I was there last night, and the show was fantastic. He was in great form, and it was really cool being with my sister who had never seen a show. She doesn't know his stories, so it was neat to see her reactions to them, and they hit spot on with people who have no clue. I was honestly disappointed in the crowd, though. The people around me sat for the entire concert, only standing for the beginning, the end, and the John and George tributes. They didn't even dance to 1985. How do you sit for that song? The crowd was deafening at the encores, though. One woman said, "He never comes back out twice!" Ha! So clearly, people don't get tired of the same old stories/setlist because most people have never heard them before or don't remember them. I was disappointed that people took their beer breaks for the new songs like My Valentine and Everybody Out There. It must be discouraging to see the crowd disperse when breaking out the new stuff. My sister loves My Valentine and was very glad he sang it and very surprised when people didn't seem to respond to it. He sang it very well. Maybe I'm Amazed was great, too. I always get kinda nervous when he breaks out the the high songs, but he did excellent. Here Today was also better than the last time I heard it. His voice was clear, no breaks. It hit the spot. Fave songs of the evening: Let Me Roll It (always my fave), Live and Let Die, All Together Now, Helter Skelter, and the Medley. They're always so much fun! I love singing along to All Together Now!

RE: New Orleans/Louisville/Albany/Pittsburgh - Pre-sale Thread
Just got 2 for NOLA, but not in the spot that I wanted. I wanted the $257 tickets, but they kept saying unavailable. So I got the $160. Happy I got the tickets, but I wish I could have gotten the better seats.

Looks like Ticketmaster only has VIP tix on sale tomorrow, 4/9. Is this correct? Any one know how much the VIP tix cost? I guess if one goes thru Paul's site tomorrow it will take one to CrowdSurge and one can buy regular tix tomorrow.
They have other prices listed on TM. I don't even see the VIP package there.

^^^What side were you on? The left pit was super organized, the security did a really good job of kicking out all of the people who tried to cut in line and even divided us up into groups of 200 to make sure no one was pushed or trampled while going into the pit. They really did an A+ job, totally the opposite of what I've seen at most festivals (and that includes Roo two years ago).
I didn't even know there was a left pit! We were on the right. None of that happened on the right side, although they did section us off according to a guy who was holding up a sign. But it was still very uncomfortable because we had to stand so tightly packed for the entire Wilco set to maintain our positions in line. The Safety people were told when there were line cutters, but claimed they couldn't do anything.

This was hands down one of the best Macca shows I've seen. I don't think I'll ever experience crowd energy like that in the U.S. again. I overheard people raving about the show for the rest of the weekend! Not to mention, I've had several friends come to me and admit they were wrong all these years and after seeing him they totally understand why I love him so much! Awesome feeling! Paul seemed really happy to see some regulars in the crowd, too! Thanks Rick G for the amazing pictures...as always
A great buzz around his Bonnaroo appearance. Great to see. Glowing reviews in the rags, and a great, great reception from the crowd.
No doubt! Here's a little before and after from Rick's pictures...to show just how exciting this show was Pre-show in the 2nd row! http://www.flickr.com/photos/41674530@N02/9058935555/in/set-72157634177991372 Aaaaand celebrating afterwards: http://www.flickr.com/photos/41674530@N02/9061414044/in/set-72157634177991372 http://www.flickr.com/photos/41674530@N02/9059170463/in/set-72157634177991372 The energy was insane! I still can't get over it!!!
Amazing! Well done to you, Rick and Keri getting second row. I know how you manage to do it for regularly ticketed shows, but it's quite something to be able to persevere in the midst of a mob and get so close for a GA gig! How did you do it? Was it a stampede?
My mom and I got there incredibly early, as soon as they opened the field a bit after noon. We eventually found the pit line after it had already formed because we didn't know there was one. We got in line at about 2:00 p.m. The biggest frustration was line cutters and having to pee and eat. It didn't get that bad until closer til the show started when people started getting antsy for a spot. We stood stock still, completely packed in. We were close to the last spot guaranteed for a spot in the pit, so it was a little nerve-wracking, thinking our hard work would be for naught. When they opened the gates, it was like a flood hitting us in the back, pushing us forward until we spilled onto the field. Then people scrambled to get a space close to the stage. We were about 10 rows deep, but it still a spectacular view. It was a HARD wait, I won't lie. But it was so, so worth it.

It was oddly touching.
Loved your report!
Thank you!

RE: Washington, DC, National's Park, July 12th 2013 - ARCHIVE
Hey, everyone! I just finished my McCartney week at Bonnaroo. The Paul/James part was awesome, and the rest of it was pretty cool, too. I stood in line for the pit for Paul all day long and was about center stage, 10 people deep. I was so close that it was amazing. However, I'm feeling in a bit of a post-concert depression. I want to experience a Paul concert where it is ONLY Paul, not a festival, because the rest of the festival sort of colors the experience a little. I see there are still tickets available for DC, and I love DC and Paul. However, Bonnaroo was freaking expensive, and a flight to DC plus tickets plus hotel will be expensive too. I'm trying to decide what to do. I have a feeling Paul will do a concert in England in December because he usually does. I thought about seeing that and making it a trek, but I'm in school so there's no guarantee. Advise me, Paul-concert experts. Help me decide what I should do!

This will be my first Paul McCartney experience and my first Bonnaroo experience. I am a little scared about the festival type concert though because I don't think it'll be the same as a regular concert. I'm afraid the general atmosphere won't be as good. Should I keep this ticket, or should I try for one of the Indianapolis tickets?

I'm so depressed that I can't go. Houston is manageable for me, but I have school. If he'd have waited one week, I could go because I'm out for Thanksgiving. I don't think I'll ever get to see him, and it makes me more sad than you could possibly imagine.
Why couldn't you miss a day from school? You can go to school every day but you can't go to a Paul show every day.
Unfortunately, missing one day of medical school is like missing one month of undergraduate, especially when there are things that are graded happening on that day. It's just not possible to skip.

im pretty sure 'susy' has been to see paul..infact im sure ive heard her talk of it. dont really get what you mean 'kedamal'.....not the slightest hint of a personal attack and very wrong of you to suggest so
I'm not trying to get into an argument or anything, but you did talk about her limited concert experiences like that makes her less of a fan... And you don't have to put my username in quotes, but in case you want to next time, it's "kedame."

I agree with Kedame that it gets "tiresome," to say the least, to read "criticism after criticism." To continually lament and harp on the fact that Paul is not exactly as he used to be in his glory days. That's ludicrous, and worse. He's only human, in fact I saw in the latest "US" mag a recent pic of him pushing his own luggage in the New York airport.
: come on susy, put a different record on.....if you are that sick of it why continue to 'comeback'with the same old tired tales?......we get it susy, you think paul is a wonderful example of humanity in every way, anyone who who dares to suggest otherwise is just evil and vindictive, especially on the poor mans own website blah blah blah. it might actually surprise you just how much these people [including me] really adore paul mccartney full stop......offering advice and career calls does not mean that we are any less fans than you..and infact judging by your own limited knowledge on many things and certainly your limited experiances in seeing him live and buying all his albums perhaps many of us are infact 'bigger fans ' than you?....perhaps.?
Look, I understand it can get tiring for you to keep reading the same things Susy says a lot, but it gets tiring for her, too. You don't have to resort to personal attacks by pointing out the fact that she hasn't been to see Paul. I haven't either, but I still know a great deal. You don't know Susy's financial situation or where she lives. I think it is insensitive of you to say some of the things you did. If you don't like some of the things Paul does, that's fine...but please don't hold it against those that enjoy most or all of his work, especially by calling them out on not having access to stuff you do have access to.
I don't see any personal attacks from Lazy at all. He is simply trying to let Susy see it from the other side. As nice as it is to stick up for somebody, Im sure Susy can handle herself knowing her track record for personal attacks.
Okay, maybe I was too forward with the "personal attack" term, but I still think bringing up her limited concert experiences and limited number of albums was still kind of low when you don't know the circumstances someone might be in. And don't you think lazy can speak for himself, as you say Susy can speak for herself? Bit of a double standard there, eh? He seems to have no problems speaking, I should say.

in the interest of fair play i have to add the maybe im amazed sounded every bit as bad as i remembered
so its a fact then, even back then when he was still singing great, pauls biggest problem was his own editing in a live context!Yes, that was truly awful.
OMG!
Sounds like someone's voice after they've been screaming...in parts there... wow interesting
Wow! I can't believe Paul's career and reputation weren't ruined after that performance!

I can agree with this sentiment. I think this is why the overt criticism (and nothing else) of present day Paul by older fans sort of gets to me. In the 70s, I'm sure you guys didn't like it when Beatle-crazed folks lamented for the Paul of old. Well, it's sort of the same way with me. This is the Paul I know. Let me enjoy him in peace.
The Beatles crazed fans are still there though. AND he caters to them with all the songs in his setlist. and you CAN enjoy him in peace...who is actually stopping you?
You know, not to sound like a broken record, but I'd be happy just to see Paul at all (which I haven't). I don't really give a crap what he plays when I get to see him, as long as I'm there. For those of you who have seen him a million times, I understand you want something new. But I bet the first time you saw Paul you just wanted him to sing whatever, and you were happy with it. I also bet there are those who would be severely disappointed to go to a Paul McCartney show (for maybe the first and only time) and not get to hear Hey Jude or Let it Be. And to explain that "in peace" statement: don't you ever just get tired of reading criticism after criticism? I understand that constructive criticism is healthy and helpful, but I do get tired of all the discussions about his setlist, hair, wobbly voice, etc. I do get it. Not everyone likes the way Paul does things in the present day...and that's okay. You might like him a different way or in a different time, but I like this Paul. I don't care about the hair or the setlist. I wish his voice was as strong as it once was, but I'll take the soft singing of KOTB and the televised performances as it's all I know. I would say think back to the era of Paul where you got interested. What criticisms were there of him then? Was it the bashing of RAM, the reinventing of history after John died? Wasn't it frustrating to read the bad stuff, even if there was a grain of truth in it? The best thing about some of you guys being fans is that you didn't have the internet, where anyone with a keyboard can let loose. You didn't have to put up with the comments about him not being what he used to be by the whole internet...and now you have thicker skin. But this is new to me.
well now you just let loose too didn't you?
Oooohhh...misunderstanding here! I didn't mean you guys. I meant in articles like the Daily Mail ones we are bombarded with all the time. ...walking away slowly to avoid the wrath... I'm not trying to be argumentative or mean. I am genuinely discussing the topic. Is all you got out of my response that I'm trying to start a fight? I'm really not. I thought it was a fairly well thought out post to describe my feelings.
