RE: Paul's new album and promotion
Bruce M.:
wingsoverkc:
No Kestrel, New is not a much better album than Memory Almost Full. And the math sort of proves it. 636 to 219!
While popularity absolutely does not equal artistic greatness, MAF runs circles around New in terms of quality. Not even close.

RE: PMS (Pre-McCartney Syndrome)
LadyLeslie:
Thanks, Denise! Appreciated your kind words very much
I will enjoy the experience, and hopefully will have so much fun, I won't get a chance to faint!
Will be sure and write a full report later
It's wonderful you were able to experience seeing Paul and Linda in concert in 1993, and have seen him a few other times. Hopefully you'll be able to see him again in the not too distant future
Yes, I'd like to see him on a different tour next time. Saw him last year in Grand Rapids on One on One. Still very grateful to have seen Linda on her last tour. She had awesome energy onstage. Was a pretty big fan of hers outside of Paul due to her cookbooks and animal advocacy.

RE: PMS (Pre-McCartney Syndrome)
LOL! That is awesome, LadyLeslie. I know the feeling well. My first McCartney concert was in 1993 and the anticipation was incredible. I've seen him 3 more times since 2011 and I may have been older but the buildup is still there. Enjoy the experience (like I need to say that
) and have fun. I'll be envying you since I'm sitting this year out.

RE: What Beatles Item did you last buy?
I bought the People Magazine special issue for Sgt Pepper. Also bought the book Dreaming the Beatles by Rob Sheffield but am saving it for my vacation next week. And from Amazon UK I ordered Visualizing the Beatles by John Pring and Rob Thomas but it probably won't arrive before I leave on vacation. Very excited about that book. The authors created infographics detailing facts and figures from the Beatles' career and the excerpts I've seen are very cool.

RE: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
love2travel:
Just saw it and it went so quickly. Didn't hear the joke!
He did look really good!!! What was the bit at the end after all the credits, was that Jack Sparrow?
SPOILER WARNING It was Davy Jones coming into the bedroom at the end before Will wakes up but the barnacle on the floor suggests he was really there and still under the curse.

RE: Beatles songs ranked
B J Conlee:
Just for the hell of it, I googled "the Beatles - Ranking all their songs". Looking through the articles I found one that despite the ridiculous concept I really liked. The blog was called...Beatles from Worst to First by Charles Olney. Mr. Olney surprisingly is a Professor of Constitutional Law. What I liked most about the writer was his comments on almost every song. Also, you couldn't tell if he was biased towards John or Paul. And he liked both George and Ringo a lot too. As I said, the concept is crazy given the "subjective" nature of music but at least this writer wasn't glaringly off on many of his choices. His top 50 for example fell in line generally with my opinion as a big time fan. I also got the feeling that he truly believes that John and Paul were both geniuses and equal (but different) in their talents and strengths. And when they truly collaborated to make each one's songs "better" the Beatles were at their best. For anyone who has the time, you might want to look up Mr. Olney's article. And yes, "Here There and Everywhere" did make the top 50!
Thanks for sharing that blog. I'm 2/3 of the way through his list and it seems so much more fair than the original one posted in this thread. Disliked the anti-Paul bias in that one.

RE: Detroit, MI-Little Caesars Arena-Oct. 1st/2nd 2017-CONFIRMED
Macca64:
So, realistically, what is the cheapest price for a ticket in the nosebleed? It's really hard for a family to afford to go see him these days. I realize he's a Beatle and seeing him is worth it and he is basically beating the scalpers at their own game. I remember seeing him at the Pontiac Silverdome in the Off The Ground tour. I was able to get fifth row for $59 I believe. Back then they called it "Golden Circle". I know a lot of scalpers would get these seats and easily sell them for a $1000 or more. I actually camped out all night in the winter to get those tickets. I'm hoping to get some seats for the second show at an affordable price.
The cheapest tickets available are $59.50. Good luck tomorrow! I saw Paul at the Off the Ground show as well and paid $35 to be up on the side. It was a great show. Saw the One on One tour last fall in Grand Rapids and it's very good too.

RE: Detroit, MI-Little Caesars Arena-Oct. 1st/2nd 2017-CONFIRMED
MetalGod:
Bueller.... Bueller.... For a show that basically sold out in the pre-sale....only 4 of us on this forum are going? I suppose there is not much to say with a few months ahead of us. I hope Paul's new album drops this summer and we'll get some new (not NEW but new) album tracks in the set list.
I couldn't afford tickets this year. Saw him last year in Grand Rapids and 2015 in Detroit so I'm OK with it. Trying to balance the family budget. Hoping he comes through this way again when I can afford the ticket price. Hope to hear great things from you here on the forum after the show. Paul is definitely the best performer I've seen in 37 years of concert experience.

RE: Flaming Pie has aged very well - 20 year anniversary
wingsoverkc:
Well, I LOVE the 'loudness' of MAF. After the organic, slightly boring Chaos and Creation, I was ready to rock! And I LOVE, absolutely LOVE Nod Your Head. It's silly, it's loud, and it rocks!!! Always considered MAF the second best Wings album.
Not as big of a fan of Nod Your Head as you seem to be, but I have to agree that MAF is a welcome change from Chaos. Much too subdued an album for my taste. And MAF definitely has a Wings vibe, especially on Only Mama Knows.

Nobody else seems to be around, so I'll just tell you. John is not wearing his wirerim glasses and Paul's OPP patch has been removed.
Thanks. I noticed the missing glasses but couldn't for the life of me figure out the other thing.

RE: My Three Favorite Albums By Paul
LadyLeslie:
It would be too difficult to choose just three... my favorite music of his is whatever I happen to be listening to at the time
I like them all.
That's sort of how I feel. My 13-year-old daughter is on a Wings kick so that is going pretty much non-stop right now since it's spring break here.

RE: My Three Favorite Albums By Paul
Not including Wings, my favorite three (currently): 1. Memory Almost Full 2. Flaming Pie 3. Run Devil Run Those are in no particular order. They seem to be what I find myself listening to the most.

RE: The Original Paul McCartney Picture Thread
Love all of them. Thanks oobu! I agree that the shaggy look suited him. My first McCartney show was the 93 tour and these pictures bring it all back.
