Kestrel and anyone else, is this 1968 during the White Album sessions? Or early Abbey Road?
Ah, now this is a very interesting photograph/session which no one (I believe) has been able to precisely date.
It was taken in their Apple studio during February 1969. Paul had just shaved off his bushy beard following the last day of filming on the Let It Be project on 31st January 1969. So, you are right, its early Abbey Road era but what they were rehearsing/recording isn't clear. They were only at Apple on 5 February and that was for a mixing session. Then they were recording I Want You (She's So Heavy) on the 22 and 23 (24 they were tape copying) February but all this work was done at Trident studios and not Apple !!
Thanks! Just to be clear, are you saying the pic is Feb. 5, 1969 because this is Apple?

If it is Apple (and I'm almost certain it is) then it could well be February 5 but that's only based on the fact that no other date has been reported of the Beatles working at the Apple studio during that February. According to Mark Lewisohn, on that date stereo mixes and a tape compilation was being made of the rooftop performance. But he doesn't even state that the Beatles were there that day although I'm sure they would have been. And if they were, then they may well have gone into the studio and performed / recorded, even though the session went undocumented. So Feb. 5, 1969 is the best date but its no where near 100% confirmed.
I seem to recall thinking the session was from late February as alternative photos (I think) showed John growing his beard (he was still clean shaven at the end of January) but this was something I was looking into a couple of years ago and I can't remember now which conclusion I came to.

More cords than chords in that photo!

must be said the jackets on the back of John and George's chairs look very familiar. From the rooftop? So possibly a bit later, but not too much later... fashion didn't stand still too long for the boys... later enough for Paul to have had a shave.

Yes, I noticed John's coat that he wore in the rooftop concert! I just wish Paul had shaved for the Let It Be movie - I remember seeing it as a 15 year old in 1970 and being so disappointed! Wanted to see his gorgeous face!

Yeah - he danced with all the women except his wife!

Hi everyone,
On this special day, I would like to wish John Lennon a happy birthday by dedicating this thread to him.
As I don't really have any words left, I'll let you do the talking.

Let's try to find a better photo of John. That one is printed backwards. ️

Again? But it's becoming a habit to put the pictures upside down and why does it always fall on me?

The pictures aren't upside down, they are "flipped" (printed backwards) That was the first one I remembered you posting that was backwards. I see it all the time on Facebook!
Here's another one in honor of what would have been John's 81st birthday:
