So I've seen Paul at least 30 times - and it seems I'm not a 'Verified Fan' - so what is???
A few more reflections on Paul McCartney at the O2. Irina and I went to both shows. On Saturday, we arrived at the O2 only to be told we were to be re-seated. It seems that there was equipment in the way of the seats we were supposed to have. To start with I was annoyed - but then was amazing to find we were moved to the front row to the side, overlooking the backstage area and the entrance to the dressing rooms! We could see everyone come and go. Celebs that were at the gig included Ant and Dec, and Dave Grohl, who for much of the concert, was standing only a few feet away from where we were sitting. All Paul's kids were there - and all his 8 grandkids! We kept on seeing Mary ande Stella going past us with the kids to the backstage area. There were sitting just a few rows behind us. When Paul sang Maybe I'm Amazed, the backdrop showed pictures of Mary and Stella as young children, including the famous one of Mary inside Paul's coat. When this was onscreen, Mary and Stella were each holding one of their kids, singing along with Paul. A very touching moment. When Paul played Band On The Run, Stella came down to where Dave Grohl was standing, and had a rather raunchy dance. I hope Stella's husband couldn't see what was going on :>) Stella was certainly the most animated of the Macca clan. Of course Nancy was there too, and seemed to be having a great time also. At one point she came down and posed with some of Paul's grandkids right in front of me. I had to take a photo. At the end of the gig, all Paul's family gathered near where we were sitting to cheer Paul off stage. Some of the grandkids had made personal signs which they held up when Paul were past them. Paul was delighted and moved - as was I do see it. Paul's voice was better than I expected. OK, it's not what it was 10 years ago, but I didn't expect it to be either. It stained on some songs, most notably Maybe I'm Amazed. I can only think he still sings it live for personal reasons, he dedicated it to Linda. It nearly ripped his voice to pieces. However for at 90% of the gig his voice was fine. It was the first time that the 'Out There' tour had been in the UK, and therefore we were hearing many songs he hadn't performed in the UK before. The big surprise song was 'Temporary Secretary' which he hadn't played live anywhere before. As usual, the Beatles songs got the best reaction from the crowd, but the newer songs were well received too - most notably 'Queenie Eye', which got lots of people dancing and joined in on the 'OUT spells out' section. A highlight of the first night was when Paul invited Dave Grohl on stage to join in with a blistering 'I Saw Her Standing There' The second night was good, but for us, didn't have the same magical moments as Saturday as our seats weren't so good. Paul did change the set slightly, adding 'Got to Get You Into My Life' and I'm Looking Through You. Overall, a wonderful weekend!
Please!! You've been 'Out There' around the world - but the tours hasn't come to the UK yet!
Photos I took of Paul and the band in Covent Garden last year. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10204038439334652&set=pcb.10204038460415179&type=1&theater https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10204038448534882&set=pcb.10204038460415179&type=1&theater https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10204038449934917&set=pcb.10204038460415179&type=1&theater https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10204038457975118&set=pcb.10204038460415179&type=1&theater
Let It Be Abbey Road! The Cast of Let It Be to Lead Beatles Fans across Abbey Road 45 years to the minute since the Beatles On 8th August 1969, four men walked across a zebra crossing in St John's Wood. Hardly an earth-shattering event, but since then millions of people have come to the very same crossing to imitate those four men. Of course the four men in question were the Beatles, and the crossing is in Abbey Road. The 'Fab Four' were posing for the photo that was to be used on their last album to be recorded. Abbey Road has never been the same since. Every day, fans from around the world come to the crossing to walk in the footsteps of their heroes and to see the studios where the Beatles recorded most of their songs. On 8th August 2014 Beatles fans will cross Abbey Road 45 years to the minute since the Beatles. At 11.35 am the cast of the West End hit show ?Let It Be? will lead fans across the famous Zebra crossing, dressed as the Beatles were exactly 45 years before. From around 11.20, they will also sing a few songs and lead a Beatles singalong. The event is organised by Richard Porter, a professional Beatles tour guide and owner of the Beatles Coffee Shop, which is at St John?s Wood underground station, the nearest to Abbey Road. Richard has been leading Beatles tours for 20 years and has crossed Abbey Road thousands of times. Richard say?s ?every hour of every day there are fans on the crossing ? but August 8th is going to be very special?.
