Pretty much, and the fact he has been pretty rubbish and appears as a caricature of himself at these big events. Personally I think his reputation has taken a massive hit that will be hard to recover from, I mean why would young people have any incentive to look up his music? He's just an old man who gets rolled out to sing Hey Jude badly at big events.

I just looked on Twitter and there weren't even that many comments about the Jools show. Maybe 15 or 20. And I also saw some nice comments. It will take a while for this Olympics debacle to blow over and maybe it never will. It's not like you all were all that fond of Paul before this. The Daily Mail was filled with nasty comments well before this summer. The fact is the UK folks have never been very kind to Paul -- since about, oh, 1970. The years of nasty comments about Linda, the endless cracks about the Frog Chorus (how long has Paul had to listen to some variation of that stupid slam about that song?), the endless cracks about Wings being the band the Beatles could have been. Let's face it: Taking potshots at Paul is practically a national past-time over there. And the newest one is this "Does Paul have to end every big event?" You know what? I really don't care what the haters in the UK think. And Twitter is no place to judge things anyway. Heck, this week Twitter was loaded with nasty comments calling John Lennon a wife beater. So my reaction is: Whatever.

Sigh. You really don't want to do a search on 'McCartney' on Twitter after they did a re-run of the Jools Holland 'Golden Moments' show from 2010, which closed with... McCartney. Painful combination in the UK at the moment. Ah, sod them, history will make it right in 50 years.
I don't understand the ridiculous level of hate, the Jools performance was good! This summer has simply destroyed Paul's already shot reputation in the UK. I don't care if people want to deny it, the general perception is extraordinarily negative. Even a good performance or a non-Beatles song gets slagged.
I agree about the Jools performance. That was one of the good ones he did in the UK.

Well, he was but I've learned that comments on Twitter, Youtube, and any newspaper aren't even worth my time. LJ only if it's a good discussion not just more of that same mentality displayed in the other places and FB? Well, I've got really good friends there.

Plastic Soul Man:
That Paul faces his final curtain. He did alright did Paulie at the jubilee, and I thought he really tried hard to deliver and to a certain extent he succeeded. He nailed All My Loving, for instance, but the signs are naked to all of us: it is a real struggle and he is becoming like Sinatra did after about 65 - a shadow of himself. I fear with these kind of shows he is gradually eroding his legacy and to many he is irrelevant. A sad state of affairs of being alive really - when he should be embraced and loved even more. Every time I now feel so nervous that he does not embarrass himself on these kind of shows, he is just about getting away with it at the moment. Please let the olympics be the very last of these events for Paul. There ARE many songs he can still really deliver which won't attract the criticism or strain on his voice that it does with many. I hope someone will tell him as he still has so much to offer - even live. However, more importantly his song writing is still very strong, as evident from My Valentine, as is his creative instinct, see The Fireman etc. His recorded voice is still OK, and this is the main reason why I am so frustrated that there has been no bona fide solo album for 5 years - the longest in his career. Every month counts to get as much wonderful new music out of this genius while his voice can still deliver. It is real proof why live performance needs to take second fiddle from now, or have a real rethink. Our dreams of hearing certain songs will mainly always be dreams now as sadly he will not do them justice. I enjoyed last night and he still kicked many of the others into touch, but we must all take a reality check.
So back to your original post after a bum numbing afternoon reading this thread..........in short Plastic you're right !

In the end I think something like this is what we would all like to see...

I say... Paul should do We All Stand Together as concert opener. Or as concert closer. It would be awesome, and Paul's definitely "I don't give a damn" remark. I can picture the crowd singing it.

Leaving right now, will be there again today. We're hosting clients, in otherwords just showing them a good time which is not at all difficult at that place when the sun is shining and there free cocktails at the chalet! Monday will be rough though.. But well worth it. Was 5 ft from Tiger as he chipped a ball up onto the green, that was sweet. And was about 10 ft from Michael Jordan as Bubba Watson was hitting. Those were highlight moments for me so far. Scalp a ticket and get out on the course! If you do check into this thread, I'll check it at noon, we can hook up!

This would be awesome. Which is why it'll never happen. But it would be wonderful if it did.
