ok, listened to it a couple of times...not really thrilled, from that similar style I preferred "Fine Line", the "horns" are a nice touch though. George and John's "granny" music, eh? The biggest problem of course is his voice, so hoarse, a tad painful to hear...odd they couldn't make it sound better in the studio? Well I guess they didn't cheat at least.

RE: Paul's New Album-- "New"-- CONFIRMED
So the news has dropped, never been so excited to read a "What's New With Paul McCartney?" email So "NEW", eh ? Reminds me of the "Press to Play" concept, hopefully the album will be better! Can't wait to hear the song now, the email linked to iTunes but I can't find anything there, hopefully it will make it to YouTube soon. OK, it's here :

RE: Politics of Love - McCartney/Peter Gabriel collaboration
Interesting...typical Paul though, wanting to work with the guy who's hot (Gabriel was on the "So" high).

RE: Politics of Love - McCartney/Peter Gabriel collaboration
JoeySmith:
Macca & Peter Gabriel wrote a great tune together in 1986 called Politics of Love. Gabriel even commented on how melodic it was. When will it be released?!?
Er...who says it was "great"? If it had been that good it would have been released surely! Macca also wrote a "song" with Keith Richards in 2005, wonder what happened to that one

RE: Paul's upcoming album review they say its HOT!
Talking of which I remember him saying how happy he was with the Starbucks music company (Hear Music ?) for the release if MAF, how they had great ideas (not sure what they did apart from selling the CD in Starbucks Cafes ?) as opposed to EMI having endless meetings and not doing much (he blamed them for Chaos' commercial failure)...well MAF didn't really go anywhere and Hear Music didn't last "more than a lunchtime"

RE: Paul's upcoming album review they say its HOT!
I'd imagine the 50+ songs include the 20 tracks he recorded with Geoff Emerick in 2009 that only produced one released track so far...a pretty forgettable tune (can't remember the title actually) for a De Niro movie. As usual Macca was all excited about being involved with another star and played it live in late 2009 to polite applause...

RE: Paul's upcoming album review they say its HOT!
Ok, that makes more sense, one can only hope that he'd describe his latest stuff is among his favorites (that's an improvement over P2P where he was having a hard time defending it) doesn't mean much as to the actual "quality" though. Reminds of when the Stones released "A Bigger Bang" and Keith was asked what his favorite song was and he replied "This Place is Empty" and probably noticing the interviewer's surprise he corrected himself and said "oh you mean Stones' song, that would be Gimme Shelter". These guys ain't dumb, they know better than we do how their current material stacks up... Having said that I've always enjoyed, and been excited, by new Macca releases since I've been able to wait for them, i.e. since Tug of War

Wow...the hyping is getting out of hand, so he's somehow managed to get back to the magic of 65/68 ?!

Sounds too good to be true but who knows...

RE: Paul's upcoming album review they say its HOT!
Got another "useless" "What's that you're doing" newsletter today with of course ZERO info about the new album. I do miss the good old days of "Beatles Magazine" !

RE: Paul's upcoming album review they say its HOT!
Well I hope I'm wrong but these endless delays and apparent lack of interest by Macca himself (can't contain himself after playing with three guys from Seattle no one would recognize in the street...don't get me wrong I like Grohl/Foo Fighters but come on...) remind me of the "Press to Play" situation and that's not a very good thing!

RE: Paul's upcoming album review they say its HOT!
Rather OT here, but watching "Rock Show" the other day at the theatre it was quite amazing to see Paul take a back seat to Denny and Jimmy for a few numbers and everyone seemed fine with it, both Paul and the audience. Pretty unimaginable these days...Apparently he had Nirvana on stage for 5 numbers last night...let's see if we have a thread about that. Well about Nirvana, an album recorded "live" with these guys would/will be interesting, possibly more than the upcoming album that's been tweaked in the studio for years...

The earlier the better, that album is long overdue...

RE: Rockshow in Theatres
Just caught the movie premiere in Paris tonight and it was great! Thid row in a packed room (sold out), full 5.1, really loud...actually after 5 o 6 songs it almost felt like a real show, with people clapping and singing, it was pretty eerie! What struck me is that it really was a "band" with Paul happy to take the backseat at times. Different times of course... Sad to think that Linda and Jimmy have passed on and that Paul doesn't have any room for Denny in his life anymore, yeah I know about The Sun interviews, but that was thirty years ago, and they shared so much during all these years...

RE: Wings Over America & Rock Show DVD Reissue CONFIRMED
Looking forward to the Blu Ray version, it's sure to beat the socks off of anything that's available out there, official or not!

RE: Paul McCartney 2013 Rumours
I think he needs to shuffle the band a bit, this show has become stale...

RE: Paul McCartney 2013 Rumours
Fat chance, but any rumours of Paul changing the line-up of his touring band? Great band, but I think he's got all the mileage he could out of it...it's just an auto-pilot thing at this point.

RE: Paul back w/Ronson for new album news
Yeah let's hope that new one isn't brickwalled to death like MAF, tracks like "See your Sunshine" are way too overloaded for their own good, but is that a producing or mastering issue?... With WOA in the...wings and rumours of dates in Europe in June, it's unlikely the new studio album will be out before the fall. No hurry at this point I guess but there was even less of a hurry for WOA of course, especially since we're not getting any unknown songs this time.

RE: A new version of "Heart Of The Country" by Paul
You're telling me...I was about 1 meter away from him for an hour last October at their club show at the Trabendo in Paris and he looked like he was 35! If he applies the same discipline to his vocal chords than to his spooky body, yeah that would go some ways to explain it! Still, I find Paul's voice to be unusually "hoarse", especially when he talks. Surely he must have had that looked into...well I guess that as long as it doesn't prevent him from playing live there can't be anything serious.
