Paul Collaborates On World Premiere NYC Ballet
-
Not surprising to me, the ballet was very moving and emotional. I enjoyed it so much I think this is my favorite classical piece, Paul has out did himself again... wonderful!! I especially liked the bells/chimes ? that played throughout. Then there was a really nice part that they played a bit of at the beginning. I really would love to see it again, a bit closer. It was a very moving story and was a bit far away to see the costumes really well, but they were extremely colorful and flowing. As Joyce mentioned, the musical director played various movements from the ballet and described them at length. From his description, you could tell that Paul did some different things than they were used to, and so it was refreshing to them. I got to see Paul and Nancy arrive and Nancy's dress was really beautiful. It was a wonderful night and I can't wait to buy the DVD?

One YouTube account worth watching in case they upload a sneaky glimpse of the performance itself, this clip from Paul's entrance to the theatre:
MartinWow. I didn't realize Nancy's dress was so backless. Show it again, Nancy.

Sigh* another article that passes Nancy off as a mere heiress. THey got that part wrong. and James does not look comfortable. but Paul's statements were great about writing emotion.

Just arrived home 24 hours after leaving my house for the performance--7 hour drive each way! What an amazing night! The ballet was incredible, and I'm not a ballet fan. lol Stella's costume designs were breathtaking (my favorite were the bad guys' outfits), and the music, oh the music! Genius! Here are the videos I took of the arrivals and the curtain calls James McCartney arriving http//

Thanks for the updates everyone. Looks like a great time was had by all! Wish I knew the whole storyline of the ballet.

Great links martin and walliebaby, thanks! I actually would like to see that. Any talk of filming it? I saw in one of your clips wallie, how cool is Paul!, stopping to wave to more fans and have a good time. it really looked like he was in great spirits and having a blast. Hamming it up with the performers I liked in the curtain call, how they're all waving, and Paul starts playing air guitar that guy is awesome
-
He really appeared energetic and excited by the whole experience--the air guitar is one of my favorite moments of the night, aside from the amazing ballet! lol

I am sooooo happy that I took my children to the world premiere of Ocean's Kingdom - a once in a lifetime experience for them. LOVED every minute of this ballet - absolutely brilliant!!! The score is extraordinary, the choreography phenomenal, and the costumes strikingly beautiful! We thoroughly enjoyed Music Director, Fayçal Karoui's presentation of See the Music - magnificent! Very thoughtful with his Let It Be pun. So endearing to see Peter Martins' gracious and grateful tribute to Paul, very heartwarming! Proposing a toast to Paul with a cup of tea was incredibly thoughtful, unique and very sweet - LOVED it!!! The storyline is exceptionally poignant encompassing nearly all emotions throughout the performance. The three drunken lords were fantastic! The imprisonment of Princess Honorata - sooooo moving! Very heartwarming to see the love and support within the McCartney family - beautiful!!! Paul appeared to be very happy, it was a joy to see him surrounded by those whom he loves, immersed in a project he is clearly passionate about. LOVED when Paul went over to Stella to give her a kiss during a curtain call - very, very sweet!!! Some of the most beautiful music that Paul has ever created - lovely!!! We cannot wait until the CD release of Ocean's Kingdom and would LOVE to see an eventual DVD release of this program, most definitely including See the Music. Very, very well done!!! Would LOVE to see this ballet again and would highly recommend seeing this program should one have an opportunity to do so - stunningly brilliant!!! I believe my son summed up our evening's experience best whilst walking in the Lincoln Center courtyard......"We are really lucky to be living in the same time period as Paul. We are participants in the history of one of the greatest musical geniuses that will ever live." Triplets LOVE Paul!!!

Thanks, Triplets. ) I pulled over at a truck stop after the first (of seven!) hours of driving back home yesterday night so I could watch them and make sure they came out okay, lol lol I'm sorry I missed you and the triplets there! Someday, I need to meet you all! Glad you all had as fantastic a time as I did, and I wholeheartedly agree that this ballet is a MUST SEE for all fans of Paul, and of good music. wink

Wallie! How great that you were able to tape & share all of that with us. Thanks so very much! How cool is that guy :
-
Thanks, Oobu--I wanted to make sure everyone could experience the show, even if they couldn't be there in person. )

In the You Tube video that martin posted, Paul signed an autograph.
-
He did--she is one of my friends on facebook and must have paid for a VIP ticket, as she and her mother were allowed behind the first barrier. (There was the barrier lining both sides of the red carpet, and then a barrier between the VIP non-red carpet entrance and the general public.) She and her mom waited in the VIP barrer section for Paul to walk by, but then caught up with him in the venue where he signed for her.

It was a rousing success. Stella?s costumes were spectacular. Prior to the performance, the musical director played bits of the score as he explained how Paul had constructed the music. After that the host expressed great appreciation to Paul for his contribution to the NYC Ballet and he ?toasted? Paul from the stage with a cup of tea. Paul and Stella joined the cast for three curtain calls. I thought the ballet was very dynamic and engaging and the audience was very warm and responsive. NYC Channel 1 News at 11 just had a nice feature of Paul with Nancy and also Stella arriving on the red carpet.
OH MY GAWD!!!! Paul has Outdone himself again!!! I am Moved to tears of this Sweet and Honorable Epic of 'MAGIC" HE HAS DONE HERE! My Cup Runnith Over with LOVEeeee! and Look at those Costumes Stella Designed!!!! OMG how Untterly COOL SHE IS! I am Moved beyond words!!! I can only say, I need that CD and DVD Right Away!!! and all Done in time of Our "Lovely Lady Linda's Birthday!" I cannot speak, I cry the Beauty that has risen in me today! just look at this Precious Couple, Nancy and Paul. they will hold close to each other, 4 ever now!
-
Thank-you for the comments, you lucky people who were at the debut! I have tix for one of the January performances, even though Paul won't be at those! I've never been to the ballet, but what better introduction could there be?
-
It's really a gorgeous show, and the perfect ballet (not too complex in the music or choreography) for a beginner to mid-range ballet fan. ) It's got a great modern funkiness to it, in so small part to Paul's composition and Stella's costume contributions. I'm seriously contemplating another 14-hour drive to see it again. )
-
Thank you so much for posting the YouTube videos. I so very much enjoyed watching them. Next best thing to being there in person.
