I wasn't around when they were popular, and caught them when MTV was re-airing the show. My mom, though, was a HUGE fan, and still has some merch of theirs as well as some grainy concert photos she took when she and her cousin traveled 10 hours to see one of their shows. I didn't realize that they were the first group to use a synth in a recording, but did remember that they rivaled the Beatles in popularity in the US, at least for a while.
Wallie, I had the same experiences as you with seeing the Monkees on tv in the mid 80's. Are you sure we werent' ssperated at birth, then?
If you love Star Trek, playing video games, and find Family Guy incredibly amusing, I'm going to have to say "yes".
In answer to your last part: Yes, I do occasionally, and mostly yes. Does that count?
*ding ding* We have a winner!

Earl Scruggs also passed away recently, and I thought, "That's more important than someone like Davy Jones passing" and immediately felt guilty, should not have placed more value on Earl Scruggs' life than Davy's...what I really meant was I placed more value on Earl's talents I suppose and his place in music history, his heritage, etc.

This is a remembrance thread for Davy Jones, feel free to open a thread for Earl Scruggs, every single persons passing is important to someone somewhere, in this instance Earl Scruggs means absolutely nothing to me.. right where did i put my banjo

hey hey hey Mr. Bossy, I started this topic so assumed I could add a few lines if I desired...I understand what I wrote didn't turn out right. Davy was bubblegum pop while Earl was classic bluegrass, two totally different genres, so I guess I shouldn't consider Scruggs more heavy and profound a musician than Jones as it wasn't fair to compare two completely different musical styles. Somethin' like dat ops:

God rest Davy Jones' soul, but he gave the "soul" to Micky:
-
audi--do you mean Micky Dolenz sings better? I think so too ops:
-
I'm sure that even Davy agreed with that.

I know. I kept seeing these reports that said Davy Jones, lead singer of the Monkees. But in fact Micky was the lead singer on most of their hits and best songs. Davy did a great job as lead tambourine and heartthrob. He'd also teach Bob Marley a thing or two about dancing in place.

Where do you think Axel Rose got his moves from?

Mickey Dolenz is the man! I'm a big fan. He was really cool to have participated with such great stuff in the Harry Nilsson documentary. but Davy actually did sing the Nilsson penned hit they had called Cuddly Toy.

we may as well rename this thread "long live Micky" I thought most of the girls would have been for Davy, he was more of an actor anyway
