We had cheese and crackers and fruit before soundcheck and some pasta dishes, stuffed peppers, grilled tofu, a couscous salad and Tabbouleh for the actual dinner afterwards. Some liquor was included . . .some was not. There were also some non-alcoholic beverages readily available. I'm not a total veggie but I certainly didn't go hungry (altho I wasn't really there for the food!)

RE: Paul McCartney sign question
1ststatestereo:
I don't know how you could justify blocking several people's views just on the off chance that Paul might see your message. Why? Do you think you're telling him something he hasn't heard before? Think about the people behind you whose vision you are obstructing. Thanks
I did think about them which is why I held the sign up maybe 4-5 times during the entire 3-hour show and it was always for a few seconds in between songs IF he was looking in my direction. I'm only about 5 feet tall so I'm OVER sympathetic to having someone's view blocked. Thanks

I held up a sign at s/c in Lincoln . . .it was so dark and we were so far away, I doubt Paul could read it. I was 3rd row center for the show and held up 3 different signs . . .I know he read 2 of them. . .just not aloud
You can tell when he's reading your sign, and he's definitely still reading them, he just hasn't been commenting on them as much.
You really can. Last year I could see his eyes move towards the sign I was holding then I got a smile and nod.
Exactly! When he read my Meat Free Monday sign, I got a smile and a bit of a fist pump...and eye contact

RE: Minneapolis, MN, Target Field, August 2, 2014 - ARCHIVE
My husband ran into a young man (20-something) that had been to the show in Minneapolis Saturday night (hubby was wearing a Paul t-shirt!) The "youngster" said the show was fabulous (it was his first time) and he was still mentally processing it and couldn't really put into words what he saw except this: "I CAN'T BELIEVE I JUST SAW A BEATLE!" That's my reaction . . . Every.Time.

RE: How does someone get dead-center front row seats?
RMartinez:
But what kind of thinking is that? Wouldn't a fan who BUYS a front row ticket be excited, and couldn't Paul feed off of that person's energy? "We better keep some front row seats empty so we can fill them up with excited fans to make sure Paul has a groovy crowd to play to!" WHAT???? How about sell tickets to the show and let fans buy them and enjoy the concert?
I'd be ecstatic if I knew I'd just BOUGHT front row/center (even moreso if it didn't quite cost me $2000!)

They just want to fill the seats near the front if somebody doesn't show. I was moved from a $50.00 upper tier seat to a $250.00 8th row center seat with about 5 others to fill the row at Elton John's Million Dollar Piano concert in 2012. It was a total surprise!
Who wouldn't show up if they got front row tickets? I mean, unless you got into a car crash on the way over to the stadium...
LOL! I tried getting primo seats for the KC show in 2010 in the hours leading up to the show . . .called and stopped at the box office several times in the afternoon and evening . . .never found anything that was better than what I already had in my hands. I'd heard the stories of great stuff dropping just hours before showtime . . .oh well

You get water bottles and backpacks in the US, here we get cheaper tote bags and good t-shirts. I suppose the free merchandise is different in each country, so all in all it's still good stuff. I can't complain, as the food and drinks are good and the soundcheck is a unique experience.
Very unique but I wish we were a bit closer for it.
Me, too . . .so we could at least 2: at Paul and he'd see us

"Giving" meaning if you are willing to buy it at the merch stand for $40 USD in addition to paying for the VIP ticket.
Really? I got a "free" t-shirt (plus other stuff) at every soundcheck I attended. And when it was too big, I went to the merch table and they exchanged it for a smaller one at no cost.
Nope, no t-shirts included for us last week. We got the backpack, tour book and a water bottle, plus the laminate we wore. Some soundchecks got guitar picks but the one I attended did not. We got to shop at a merch stand before the doors opened but we still had to pay the same prices as everyone else. We were treated to plenty of veggie food (appetizers and a full buffet and some complimentary beverages including wine and maybe beer). I'm not complaining (really!). . .I paid the price to see Paul in soundcheck and get a great seat and I DID (including a shirt would have been really cool tho!)

It would be nice to have a soundcheck t-shirt unavailable anywhere else, but at least they are giving us one that mentions (on the back) the city and date of the concert we were at.
"Giving" meaning if you are willing to buy it at the merch stand for $40 USD in addition to paying for the VIP ticket. I didn't buy it . . . a black men's t-shirt isn't worth $40 to me. This is the first time I've not purchased a shirt at a Paul concert . . .I just didn't see anything I "loved" for $40-$65 I purchased a couple of trinkets instead

I'm sure we would all like to hear a few different songs in sound check. But, I'm thinking that Paul always does Lady Madonna because it is a pretty good warm-up for him on the piano. Also, I'm sure that specific songs are played to test out each guitar he will be using in the show. After all, it is a rehearsal, sort of, right??
Actually I don't think he always does Lady Madonna . . .seems like there was another setlist from last week that he did something else on that piano. However, you are correct. . .soundcheckers are told that he will do songs that will use each instrument he'll use in the show . . . Which brings me to something else I thought about . . .it would be really cool if one of the swag items was a t-shirt that had something about being at soundcheck (Paul does call the group "soundcheckers"!!) Personally a shirt would have been more useful to me than a backpack (even tho the backpack is a very good one and I'll keep mine thanks!). Also, the pick thing . . .we all paid the same cost(s) to be in there . . .why only picks at the first and last shows? I still had a fab time at soundcheck . . .don't regret spending the $$ even a tiny bit
I LOVE the idea of a soundcheckers t shirt ! & yes I still want a guitar pick !
soundcheckers T shirt, Great idea!
OK so when/if this happens . . .please tell Paul's people it was MY suggestion . . .that's Seuss w/ a capital S! I'd be happy to give them my real name/address so I can get mine! Seriously . . .I'm pretty sure a t-shirt was part of the swag for soundcheck at the Italy show a while back so it has happened!

. . .both went into Outbox.
And they will stay there until the recipient will pick them up. Only then will they go to your Sentbox.
Ah . . OK . . .I guess they were picked up quickly last week! Thx for the quick response

PM's
I just tried to send a PM to another board member. The msg went into my Outbox rather than Sentbox . . .does that mean it's in a holding pattern waiting to be sent? Was able to send PM's last week thru the site w/ no problems. I've tried twice . . .first responding to a previous PM sent to me and then starting an entirely new PM . . .both went into Outbox. Thanks!

I'd still like to see that list from KC. There must be an entire soundcheck setlist somewhere.
Same here because I am not believing Paul did Monkberry Moon Delight. I do want my guitar pick. For the money I paid, it is the least they could do! Don't they know we communicate with each other?
Everything else was the same so I don't get why there were no picks . . .Ob-la di, Ob-la da I guess!

RE: Sound Check
Oh - oops - must have read an incomplete soundcheck setlist somewhere then. Still don't get the pick thing . . .I'd be if I ever get to do another soundcheck . . .so it was likely my only chance to get one . . .life goes on!

Sadly it's not as good as it used to be. Soundchecks are way too large now and are much shorter. In the 90's it was almost 90 minutes and in the late 2000's (2009) and some time after it around 20-24 songs. Attendance in late 2000's was anywhere from 15-40. Now there are almost 200 nightly and only13 songs. The veggie dinners generally suck but every once in awhile you get a good one. Still fun but has definitely lost some of the luster
Got a question for you and others who have attended sound checks. Do you want to hear songs that you know and probably in the concert set list or would you rather hear more obscure songs?
In Lincoln, Shelly told us the songs that would be played in soundcheck would not be in the regular show. However, they did Lady Madonna in both. Personally, I'd rather hear songs that aren't going to be in the show . . .rare or otherwise

It sounds like you lucky ones in KC got a great show! I think even for us fans, die hard fans that we are, it's just so damn impressive and awe inspiring seeing Paul perform at the level that he does. This band is great! Both the reviews in the Lincoln and Kansas City paper were rave affairs. Paul always delivers!
Dammit Brady . . .you're 2 shows ahead of me!

I would have been disappointed to not hear "Hi Hi Hi" I was especially excited to see that back on the setlist as I've never seen it live. I don't live in KC, so even tho that song is a great one, it doesn't have any special meaning for me.
