Ever Present Past House of Wax Hope of Deliverance Little Willow Early Days Dear Boy About You I Can Bet Nothing Too Much Just Out Of Sight Coming Up Encore Ballroom Dancing I've Had Enough Soily Let me add that these songs would be from the following albums/CD and would be a nice cross section of his Mr. McCartney's non-Beatle career. Tug of War Memory Almost Full Flowers In The Dirt CHAOS Run Devil Run Off The Ground Flaming Pie New Driving Rain Electric Arguments McCartney II London Town Wings Over America

He can also get rid of Blackbird & Here Today. Along with those 2 songs...get rid of the rising platform.

nice selection! I would add Not such a bad boy, Put it there, The world tonight, Tiny bubble, Too much rain. And what's about a Press song
I could imagine Only love remains, or Move over busker. As special encore wings song I'd like Good night tonigt or if still possible So glad to see you here.

"Here Today" is his Lennon tribute so doubt he will get rid of it but IMO he could do song like "Early Days" instead.
