RE: SECOND SINGLE FROM "NEW" - "QUEENIE EYE"
It look like it starts with just Paul on the piano. Next comes Johnny Depp, who fancies himself too cool to do anything but just sit and tap his feet to the song on his ipod. Sean Penn sits there gloomy looking down at his feet. Meryl Streep spelling out the O-U-T then giving the baseball umpires "you're out" wave. More and more people pop in, "interpreting the song," some stranger than others, until the room is full.

RE: New - Track-by-track thoughts
Epworth was 3/3 in my book. "Save Us" is a song I woke up with in my head after playing the album a couple of times yesterday. "Queenie Eye" and the O-U-T spells out is a lot of fun. "Road" (no pun intended) has a driving bass beat which is outstanding. I hear a little bit of U2 in the rhythm section. It gets better and better with each listening. Johns went with the first take on the vocals, and it worked fine on "Early Days" which is a moving song. The vocals and acoustic remind me a bit of "Little Willow" but more aged. It's also "Rocky Raccoon" folk/country. However, Paul's voice isn't really up to the task on "Hosanna." I think the rhyme in the lyrics in "Alligator" are a bit forced, and it's the music not the words that carries the song. "New" has yet to get stale after my 100th (or more) listening. Along with the 3 Epworth songs, "New" is the first go-to song on the album. "Everybody Out There" may be the best of the 5 Martin productions. I can understand how some say "On My Way to Work" has a kind of feel from Paul's middle bit in "Day In the Life." I have yet to develop an appreciation for "Appreciate" or "Looking at Her." "I Can Bet" isn't particularly memorable either. A solid album in total, but c'mon, it's not his best post-Beatles work. That is still "band on the Run" and "Ram."

RE: The Cube

There's a guy on ebay selling 9 cubes set and it seems to me he stole from one of FYE stores.
I saw...he probably works there. Still stealing, but I doubt he actually broke in and stole them. More crop up as the day goes on...I'm keepin an eye.
I was very careful not to tell the guy who sold me mine what these are selling for on ebay. I could just see that guy, quietly taking the remaining ones home when he closes up shop and then uploading them on ebay, depriving some fans of the chance to have one.
There is one listing for 9 cubes and they show the shipping box was addressed to the Store Manager - FYE 195 Forest Ave Glen Cove, NY. That manager should have a lot of explaining to do about how this listing ended up on EBAY.

I would really like to thank Kestrel for this thread. The reason why I looked this up is because when i heard 'New' this morning, i was absolutely convinced certain songs, particularly 'Save Us', was recorded for Off The Ground. His voice sounds younger on some songs like he sang them 20 years ago compared to others on 'New'. In fact, i still stand by it. That vocal is from 1993, I'm sure. Others- like the title track, sound like he recorded them recently. But no way for 'Save Us'. His voice sounds way much younger.
Then how do you explain Epworth's involvement ?
ZING! I think you've hit the nail on the head! Paul Epworth was 19 in 1993.
Well, one could explain it the same way they do with Lennon's involvement on "Free as a Bird" fifteen years after he died. Paul, George and Ringo worked from a demo tape. Having said that, the younger vocal theory is nonsense.

good marketing this time around
Good for him. I now have 3 copies, the Target and Best Buy exclusives and the FYE cube, a productive and expensive morning.
I have 1 album from a record store-- 2 cubes- one order off Amazon $20 bucks ... & one I'm getting from Japan....
Record store I went to would only sell you one cube. which is all I wanted anyway.

RE: The Cube
I don't know what I'll do with 3 copies of the deluxe album, so I'll probably give 2 away to friends. I'm a completist also, though I doubt I'll get the Japanese import.

I bought mine in Towson, outside of Baltimore, at an indie store when they opened at 10. Sorry, I can't hook you up as they were very limited and one per customer. The store told me they only had a few.
was it Record and Tape Traders? That was my first stop. My classes totally killed any chances of being there at opening. I practically live there! But, classes from 9-3 made that impossible today.
That's the one. You were not allowed to reserve one so I dashed over there before 10. There was a line outside at opening, but luckily I was the only one looking for the McCartney album. Sorry, you were shut out on this.

Bruce M.:
Addendum: I finally broke down and listened to the sample of the studio version of "Save Us." THAT should have been the single.
I haven't been overly impressed with the live versions we've heard before. To me, it's a song asking to be in the soundtrack for the next Marvel Avengers or some other superhero movie. 'cause in the heat of battle you got something that'll save us save us now. http://www.broadwayworld.com/videoplay.php?colid=593184 OTOH, Queenie Eye has really grown on me after repeated plays.

Nancy R:
Bill, I think it's: "There are rules you never told me" and "Life's a game, rags to riches" Let me know what you think.
Thanks to both of you, I heard it your way, after I knew what to listen for. Is it just me or does the song end on the same sounding note so it you had it on a continuous loop, it's seamless?

I'm having a problem with the first line in particular, but these are the lyrics from what i can tell. Please feel free to let me know what I may have missed. I'm sure Ringo loves the O-U-T spells "out" Though the Russian never told me Never came up with a plan All the stories that you sold me Didn?t help me understand But I had to get it worked out Had nobody who could help So that in the end it turned out That I had to do it right myself Life?s a game likes and riches Dogs and bitches hunting fame It?s difficult to know which way to turn Lay the blame on the snitches, wicked witches fan the flame be careful what you turn to in case you burn queenie eye queenie eye who?s got the ball? I haven?t got it It isn?t in my pocket o-u-t spells out that?s out, without a shadow of a doubt you should be running it about hear the people shout hear the people shout play the game take your chances every dance is much the same it doesn?t matter which you?d rather choose we never blame circumstances if romance is seldom gain never pick a fight you?re gonna lose queenie eye queenie eye who?s got the ball? I haven?t got it It isn?t in my pocket o-u-t spells out that?s out, without a shadow of a doubt cause you?d be running it about hear the people shout hear the people shout it?s a long way to the finish when you?ve never been before I was nervous But I did it Now I?m going back for more Let?s all get up Hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey Hear the people shout Hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey queenie eye queenie eye who?s got the ball? I haven?t got it It isn?t in my pocket o-u-t spells out that?s out, without a shadow of a doubt you should be running it about hear the people shout hear the people shout queenie eye queenie eye who?s got the ball?
