Lewisohn's Book

I got this book when it came out and have been using major will power not to read this yet even though I'm wanting to dig in. I decided to save it for after I have my surgery and won't be able to do much for a while, so this will keep me occupied!
You will definitely be occupied (and mesmerized) Good luck with your surgery!

] Looking forward to reading it finally. And thanks, just want to get it over with!

YAY! The Extended Edition has finally gone on sale again at Amazon UK (from 120 down to 74.40 pounds). I ordered it tonight - Merry Christmas to me
That is good news but I would add that Amazon have been selling it at £74 since it was originally published. Happy reading, its an excellent book.

Best of luck with your surgery. I had my 2nd kidney transplant 12/08/12. You are going to love this book. I finished it last week and I can not wait for the next volume. I found it very hard to put it down. I am a first generation fan and I was lucky to have seen them in concert: August 31, 1964 in Atlantic City, NJ. I am at a place in reading this that the stories are much more familiar and I am learning something new on almost every page. I do hope that your surgery is successful. Best Wishes!

Really? Not to U.S. customers...I've been checking Amazon.co.uk every single day for several weeks. I failed to order it when originally offered at 74 pounds, then it was back to 120 pounds, then 108 pounds for a couple of days. The last few weeks it was listed at 120 pounds again until Christmas night! Thanks for the good wishes - I'm sure I'll love it!

Thanks lennon_08518! Hope you're feeling better! Yes, just have to have the will power to save it for a few more weeks, then I can enjoy the book as well!

I'm going to be sad when I finish part one! I bet we have to wait at least 5 years for the next one! I need to offer my services to Mark Lewisohn as a research assistant so he can get it done sooner!

I am sure he has had many many offers. hmmm...maybe that's why it takes so long...he needs to politely say no to so many!

Just finished the first book of the Expanded Edition, up to Litherland Town Hall. What a read!

I've only just started to read the extended edition. I'm a slow reader and taking in all the notes will slow me down more, but I am thoroughly enjoying this book and cant stop thinking about it. I loved the starting chapter of the blossoming relationship of John & Paul - ML really describes and writes likes an obsessed fan, which of course he is but it comes across like you would endorse every word. I'm finishing the origins of the Lennon family, what I found interesting was the way he describes not only the family tree, but the circumstances which brought the family from Ireland to Liverpool and the conditions they lived in. It's amazing how their ancestors lives seem to be spiralling around each others until John & Paul met. I thought this book might have too much detail that it would be spoilt. But so far I have digested every word and wanted more.

I received the deluxe edition for Christmas, and since it's been a few months since I read the standard edition, I'm looking forward to reading this freshly. It looks fantastic! Wish Mark would hurry up with Vols 2 and 3!

Can someone who has read all of Vol. 1 answer a question (I sent this same question to Beatlefan mag today) Okay, does everyone know of the youtube video of the Beatles in the Cavern singing Some Other Guy live? Mark states that that day (Aug. 22, 1963) was not filmed, doesn't he? There were 2 other times they were filmed for Granada TV he says, but these were in a studio. Can someone please explain this to me? Is Mark wrong or is the Cavern video from a different date? This is the only "discrepancy" I found in the book, which I think is absolutely stunning in its detail and readability (like a novel rather than just a bunch of dry facts) I cannot wait for Vol. 2!!

No, Mark doesn't state that. He makes it clear that the Beatles were filmed on August 22nd 1962 (not 1963) and that two versions of 'Some Other Guy' were filmed although only one audio recording exists. Because of this the Granada tv crew returned to the Cavern on September 5th to record the Beatles but not to film them. It gets a bit confusing but I think the 'Some Other Guy' footage combines film from 22nd August with the audio from two weeks later......something like that anyway.

I meant 1962, that was a typo. Well, I need to reread it, and also see what Beatlefan says. They are running a 3-part interview with Mark. Pt. 1 was in the most recent issue which just came out.

According to the NY Times: ?Tune In,? the first installment, takes the group through the end of 1962. Mr. Lewisohn said he expected the second volume to be out in 2020 (he won?t be pinned down, but guesses it will take the story to 1966), with the conclusion turning up about the time he turns 70. ?This is, very literally, my life?s work,? he said.

I guess he's saving the REALLY juicy stuff for when Paul and Ringo and the Beatle wives have shuffled off this mortal coil and can't argue with his facts.

Now that you mention it, I wonder...
