"Flowers In The Dirt" is 23 years old today !! jun

My first Paul album, my parents bought it to me in July 1990 (in cassette). I was 10 back then. This album introduced me to Paul's solo career and I have very fond feelings on it. "My Brave Face" (which was the song that we entered to our wedding party with), "This One" and "Figure Of Eight" are my favourites. Their video clips (that I used to watch on a VHS tape that I had recorded from TV) are very special for me as well, I could tell them from memory. I used to watch them when I was a little kid, and I now I watch them with my daughter sitting on my knees. That's the kind of magic that Paul can achieve.

Great album, one of his best. "This One" is brilliant, great lyrics and catchy tune, Paul at his best. "Put It There" and "Figure of Eight" are my other favs.

I have a video of my (then) 2 year old daughter in 1989 singing My Brave Face in the bathtub!

Very funny, I could have written this myself. I also bought the cassette in 1990 and I completely wore it down..the only thing I had before this was my mom's original Please Please Me cassette..so it was an introduction for me as well..

I can remember all the attention at the time ,with Elvis & the Tour looming large , great times to be a Macca fan & such a great album, yeah there is the odd clunker, but overall a true latter day classic.

That is funny, especially as I will always remember our three year old thought the line in My Brave Face that goes "breaking up dirty dishes and throwing them away" was hilarious. He would jump up and down, laughing. Guess he wanted to break up our dirty dishes. Apparently, given the response of our children, THAT is the Paul song little kids like rather than Mary Had A Little Lamb.

That was a very exciting time, we knew the tour was coming but he waited a long time to announce specific dates which added to the suspense. Anyone in the States remember that VH-1 did an all Paul videos weekend when Flowers came out? Some guy with them interviewed Paul for the network, can't remember his name now. So much has changed since then.

I remember that very well. They covered pretty much everything that is now on the McCartney years dvd. It was really amazing. Sad to think that classic artists won't get played on tv like that anymore. Then again, the dvd collections do satisfy me now.

Somewhere, I still have an old VHS tape of that weekend. It was fun to look forward to something like that on TV at the end of a work week. Like you say though, we are much better off with the Macca Years DVD

Agreed. I like the fact I can just put a dvd in and watch the videos anytime. They can keep their notMTV.

Finally found myself a vinyl LP copy of Flowers In The Dirt today!!! Thats not actually a pic of my copy or player, just thought it looked good got it for $7 from this place http://www.reckless.com/ also got Nilsson's 1st album, 'Spotlight on Nilsson', original 1966 pressing on Tower label, $18!! in great shape too. and I got the Midnight Cowboy soundtrack for $3 and Ringo's Sentimental Journey on Apple for $2! but that ones cover is not in very good shape at all.. but the vinyl's basically prestine! wierd. but anyway, the celebration here is about finally finding Flowers on vinyl! I'm pumped great looking record.

Great finds kapoo!

Really wish this would get the remaster treatment so i can finally own thi album. I'm desperate for it, all the songs from tis album on the Mccartney years dvd are brilliant! My favourite being Figure of Eight, so under rated. i do know the version for the video is different from the album rack. Why is this so? I did think they were two different mixes, but th music to the video fits the performance so well I think it was recorded live, with all audeince noise an singing totally mixed out, giving it the sound and punch of a studio recording. Anyone shed any light on this?
-
I really enjoy the more recent albums, but I do miss this side of Paul. He seems more confident on this record and it's cool.

Thanks Nancy! one of the reasons I love this forum is I know certain people will share in the enjoyment I get of finding sweet McCartney vinyl! people, now I admittedly at this point may be experiencing some sort of placebo effect with vinyl.. as in just because the sound is coming from that sweet black plastic I automatically trick myself into thinking it sounds so much better etc etc.. but Flowers In The Dirt sounds AMAZING on vinyl. whole nother ballgame. I'm just loving this album right now. Figure of 8, How Many People are just all out killing me. had a bit of a listening party tonight, just me and my daughter, partying in our own clean fun styles, down in my man cave listening room dungeon/her play room.. having some fun, check this out can you even hear whats playing?? Its figure of 8. basically I'm just cracking up.
Big props and much love, for Flowers In The Dirt. that albums a total winner -

good call, and notice its actually dueling lava lamps! I'm a big time dork. There's nothing like that soft red light those things give off as I'm falling asleep in my vinyl lair, to the soothing sounds of a little Flowers In The Dirt That's a little crappy record player but actually provides decent sound. I have a better one in my family room but the wifey doesn't like my entire record collection on display upstairs.. Ain't she mean!

Btw Nancy, don't I remember you saying a while back you have a son or daughter really into Blink 182? If not I may be imagining things.. But of so you should play him or her my Canary Robbery punk tracks, let them hear 4th & Goal or Double Vision, would like to know what they think, if we're on the level, etc. Anyway, back to topic

'the Figure of 8', I like it! I'll tell her that! the sounds literally brought her to her knees that girl is passionate about music, just like me. Its really sweet. yeah buddy, I'm all about vinyl as you know. to me the tones are just so much better. glad you can hear it well enough. I was worried about people not even being able to hear it cuase I wasn't actually playing it that loudly, and plus Rae was yelling most of the time. but I love it, good times w Paul! apparently a key part of the 'figure of 8' dance is slapping your ass that was a classic maneuver on her part..
