Paul's Speaking Voice / Accent
-
First of all, we all have accents and different ways of speaking. It is who we are. I love Paul's accent from the Beatles to now and if your friend does not like his accent, simply don't listen.

Something about the drawl Paul uses now, combined with the strange accent and that mellow slightly hippyish tone. I don't find it annoying myself, but I was quite amused and wanted to see what people thought.
Perosnally, I am also amused by Paul's 'slightly hippyish tone' too and am for personal reasons. (daddy will never leave that part of himself behind. It gave him too much). but personally, many American females have a soft spot for sexy British accents (a direct result of the British Invasion of both the 60s and 80s). I never found Paul's speaking voice as sexy as George's. I do think Paul has a great speaking and singing voice but for some reason, I wouldn't call his speaking voice the sexiest or most astounding British accent. (Patrick Stewart on the other hand...)
I was watching my Rock & Roll Hall of Fame DVD last night, and on the second disc is Paul's 1999 performance of "Blue Suede Shoes." He speaking voice sounded strikingly youthful. These days, I think he might speak in the lower registers of his voice to preserve his performance-voice.

It's a bit cilia black if you have a listen

I wish Paul would record some audio books. I love the rich deep warm tones of his speaking voice which are echoed in his singing. Would love to hear that voice going on and on in an audio book or several, now and for posterity... It's intriguing how different Northern England accents are from South of England's.

Right now, to me, he always sounds like he's chewing gum or has a marble in his mouth! Don't know why his speaking voice has changed so much, whilst Ringo's and George Martin's stayed the same.

Also, what is his accent nowadays? How has his voice and accent changed and developed over the years?
I'm going to get this BBC Archive Audiobook as my next payday treat: http://maccaboard.paulmccartney.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=82393 That has interviews with Paul from 1968 to 2009 and should help address this question Martin
This would be a great thing to have

I heard he and Linda liked to put on strange sounding voices (you can hear them at it on Press to Play) which sort of went along with their pulling funny faces, they really liked to in some photos. Sometimes John suddenly started talking in funny exaggerated tones. For one thing they were in touch with their inner child and could still mess around and have fun in child-like ways, which goes along with being artists

Regarding what Nancy R thought, I hope it's not because he's taking some kind of tranquillizer pill or sedative. I hope he doesn't have to. An anti-depressant of some sort. I hope he's happy.

That is most certainly NOT what it is! He does chew gum a lot during interviews which doesn't help!

Paul has a little gob, it's getting smaller as he ages, so the words come out garbled sometimes. I think a mate of mine probably described it best:- "He's got a mouth like a kitten's a-hole."
-
He seems to be munching on "whatever" when he does interviews. Wow...a thread revived from 2011 & we are talking about talking with food in your mouth! LOL.

Yeah! He's either eating or chewing gum!

Suzy, what's the Audio book that Paul recorded? I really like listening to Paul's voice as well, I'll have to get that one. The Northern accent is the easiest to understand! I'll have to get this.

Ironically, a 2 part miniseries on the life of Peter Allen literally just aired here last week: Peter Allen - Not the Boy Next Door. Good telly, and a great reminder of how underrated a songwriter he is. And Hugh? Well, he can do it all - and a great bloke.

I heard about that on a Hugh Jackman forum I frequent. I would like to see it! I've been a fan of Hugh's since 2000 and X-Men!
