I know I'm not being totally "objective" but I'm very confident that my "New Classics and Hidden Gems" (3 CD Standard Edition) Compilation is generally better than 2016's "Pure McCartney" 4 CD Package.
For starters, "New Classics and Hidden Gems" does include "Live" Versions of Classics (e.g. Maybe I'm Amazed, Every Night, Put It There etc), Great B Sides, Deep Album Cuts and even some Great Unreleased Tracks ( e.g. A Love For You, On The Wings of a Nightingale, Yvonne's The One etc.).
There were songs like "Young Boy", "Riding To Vanity Fair", "Friends To Go", and "Little Lamb Dragonfly" that I couldn't believe weren't on the "Pure McCartney" Compilation. I'm sure there are more examples I could give with some research. As a big time McCartney Fan, these are the songs I would want in my Collection. Of course, you could quibble over a selection or two, but on the whole, I really like all the Songs on this 3 CD Set.
I still think Paul has plenty of high quality songs for a 4 or even 5 CD Deluxe Set. My question is:Would Paul be better off doing a "Standard Edition" Compilation separately or doing both the Standard and Deluxe Editions simultaneously?
Thanks -

I'm still thinking about my last post and the question I asked.
I'm leaning towards Paul releasing only the "Standard Edition" (the initial 3CD Package immediately above) first and then doing the "Deluxe Edition" later as the "Follow-Up" Package. Here is my logic:
The initial Standard Edition (3 CD Set) would have a lower starting "Price Point" to get Paul's latest Compilation off the ground (Pardon my Pun).
Secondly, the initial "Standard Edition" Set would "Wet the fans appetite" for the "Deluxe" Package.I keep thinking about "truest great songs" not on the initial Package. How about the additional great songs on Chaos and Creation, Run Devil Run, Kisses on the Bottom, McCartney 3 etc, etc.
How about songs from "Underrated Albums" like Press to Play, Off the Ground and Back to the Egg! I realize that this is a "Compilation type Product" and you need to include just his top tier songs. You also have to realize that this is Paul McCartney we're talking about and how "prolific" he has been over many years. It's like the "initial 3 CD" doesn't begin to scratch the surface of his great Discography. You need a follow-up! The initial Package is not nearly enough in my humble opinion.
If you agree with me, let me know and if you also disagree let me also know and why.

I have to say that the fact there isn't much interest in releasing a "New and Updated" McCartney Compilation is surprising to me. Maybe it will take a brand new and original 2024 Album/ CD to make this Dream of mine happen. Please take a look at my 3CD Package of "New Classics and Hidden Gems" immediately above and let me know what you think. Compared to 2016's Pure McCartney (Paul's last Compilation) the Track Listing contains very few duplications. Even when I do repeat a few songs, I do use a completely new version mainly in the way of a "Live Performance".
"Pure McCartney" was very generous using a total of 8 "Flaming Pie" Songs (the most from any Paul "Post Beatles" Album) but even in that instance they didn't pick the Best Flaming Pie Songs. While "The Song We Were Singing" (Opening Track) and the "Title Track (Flaming Pie) were good songs, they're not nearly as good as "Young Boy", "Heaven On A Sunday" or "Somedays" in my opinion. That is why I would have to include those 3 Songs on a subsequent (and maybe Final) McCartney Career Spanning Compendium.
What do you guys think of my title for this newly Proposed Package "New Classics and Hidden Gems". If you don't like it, give us a Different Title.
Thanks,
BJ Conlee -
On Disc 3, I included "I Want to Come Home" as the last track on the Standard Edition to "New Classics and Hidden Gems." As you might remember, this song was the lead track from the Robert Dinero Movie "Everybody's Fine."
In my opinion, this great "Ballad" should be much better known. The movie "tanked" and unfortunately had a very short run in the Theaters.
That being said, I still think it's a great song and belongs on any Career Spanning McCartney Compilation. -

If I do say so myself, I really like the 60 songs I selected for "New Classics and Hidden Gems" (Just scroll up to see the 3 Discs above). I like the B Sides and the Unreleased Songs I chose. And this is just the "Stand Edition." If you added the additional songs for the "Deluxe Edition" (5 CD Package) you would have a total of 160 Songs. I am including 20 Songs per Disc. This brings up another question and I'm no expert on CD Technology. With all the new advances in CD Technology, is there a way you can include more tracks per Disc? For example, are there new physical CD's where you can get more than the 20 Tracks I'm doing. Can you get an individual CD that could include 50 Tracks? If Yes is the answer, than you do the Deluxe Edition with using just 2 CD's in the overall package. The "Deluxe" would have a total of 100 songs.
50 (songs per Disc)
x 2
= 100 total Tracks -
@b-j-conlee
If you look at the specific songs I've listed for the "Standard Edition" of "New Classics and Hidden Gems" (the 3Disc Compilation directly above) the key for the "Deluxe Edition" is to include 100 "no repeat" songs. Paul easily has that amount of good to very good songs in his Discography which is 2nd to none. In that way, big fans of Paul McCartney would buy both the Standard and Deluxe Editions. To me, that makes a strong case for doing the "Deluxe Edition" 6 months later. Because the "Standard Edition" Tracks are so good, you have a very strong "built in" audience to buy the Part 2 version of "New Classics and Hidden Gems".
I'm going to list these additional (No Repeat) songs for the Deluxe Edition. -

To Summarize, the Standard Edition of "New Classics And Hidden Gems" is a 3 CD Set. The Deluxe Edition, in my opinion , should be a 5 CD Set. One Key to the overall packages is that none of the songs from the 3 CD Package should be repeated in the 5 CD Package. In this way, the hard core McCartney fans would be highly motivated to buy both the "Standard Edition" and the subsequent "Deluxe Edition".
As I continue to do the 3rd, 4th and 5th Deluxe Discs, I will try to make sure I don't do any repeats from the initial 3 CD Standard Edition. If you notice in what I have done so far, I continue to include "Rare" tracks like "Live" versions, Paul Demos, great Paul songs only on Soundtrack Albums/CDs, Unreleased Songs etc etc This is what would make this future Compilation so special and different from past Compilation Efforts. -

On Track #12 (Distractions) of Disc 3 above, I inadvertently duplicated this Track because I had put it on the previous Disc 2.
A good replacement for "Distractions" would be:Waterspout
This track is still Unreleased. Waterspout, written during the London Town Sessions, was supposed to be included on the "All the Best" Compilation but it never happened.
