"Press to Play" was the first McCartney album I went out and bought on release date. (Had been a fan for a couple of years). Got all the singles on release date as well. From day one I loved the album. Each and every track on it. I can think of several other 80's albums that have aged worse than this one. It has become a myth/legend that it's a bad album. And some people just keep echoing the myth.
Could not have said it better myself.

Well I'm afraid it's the only McCartney album I have that I don't like. I find it quite irritating to listen to in the main. Sorry! Maybe it will grow on me.

Hey, you gave it an honest try I gurantee you, it will grow on you..........if you listen to it once a day for at least a year. But if you don't like it, it'll be just like torture. I do recommend you take a second listen to "Footprints", "Only love remains, "It's not true (7" version),", "Angry (Remix)" and "However Absurd".

Pretty Little Head is one of my five-star McCartney songs, I absolutely love that track and listen to it lots. It's another one which you can place in a playlist and people don't realise it is McCartney - my friends aren't really Paul fans but lots of them love this song too.
-
I am listening to it right now. "Pretty Little Head" is on. When I play it on the computer, I replace "Good Times Coming/Feel the Sun" with the 7:12 version. Is that wrong?
-
I wouldn't say it was wrong as I too prefer the full version of Feel The Sun, but the bootleg of the full length version is missing the vital over-dubs and the glorious final mix of the shorter. I hope when this comes to a remaster that 1: I'll still be alive and 2: The full version with the full over-dubs and final mix is on it somewhere.

My thoughts exactly!

I truly like it and think it is possibly his most underrated album by fans. It's most certainly a period piece, but the songs are terrific.

Couldn't agree more. I think -- shock, horror -- it's his best album. And it is certainly my favourite. So many people chose to decry the style, and completely ignore the content. It is brilliant. Give me this over the much-lauded but rather drab, self-conscious 'Chaos and Creation' any day of the year.

I've done quite a few spins with Press To Play. I also feel it is really under rated. Not certain why, but different tastes I guess.

Underrated? No, pretty much unlistenable. "Footprints" is pretty good, but feels like it dropped in from some other album. Most of the rest is just crap. The mid-'80s were Paul's all-time low point artistically.

If that is the case then I think Macca gets the award for best mid-life crisis album too. Is there no end to the Man's achievements?
