I'd like to hear 4 or 5 songs from KOTB sprinkled throughout a new set list at a Paul show. It continues to be a surprising little gem of an album. And while the Ram reissue is no longer in the top 200, I would like to point out that KOTB was No. 9 this week on the Billboard Jazz Chart. (Sits back, takes out popcorn, waits for a new round of feuding to break out.)
Ah! We finally have found the source of all of the fights around here lately! Ready to have your mind blown? I will up the ante to two KOTB songs, one original written by Paul (take your pick, as they're both good), and one cover (pick "Inch Worm" and I swear I will hunt you down and do damage to your car! ). How about that for being accommodating?
Compromise is a lovely thing. And how about this: You get to pick which additional KOTB song he covers.
Ah, Michelley, I knew I liked you for a reason.
grrr ok...BUT he has to drop a bunch of Beatles songs & add more recent stuff. Where was that setlist wix made up of 6 from each decade? Wasn't to bad. few tweeks needed...
Oobu...I dug it out of the rumors thread for you 1. I Saw Her Standing There 2. Jet 3. The World Tonight 4. Take it Away 5. Coming Up 6. Lonely Road 7. Ever Present Past 8. Wanderlust 9. The Long and Winding Road 10.Yesterday 11.Tug of War 12.Heaven on a Sunday 13.I Do 14.This One 15. Hope of Deliverance 16.Pipes of Peace 17.Fine Line 18.Vintage Clothes 19.That Was Me 20.Feet in The Clouds 21.This Never Happened Before 22.My Brave Face 23.Listen To What The Man Said 24.Uncle Albert Admiral Halsey/ 25.Live and Let Die 26.Let it Be 27.Hey Jude ENCORE 28.No More Lonely Nights 29.Silly Love Songs 30.Get Back 31.Goodnight Tonight ENCORE 32.Beautiful Night 33.Band on The Run what would you change?

6,8,10,14 for a KOTB number & I'd love Highway...his voice handles that quite nice;y...what else?

No need for 4 KOTB tracks...I'd hate to see any of those go but...whatever you think, I'm interested

I think it would definitely help if he cut his show down to 2 or 2 1/2 hours. Change the setlist to reflect songs he sings better, eg bring back Letting Go and he will be fine. The rockers and his acoustic set can be really good.
Agreed. I don't want him to quit touring until he feels he's ready to, but I also don't want him straining to hit notes he might not be able to anymore, either.
Yeah, I don't want him to stop doing something he loves but atleast make the setlist reflect what he can do best these days. His piano ballads are the ones he struggles most with eg TLAWR, Let it Be, Maybe I'm Amazed.
I seriously don't know how I could agree more with this post. TLAWR is one that has been pretty painful to sit through during concerts, at least for me. I've seem Paul 18 times in 11 years, and some night Maybe I'm Amazed has sounded good, other nights I've winced. I think it's time that this one goes the way of the dinosaur, at least in relation to Paul's setlist. He would benefit from doing a realistic re-evaluation of the setlist for any upcoming concerts he's planning. I'm looking forward to seeing him live again, and soon, but I would also love for him to sing songs to their fullest.
Yeah, more great points and agree with them all The benefit of dropping songs like this aswell and adding lesser known songs would reflect how good his solo/wings cannon is. I mean outside The Beatles joe public knows MIA, BOTR, Jet, L&LD. Apart from that I imagine not alot is known.
MAYBE the songs he has written in the last few decades may be better suited to his more adult voice. I'd love to hear so many more of his current songs in the setlist...except stuff from KOTB.
Definitely.

I think the maximum of 2 from KOTB, Only our Hearts would sit good along side My Valentine.

Macca would regard these as 'going off to have a beer' songs, a bit of a downer for the performer watching people disappear to the loo or whatever. Of course, he's not playing for fans, in a way. He's playing for the general public who are musical sightseers, they want to tick off the famous songs like tourists want to tick off the main attractions. Unless he downsizes venues, he won't be playing any rarities. There's also the slight chance that doing rarities may be a tough call, if indeed he has a backing track playing underneath him on tour, it will have to be set up that way. He won't be able to go from his smoky croak on KOTB to nailing Drive My Car perfectly without a few people rumbling him. What I don't get is why he doesn't pull every string to make his vocals on record sound better, I for one wouldn't complain about that. He does have a rather perverse attitude sometimes, going for authentic on record, when it's for posterity and you'd rather her it perfect-ish.
-
I don't see the point of him doing ANYTHING from KOTB when he has so many better songs which he doesn't give light of day any more - if he does continue touring - the show needs to be revamped to suit - Hey Jude is a great song to play live when you have 50'000 fans singing along until theirs hearts are content - my point was The Olympic opener/closure was way below par - that's my opinion, people have their own opinions, I can respect that - with that said, The End was great.
-
It's not exactly that Paul focus on Beatle songs but on songs of the decade 1963-1973. He only plays 3 or 4 songs beyond that date in every show (Sing The Changes, Junior's Farm, My Valentine, ?)
-
He's given Beatle fans what they want for 23 years now. Ever since returning with his worldwide tours of 89' onwards he has catered for the Beatle fans. Its now time to say, sod them. Revamp his setlist back to the WOA days and belt out the many Wings & Solo songs that he can still do justice. What about all the songs from Flaming Pie onwards....
-
He's dug himself into a hole I think, he's become the Beatles official spokesman rather than an individual who has created a rich catalog of songs in the last 40 years. The thing is though, I think the fact that he gets so much more recognition and acclaim for his Beatles years has gone to his head for the last 25 years or so and he has convinced himself that his solo career is nothing compared to it. It's sad really but I think the Beatles are much higher on his radar than his own solo music these days.

Nail on the head It's really sad. I can understand it, we all know the Beatles are the greatest but why not use that to let people be exposed to the mammoth 40 years of quality music. The critics are starting to realise now for the public. Give me solo macca over Beatle macca any day of the week.

Well, there is another reason to stick with the oldies if his voice aint too good. People can project their memory of the classic song and sing along, giving his voice a bit of double tracking that you didn't get in the Olympic venue. So it holds up okay. With a rarity, there's a chance that many won't know the song, so it becomes 'let's stand back and see Paul pull this off' where his vulnerabilities are exposed.

A valid point. I'm still, though, in the crew that thinks if he changed the key of some of the songs and not try to sing them as he could decades ago, he could really pull off a killer concert. Mind you, I love his concerts now, but there are times when I'm wincing at some of notes in certain songs, usually the Beatles songs. It's not anything that ruins my concert experience by any means, but I think he could save his vocal chords the strain if he would just re-evaluate what he's singing, and in what keys.

This is the point where my head explodes. This internet opinion piece is talking about who should have closed the Olympics opening ceremonies: Paul or One Direction. Seriously. http://celebs.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474981517407

Seriously do we think Olympic stadium would have broken out in a One Direction song yesterday? It seems ridiculous that any of this stuff is taken seriously.

Well if it's any consolation, The Sun had a similar article and the vast majority of commenters were calling the idea of One Direction performing in that closing slot ridiculous. So there is still some sanity left in the world. I think we are just going to have to accept that when you do a belly flop in front of the entire world -- like Paul did -- people are going to use you as a punchline and say dumb things like this. It's not going to stop any time soon, unfortunately.

from where i was watching the whole olympic stadium only gave a luke warm response to 'hey jude' anyway.....part of the problem was that macca came on way too late at the end of a long night after athletes paraded around a track for 2 hours....forgetting what anyone thinks of maccas performance [lets not go there again ] i thought the scheduling was bizzarr and wrong......'one diection' im not even sure who there are,but im sure they are a modern band ,so YES they should have been on instead of macca...time for the old brigade to move on ...this is not their time anymore

You're not sure who they are and that's why you're saying they should have been on instead of Macca. I hate their music and I know a LOT of people that turn off the telly when they appear. The old brigade haven't moved on because musicians like One Direction are trash. People from latinoamerica are still laughing for the "One Erection" video (one person making fun of their fans). One Direction (for me) is like a band with 5 biebers.
