Triplets Love Paul:
Tickets arrived today!
! Hey, have the Triplets picked out what they are going to wear? I will be happy to read your postings to keep us updated TLP!
-
gnome:
did you have expedited shipping? I'm not that far out of the city and have not gotten mine yet.
Hi, gnome! No, standard mail - I was absolutely stunned! Plain white envelope from the David H. Koch Theater. I have purchased tickets for the New York City Ballet every year, so already established on their mailing list - perhaps this makes a difference??? Were you previously established on the New York City Ballet mailing list prior to purchasing these tickets?

Hi, kittay! Thanks so much for asking - perfect timing with your question! I took the girls out today to have their first look at dresses. Now twelve years-old, I assumed the perfect dress decision would take several outings, but as luck would have it, the seeds do not fall far from the tree! My girls are low maintenance - they saw not one, but three dresses that they liked, tried them on, and decided that they need look no further! Shoes are on tomorrow's list! My son will be wearing his favorite......a tux! I cannot believe how excited the triplets are to attended this ballet!!! My daughter, Audrey aspires to be a fashion designer. As Stella has designed the costumes for this ballet, this event is doubly exciting for her - she cannot wait to see the costumes that Stella has created! As you can imagine, in our home, the sun rises and sets through the name McCartney!!! I hope we have quite a few members from the board attending. I believe this will be a very special event!

Hi Triplets, Tickets have arrived! I found this info on the website about the program for the evening. Apparently Ballanchine's Union Jack, a tribute to Britain will also be part of the program. The confusing thing is on the website the listing for Ocean's Kingdom says it starts at 7:30, but the run time information says that is is going to start at 7:00. This could be a problem for me and others trying to get into the city on time after work for this. I'll probably end up phoning them the week before to confirm the time. Here's the run time info from the NYC Ballet website: Thursday September 22, 2011 at 7 PM NYCB Fall Gala Ocean's Kingdom 54 min. 7:05 PM to 7:59 PM intermission 20 min. 7:59 to 8:19 PM Union Jack 57 min. 8:19 to 9: 16 PM I wonder if Paul will leave at intermission?

Thanks so much for posting the run times, gnome - very thoughtful! So happy to learn that you have received your tickets!!! I have received the same information. The information I received expressed that Martins was so excited to be working with Paul that he had decided to include Union Jack (one day earlier than the scheduled performance) in the program as a tribute to Paul. If Union Jack is being included in the program as a special tribute to Paul, I doubt that Paul would leave during the intermission (other than to take a break). I would imagine that Martins would be expecting Paul to be in attendance for the special tribute. Just a guess on my part, but I am thinking that some sort of announcement will be made that we are receiving the additional performance of Union Jack in honor of Paul - perhaps not??? Union Jack (scroll down)... http://boxoffice.nycballet.com/nycballet/c2012_SINGLE_TICKETS-p1.html By the way, did you happen to notice that the ballet tickets reflect a start time of 7:30PM, while the upcoming highlights insert (mailed along with the tickets) reflects a start time of 7:00PM?
-
Just curious. You received an insert with your tickets? Mine didn't have one, plus I noticed that the actual name of the show isn't imprinted on the tickets, did that happen to you too?
-
Yes Triplets, all very confusing and conflicting information in several places.

I am really surprised that you did not receive an upcoming highlights insert with your tickets, surely a misfire with your envelope. The upcoming highlights insert specifically notes the New York City Ballet's seasonal highlights, now highlighting Swan Lake, Ocean's Kingdom and The Nutcracker. The back of the insert simply notes that new to this season, beginning in September, for all fall, winter, and spring repertory performances Thursday evening curtains begin at 7:30PM. Worth noting that Ocean's Kingdom (highlighted on the front) lists 7:00PM - part of the confusion as the Ocean's Kingdom premiere falls upon a Thursday evening. If you wish to have an upcoming highlights insert as part of your ticket keepsake, there is still plenty of time to have a copy mailed to you. You may contact the New York City Ballet here: http://www.nycballet.com/visitors/contactnycb.html If you do not wish to have a physical copy, but would like to see upcoming highlights simply have a look here: http://www.nycballet.com/index.html As to the reason that Ocean's Kingdom is not printed on your tickets - the cast and program are subject to change without notice. The tickets are delivered in the same manner for all performances. The validity of your ticket is reflected within the date and time, not the program. If you will have a look at the back of your ticket you will find this notice. This notice is also given prior to purchasing all tickets. Hope this helps. Post edited to include a missing word.

Sorry to hear these are all sold out for the premier, will have to miss that. I didn't realize that I could have bought a ticket with my Amex. Tomorrow is the sale for further ticket sales on different days. Looking forward to this as well

Hi l2t, tickets for all performances of Ocean's Kingdom are available now via the American Express pre-sale. The pre-sale is not limited to the premiere performance. If simply being "in the house" for the premiere is your goal, tickets are still available on the fourth ring. If you have never been to the David H. Koch Theater, seating is very limited at only 2,544 - less than half the seating capacity of RCMH. With limited capacity such as this, seating on the fourth ring is not really all that bad. If you are looking for something much better than just simply being "in the house" for the premiere, as gnome indicated, tomorrow's general public sale is definitely worth a try. Good luck!

Thanks so much TLP, I didn't see any available seats originally, and I just tore up the place and found my Amex. I put it away the last time I traveled.

Just remember that anything is possible, kittay! On the 30th of last month, I found myself time traveling with someone from this board. We traveled all the way back to 8:00 PM ET New Year's Eve 1969! If you cannot physically be present for the premiere you will be there in spirit! WiFi is available, so hopefully updates will be plentiful!

Here's an interesting detailed story in today's New York Times about Paul's work on the Ocean's Kingdom ballet; http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/11/arts/dance/paul-mccartneys-ocean-kingdom-at-city-ballet.html It spells out clearly that he's spent a lot of time working on many aspects of this ballet, including doing paintings for the backdrops that the ballet company is going to project as backdrops for the scenes. And it says he's "donated his services" to the ballet company for this. I really hope this gets good reviews (especially the music). He's obviously passionate about the project.

I looked at the calendar and the running times page on NYC ballet site again. Now it says the ballet is beginning at 7:35 and Union Jack is no longer listed; Union Jack is listed on other days that Ocean's Kingdom is being performed, and curiously Union Jack is listed for the Friday. I wonder if that is an error on the website: calendar: http://www.nycballet.com/nycb/utils/calendar.aspx Run time page: Thursday September 22, 2011 at 7:30 PM NYCB Fall Gala Ocean's Kingdom 54 min. 7:35 PM to 8:29 PM http://www.nycballet.com/timings/wk2.html

This is going to be a lovely spectacle, one feels, just lovely, with beautiful music. Exciting in a different way from a new release of original Paul rock/pop music, but exciting in its own way. Knowing he's painting some of the backdrops himself adds a great deal to one's expectations, and that Stella McCartney is designing the costumes Did Paul write the story, too? A romance-themed ballet. Not like "The Black Swan" I hope. (LOL)
