I LOVE this. I bought this DVD called "Fun with the Fab 4" recently just to get this clip. The rest of the stuff isn't worth much but that was worth the price. It's such a great clip and Paul was really good in it. Just pointing that out because he's thought of as the "least actor" of the bunch but he was really good here, very funny and charming and he used his voice real well.

I love all the Beatles (and Brian) in this! George looks great (and kind of shy)."How often do you wash your hair in a week?" OMG, get ovet it already...

I know, always with the hair questions, the Beatles had so much patience, having to deal with that all the time.

It seems as though those ridicoulous hair questions are some sort of back-up question the interviewers use whenever they're unsure of what to ask next. "Oh God, what to ask them now. Ah, got one! How often do you wash your hair/Wil you get a haircut soon/Is that a wig?" etc. What about asking them about the music or just about anything but their haircuts. I really don't blame the four of them for getting less and less enthusiastic about the press-conferences, as you can clearly see they do when comparing some of the early ones with some of those held in the late 60's.

Is there a high quality video of the Paperback Writer/Rain video the Beatles made for the Ed Sullivan show? The ones on YouTube have extremely poor picture quality:

Still photo from the Paperback Writer/Rain video shoot. Can't help you there, but thanks for posting! I have never seen this before. In the Anthology, it looks like Ed Sullivan just showed the two videos and not these recordings. I wonder if the videos were shown later on? I find it a bit ridiculous though, that it's all playback, even the clapping sounds like it's fake. And the vocal played backwards in Rain could of course never be played live, could that be the reason? Or does anyone else know why they didn't do it live? Maybe it was just easier with the sound..?

Haha! I always thought Paul was the worst actor of the bunch just because he tried TOO hard, bless 'im! He's so theatrical in "A Hard Days Night"... but it makes him the best viewing of the four, just cos me and my friend love laughing at him! (affectionatley, of course!!) I'd love to buy this "Fun with the Fab 4"... what else is on it??

Same, I love the way John speaks and how Paul looks. It makes me laugh all the time. I didn't know the play was in honour of Shakespeare's 400th birthday though. Then again, why would they perform Shakespeare?

Honestly that's the only thing of note I think. It's mainly just a lot of stuff you can find elsewhere, press conferences, maybe a few performances. It was only about $10(US) but I love that clip so much it was worth it for me. I always thought some of it was the writing too, though. I think Paul was best when he was given something sly or sarcastic to say(like in Help! when they are in the pub, just before Ringo falls down into the cellar and Paul says something like "You're a rat underneath..." as he's taking a drink) or about admiring that bloke who sacrificed himself in the Antarctic, on the other hand I always loved "ZAP!!!" from AHDN. LOL I remember watching an interview with one of the German people from their Hamburg days, maybe the guy who was kind of the bouncer? And he said Paul was sort of the most theatrical on stage and he meant it in a good way, in the sense of putting on a show. I think doing voices and such are kind of part of his personality.

Oh man, he does the BEST voices! I always thought while John is the funniest in interviews, Paul is the funniest on studio outtakes and Christmas Message outtakes. The best voices, the most random and the most imaginative. I just love on the Christmas message outtakes he starts saying... "it's all very well to say we're going on the cheap holiday this year. We'll get the time, we'll get the tan - oh yes! But is it worth it in a rowing boat?" LOL. Where did that COME from?? and in the outtakes of "Think For Yourself" where he randomly yells at John in british accent "Listen Terence! If you want to leave the amateur dramatics DO!" Ohhh...ohh.. and THIS:
-
Oh yeah that's from the extra footage on the First US Visit, that's fantastic. If he hadn't been a rock star, he could have been a top notch voice actor for animation and stuff. He doesn't even sound like himself.

I just stumbled upon this video of "I Feel Fine Fish and Chips" on youtube. At first I thought it was some kind of video joking about The Beatles but it turns out it really is "I Feel Fine" with a touch of fish and chips! The four of them are certainly quite hungry aren't they?! I guess they ran out of ideas on how to make yet another promo video. Anyway, if you feel like watching:
