McCartney Concert Tour Breakdown

I think maybe the increase in his appearances may also have something to do with simply getting older, becoming more aware, as most of us do, of his own mortality, and how quickly time is passing. He also seems concerned with his place in history, wanting to make sure he is not forgotten, and that he gets recognition. I remember first thinking this back when he was in his fifties. I'm sure the deaths of Linda and George, and others, made him even more aware that our time isn't unlimited. We get to that certain age, and suddenly memories really are "longer than the road that stretches out ahead."
Ya reckon? He seems to be obsessed with it - to the point of it consuming him! Certainly his Beatles heavy setlists reflect that. He can't see that his place in history is assured. It has been for decades. As Oscar Wilde said... ?One should absorb the colour of life, but one should never remember its details. Details are always vulgar.?

Asia is not a huge focus but one that has been hit a couple of times. Japan - 25 shows in 3 cities (2014). Tokyo with 17 Australia - 18 shows in 6 cities on the 1975 Wings over the World and 1993 New World Tours. Each tour has similar number of dates and only 1 difference in cities (Brisbane in 1975, Paramatta in 1993) NewZealand (1993), Korea (2014) and Abu Dhabi (2011) have 1 show each. RamblinRed

Latin and especially South America has been a big focus for Macca's tours the last 5 years. Brazil has probably been the big winner here with 15 shows in 9 cities, including 11 shows in 8 cities the last 5 years. Mexico City has gotten 9 out of 10 shows in Mexico including 4 in the last 5 years. Beyond that there have been shows in 1 city each in Argentina - 5 shows (2010) Chile - 3 shows (2014) Columbia - 1 show (2012) Ecuador - 1 show (2014) Paraguay - 1 show (2012) Peru - shows (2014) Uraguay - 1 show (2014) Puerto Rico - 1 show (2010) RamblinRed

Canada has been on a good run the last 5 years. 20 shows total, but 12 shows in the last 5 years in 8 cities. over his career Macca has played in 9 Canadian cities in 6 Provinces. Toronto (7), Montreal (4) and Winnepeg (2) have had more than one. Edmonton, Vancouver, Halifax, Ottawa, Quebec City, and Regina have also gotten shows. RamblinRed

And according to Monty Python Oscar Wilde said George Bernard Shaw said... "His Majesty is like a stream of bat's p*ss".

Yeah we Aussies are lapping this up...

When I used to be in band in school, I always felt something special being part of the music as it was happening. You can transcend time as you are marking time. I'm sure its that type of thing for Paul - like going home.

Paul's songs never get old, that's for sure.
Maybe for you, but when you've heard Hey Jude for the umpteenth time since 1968, it does get a bit old.
But the live performance is much more about the experience than just the song. People get into it old and young. Its fun to get swept up in the moment on a song that everyone in the house knows by heart.
Sorry, but he could drop Hey Jude from his setlist and I wouldn't mind at all.

Here here. The only enjoyment it gives me in concert is looking at the crowd reaction when he starts it. And of course that's the reason he keeps playing it. The song itself no longer moves me.

Gotta keep in mind that there is at least one person at the show (probably many) for whom it is their first time hearing Paul live. 12 years ago, that was me - you never forget your first time!

Wasn't the gig in 2013 billed as his first gig ever in Poland?

True. I've been to one and done concerts where I was very disappointed that the performer didn't play a popular song. And while I might skip certain songs on a CD or playlist (Hey Jude or Long and Winding Road), it is a totally different experience hearing them live with a big crowd. I don't mind that he still plays those.

Same. Knebworth '90 was about as good as it gets, but after The Olympics, Superbowl, Live 8, several live-albums/home-videos, five concerts that I personally attended and on and on... ...it's not quite the kumbaya-moment that it used to be for me.

Went back and re-looked at this using Macca's website. He are a couple of updated totals (note, non-full shows - like 9/11, 12-12-12 concerts are not included in the totals). 1970's - 138 shows 1980's - 41 shows 1990's - 144 shows 2000's - 172 shows 2010's - 139 shows (so far). He has been pretty consistent the last 5 years 2009 - 20 shows 2010 - 33 shows 2011 - 24 shows 2012 - 19 shows 2013 - 33 shows 2014 - 30 shows (so far) 2007 and 2008 were the down period of the last 10 years with 9 shows total those 2 years - mostly promotional shows. Given what he was going through personally at that time that makes sense. The biggest show periods were 1975-76 - 83 shows 1989-90 - 103 shows 1993 - 81 shows 2002-2003 - 92 shows RamblinRed
