    • RE: Song writing changes

      dcshark:

I think this comes from how he writes his songs. He has a melody and blocks out the lyrics by singing whatever fits the melody. Sometimes it works out great. like in Jet "And Jet I thought that the major was a little lady suffragette" What the heck is a "suffragette'? But it works in this song Dustbin lid doesn't Just like 'salamander' doesn't in Getting Closer. Thankfully he came up with better lyrics for 'Yesterday' 'scrambled eggs baby how I love your legs' It just shows he works hard on his lyrics when he feels he has a great melody to work with.

A suffragette was a member of the womens 'right to vote' movement in the UK about 100 years ago or more. They were a bit vociferous and set in their ways. I agree with the 'dustbin lid' lyric - it stood out when I first heard it. I believe it is cockney rhyming slang for 'kid'. I guess the syllables in dustbin lid fitted better than kid but it is still poor.

    • RE: Questions about "Abbey Road" album

      JoeySmith:

"Her Majesty" ending came about quite by accident. It was supposed to be part of the side 2 medley. Paul decided against it after listening to the playback & ordered it cut out. Some of the engineering assistants were unaware of this & were trained never to throw stuff out. So, they just added it to the end of the tape. That's why the song starts on the wrong note. When Paul heard it, he said to leave it on the album. By that time, they didnt have time to add the song title to the album cover, so it was probably rock's 1st "secret" song.

Yes, the crashing first note of Her Majesty is actually off the end of Mean Mr Mustard.

    • RE: It's The Singing That Makes RAM Paul's Best Album

On a more general note I have always thought that one of the beauties of Macca songs is that he uses his voice to add depth, interest and colour to his musical canvas. Almost like his voice is an additional musical instrument. Many of the greats do this as well of course. Having written and recorded hundreds of songs I guess it is an on-going challenge for him to sound different as often as possible. He achieves this to huge success but sometimes misses the mark. Monkberry Moon delight is, as stated, a good example. The song is great but the vocals towards the end detracts from the song. Another example is the fabulous Wildlife track that descends to mediocrity at the end.

    • New - Musicians

I read a lot about the producers involved with the New album but has anyone got information about who plays on the album? Is it all Macca, does he use his touring band or are others involved?

    • RE: Post Back to the Egg Period Question

Wings did 4 nights at the Royal Court in Liverpool to start his tour in November 1979. If I remember rightly the last one was a free concert for school kids and family and friends. I remember the queue for tickets seemed miles long. Apparently the Royal Court was struggling to keep open and he performed there as a bit of a favour. Presumably this was the tour that would have taken him to Japan. I think the culmination of the tour (the Japan drug bust) provided a natural break and allowed him the opportunity to disband Wings at that time. This would have been something that he was contemplating in any case. Wings was a performing band and without touring there was no need for the band. He didn't subsequently tour for many years after 1980 so there was no purpose in keeping the band. The death of John Lennon would have influenced his decision as well. Lennon's death must have been a significant event in McCartney's life and his and his family's security / well being would have been a consideration to stop touring.

    • What is this track?

I heard a track on Paul McCartney Radio earlier today. There was no information as to what the track was and I'm wondering if anyone can help. It sounded as if it may have come off his Fireman albums as it was a bit 'ambient'. The only discernible vocals were the spoken words 'I sense the situation' which were repeated over and over. It had an African vibe to it, or at least I thught so. It was very infectious and I've still got the beat running through my head. Thanks
