Almost all of the Macca preshow music (covers excepted) has been released in one form or another. I heard some Twin Freaks stuff (eg Darkroom remix), some 80's extended mixes (eg Say Say Say, Press), some of the rare remixes done over the past 10 years for projects such as Wingspan etc (Silly Love Songs, Goodnight Tonight, Coming Up, Temporary Secretary) and some standard takes of lesser known stuff such as Secret Friend. The only Macca stuff that I hadn't heard before were the clips of a remix of Getting Better and a remix of the Anthology version of Obladi Oblada. Chris

it was great that everyone stood in our section wasnt it . it can ruin a gig when you are forced to sit!
I don't mind standing in the slightest, but it doesn't suit everyone. I saw plenty of annoyed folk in AA7 that wouldn't share your sentiment. Chris

I just want to add to all the posts about what a great gig it was - me, my wife and my 7-year-old daughter all agreed that it was absolutely amazing! It was the sixth time I've seen him and definitely the best. We were in Block AA7, in the centre of row N and had a great view, right in front of Paul, 14 rows back. Everyone in our block stood for the entire concert - I was worried that my daughter wouldn't be able to see, but we lifted her up for most of it (my arms were tired the next day!!!) and she stood on her seat for a while, so she got a great view for the whole thing. I loved all the Wings stuff that I hadn't heard him do before, like Rockshow, 1985, Mrs Vandebilt and of course Mull of Kintyre, plus there were a few Beatles ones that I hadn't seen him play, such as Obladi Oblada, I've Got A Feeling and Day Tripper. And the two Electric Argument songs are really good as well. All in all, a fantastic set! I'm enjoying reading everyone's reviews and seeing the pics and the videos - keep 'em coming!! And someone said that they held their Paul cushion up and it was on the big screen - well I saw that on the screens loads of times and it was there for ages at the end of Hey Jude. Well done to you!!!! The whole vibe before, during and after the show was reall good-natured. There was a long queue for trains but it was all very orderly. Our train back into Glasgow broke down for a while and someone started singing (very badly!) some random Beatles tunes, and everyone joined in. It was a great atmosphere. We ended up singing all the way back to Glasgow and the bad singer got several well-earned rounds of applause! An absolutely brilliant concert and a lovely couple of days in Glasgow with lots of sunshine - couldn't have asked for any more!
Glad you all enjoyed the show. I saw you and your wife and daughter. We were a couple of rows back but right behind you. We were jealous at how petite your daughter was and how easy you were holding her up as opposed to how we were struggling with our big lump of a son!! Amazing to think there was only a year between them!! Needless to say though despite everything, he had a great time and couldn't wait to take his ticket into school yesterday to show off to his teacher and friends. Chris

Just digesting the gig after a very tired day yesterday back at work. Got there nice and early. Great that the weather was so good. Brilliant to see the place buzzing with Macca/Beatles fans. There were 3 guys in Sgt Pepper outfits belting out Beatles songs. (My 8 year old son in all his deadpan glory said 'There's one missing!'. There was also a busking bagpipers doing the hokey cokey and dancing about. Hilarious!! As a supprt, Sharleen was actually very good. I was pleasantly surprised. Her singing is tremendous. Glad to see she mixed her Texas stuff along with her recent stuff. I think there was only one song I didn't recognise. Paul's preshow video was a bit of a letdown. Thought it could've been a lot better. The main show however was fantastic. Walking back to my car, everyone I heard talking was raving about how good it was. It was great to hear some of the 'lesser known' tunes such as Letting Go, Mrs Vandebilt, Sing The Changes etc, but of course the classics are what makes it for the casual fan and though I don't consider myself one of those, my wife and son certainly are so it was good that even they knew 'most' of the songs. I was also impressed by how tight a unit the band are. They seemed to be having a great time up there esp Abe. Just watching them all goof about was entertaining in itself. Very start of the gig was a bit cringeworthy. I know Paul finds it hard to adlib at gigs and most of his stories are well scripted. So when we had the dead guitar situation he looked a bit like a rabbit caught in headlights for those very long couple of minutes. Thankfully once this was fixed it was business as usual. On the whole the playing was impeccable. Only noticed a couple of bum notes (Once by Paul during Blackbird, then I think maybe Wix during Hey Jude). It was great to see him doing Mull Of Kintyre again. It sounded so much better that the last time he played it in Glasgow when I struggled to hear the bagpipes over the band. Was it my imagination or was the whole gig on the quiet side? Being close to the front I was expecting to get blown away by the sound but my ears weren't even ringing at the end of the gig..... Watching some of the videos back Paul's voice sounds quite rough (eg Live and Let Die). TBH This is why I find it hard to listen to any of his recent live albums. That aside, when you're at the gig it's somehow not as noticable. (Maybe it's all the folk round about you singing!!). I got a programme. I thought £10 was very reasonable. Anybody spot the mistake about Glasgow in it. (I don't recall him ever playing the Barrowlands) We were in row R of AA7. My son who's a tall 8 had a real struggle seeing the gig. He was too small to see behind everyone, but when we stood him up on his chair he was too tall and blocked the view of the folk behind us. In the end my wife and I had to take turns perching him precariously on the seats in front of us and leaning him back onto us so he was the same height as a normal adult. By the end of the gig the two of us were knackered. To be honest I didn't see the point of folk getting up off their seats to just stand (ie not dancing). There were A LOT of folk with kids/older people round about us who had paid good money for 'good' seating tickets who weren't at all happy with the situation. A kid just along from us was arguing with his folks that he wanted to go home as watching the screens was no better than watching tv. Anyway, that's my take on things. Hope everyone enjoyed the night. Hopefully Paul will be back in Glasgow again. Got a funny feeling this will be the last time though. Chris

If anyone's still looking for good tickets, TicketSoup has just released more tickets in the very front pitch blocks. I bet these have been reserved for hot sound packages or similar that haven't sold, so have just been put on general sale. Anyway, just now I can see 10+ tickets in the 10th row (J) of the very front middle block AA7, and a pair of tickets in the 3rd row (C) of AA8. Probably not be there for long though!! Chris

bottle of irn bru
What's that? Beer?
Not quite! Irn-bru is Scotland's locally produced fizzy juice. We are one of the few places where Coca Cola is not the top seller!! It's got a lot of sugar in it though. I personally find that drinking this all night instead of beer still makes you feel strangely intoxicated.....probably sugar rush! Chris

I'm torn over the sitting/standing debate. I love standing gigs and don't think twice about squeezing my way to the front and jumping about like a looney. Trouble is now I've got an 8 year old boy who wants to see Macca. Before we knew what the standing/seating arrangements were going to be I was deliberating 'Do my wife and I get standing tickets and REALLY enjoy ourselves, or do we get seating tickets to let our boy see the concert'. Kids under 14 aren't allowed in the standing section at Hampden concerts. When the concert was announced as all seating I said 'fair enough, he's going' and got 3 tickets in row R of AA7 on the pitch. Trouble is though, I don't know how high the stage is going to be. If everybody starts standing will my boy be able to see anything? Will he have to resort to perching on a chair in his tiptoes for 2 hours and end up having a miserable time? Not really fair is it? Chris

Texas were OK in their formative years 20 years back. Got a bit poppy later on though to sustain their chart presence. I think MOR is a good term for them overall. I've not heard a lot of Sharleen's recent solo stuff, but again, what I have heard is MOR. She has a good homegrown following though, so it might sell a few more tickets to those folk who were swithering whether to go or not. I'll certainly be there to see her and hope she sings some Texas tunes. Chris

Beatles legend lines up Scots kids and Sharleen Spiteri for Hampden gig Jun 13 2010 Exclusive by Mike Merritt, Sunday Mail PAUL McCARTNEY has lined up a secret weapon for his first Scottish gig in 20 years - a school pipe band. The superstar ex-Beatle has enlisted members of Loretto Pipe Band to back him on smash-hit Mull of Kintyre at Hampden Park next Sunday. It's the only venue where the song will be played during his British tour. We can also reveal the rocker has recruited Sharleen Spiteri to join him on the bill. The private boarding school's band will provide 18 musicians - 15 pipers and three drummers. They'll be joined by three pipers and three drummers from East Lothian Pipes and Drums Trust. Simon Lowe, the head of expressive arts at the school in Musselburgh, East Lothian, said "We are jumping up and down over this. "We are used to playing before big crowds but nothing like this. "When we were offered the gig we jumped at the chance. I'm sure the band will be taking their autograph books with them." A spokesman for Sir Paul, 67, said "It's great to be using a young Scottish band. It should be a truly great night and an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives." Sir Paul recorded Mull of Kintyre in 1977 with the Campbeltown Pipe Band on Kintyre. The song was the first to sell more than two million copies in the UK and it stayed at No. 1 for nine weeks. Backing Macca is also a dream come true for Sharleen, who has revealed she learned her craft by singing Beatles' hits as a child. The 42-year-old said "My mum and dad always played his records at home. I actually learned how to do harmonies by singing along to hits such as Ticket To Ride, Help and Can't Buy Me Love." Sharleen is a close pal of Macca's daughters Mary and Stella and she will attend the superstar's 68th birthday party in London just 48 hours before the Hampden gig. The Glasgow date is Macca's first in Scotland since he sold out the SECC in 1990. He'll perform a string of classics including A Day In The Life, Back In The USSR and All My Loving. He added "It's always good to get back to Scotland because I've got a special affection for the wee place. I've never done Hampden before and it's legendary."
