Paul @ London 100 Club, Friday, 17 Dec, 12.30 pm - ARCHIVE
-
oh and btw, Ticketmaster says 2 ticket limit and this is a paperless show. So there won't be any actual tickets - purchaser has to show up with ID/credit card - so if someone buys a ticket for you, you are gonna have to find them to get into the show. Good luck all!
-
its a lunch time show from an email from ticket master Paul and his band will take it back to basics with a special stripped down show at London?s famous 100 Club. Paul and his band will play a lunchtime show at the historic venue this Friday, in what will be his smallest show since his headline grabbing gig at the Cavern Club in Liverpool back in 1999.

Amazing gig, but no chance of any of us getting tickets! The 100 Club (100 Oxford St) was a famous jazz venue in the 60s. When punk came along, it became a venue of choice for many of the bands - The Pistols famously played there. In those days the stage was at one end. Nowadays the layout is weird, with a transverse stage so that, in front of the stage it is no more than 20 metres deep. There are pillars to obscure the view, but everywhere you are close to the stage. I've been there quite a lot recently - James played there with his band earlier this year - and I love it .... it even has decent ale, unlike almost any other non-pub venue in London. Although it doesn't have brickwork or arches of The Cavern, it is a basement club and - what with the lunchtime start, it could have a whiff of Beatlemania about it! Sell your Granny to get in I'll try to post a couple of pictures of the venue when James played there.

Exactly. When I saw "100 Club" in the thread title, I nearly knocked over my computer. Anyone who gets a ticket to this is a lucky sod indeed.

James plays the mandolin http://twitpic.com/3fz5n2 You can see the far wall of the club here - this is almost the full length. The club is probably twice the width you can see here. The left hand border is the first row of pillars - there's as much space again behind them, so what you see here is about half of the club. Now *that's small! http://twitpic.com/3fz7li
-
Wow that is small People who go there will be lucky
-
WOW! What a surprise. I wish I could be there. It is gonna be a intimate show for sure given the capacity of the venue. Good luck to everybody going for tickets tomorrow. Don't even blink and starting refreshing your browser now.

c'mon paul, take a turn up to liverpool for the 17th. Take a look at what's going on at the Casbah: It's the 50th anniversary TO THE EXACT DATE of the boys first EVER appearance in Liverpool as "direct from hamburg, The Beatles". the original bill from Dec 17 1960 is being recreated. Seems the only missing person (still living) is sir paul. Earl PReston and the TT's appearring, pete best and his band. Heck, Chas Newby will probably be there too. (Chas filled in on bass when Stu didn't come back to Liverpool on this trip): john, paul, george, pete and chas were "the Beatles" on december 17 1960. might sir paul stop in at the casbah ? it's been 48+ years. Rumor is that the casbah door is always open for Sir Paul. He can revisit the striped ceiling that he painted. December 17th is a major anniversary in beatles history. It's paul's 50th anniversary as much as it is Pete's as well. Have a pint together. Go on...call the driver and have him take you around to # 8 Haymans Green. see the bacsktory http://www.liverpoolbeat.com/Pete-Best-It-Was-50-Years-Ago-Today.html

I hope this works for you. I'm sure Paul would be there if he can. I'm still in London on Friday, I'm ganna try for that one but most likely I'll end up standing in the street to see him drive in.

I'm wondering if the iTunes festival gig at the ICA 5th July 2007 is a closer match for the smallest show than the Cavern Club engagement? http://www.ica.org.uk/12272/Spaces/Theatre.html suggests a standing audience capacity of 350 as well, like the 100 Club. With both rooms open the Cavern Club holds 380 - although for that show capacity was severely restricted due to the recording and video equipment demands. That show was more of a TV studio recording rather than a concert ... Best wishes to all those trying today, I'm not chancing it Martin
-
You're right Martin. I wasn't at the gig but I've been to gigs at the ICA before and it'd definitely smaller than the 100 Club.
-
Ah, I have to correct myself here. The press blurb has the following phrase:
Macca is bringing things right back to basics for what will be the smallest paying audience he?s played to since the Cavern Club gig in 1999.
As the ICA gig was competition winners alone, the press release is correct. Not sure what percentage of the Cavern attendance was paying customers though - it was very much a press corp /VIP/ TV executive event - and some comp winners along as well - surely that didn't leave many "paid for" ticket holders? Martin

Martin I'm wondering since this is a "will call only" type of event, will I need a UK address to attempt (keyword ) to purchase a ticket? Or will I be able to get away with just using my Canadian address as they technically do not need to ship anything out to me?

I wouldn't want to attempt to answer such a pivotal question, I could try to find some official terms and conditions or generic answer from TM that might act as a guide, but it appears any setting can be imposed on sales as we saw with overseas sales for London and Liverpool. TM has allowed overseas sales and will call to events in the UK before but the decision was taken not to allow either for those events. Sadly we may not know until the sale opens. I'll scout round though. Martin
-
UK only same as the other gigs. Also its going to be near impossible for ticket touts to ruin this one as there is no physical ticket and you have to present your credit card and id at the door for entry.
-
If you order tickets to an Irish or Northern Irish event and you have a billing address that is outside of Ireland or the UK, then you may be obligated to use international Box Office Collection as we may not have sufficient time to post your tickets to you. You must provide an email address, along with a local telephone number where you can be contacted up to the day of the event. Tickets will be held at the venue box office where the event will take place.
I found this on the UK Ticketmaster website.

There's nothing dedicated to this show on TM although their generic answer about paperless events says Credit/Debit card and valid photo ID are required when entering - drivers license and passport are cited as suitable examples - although not exclusive forms of ID. The only way to find out will be to try - members here only found out about UK addresses when trying to input address details for a purchase. That will be frustrating if you snagged a pair of these tickets and then cannot purchase them so only attempt to buy with that possibility in mind. I'll try to see if the 100 Club has any box office guidelines as well. Martin
-
The 100 Club and it's main ticket seller: http://www.wegottickets.com/faqs/24#faq specialises in paperless ticketing so are well practiced in this Credit/Debit card plus Photo ID policy. They make no reference to overseas purchases in their FAQ but accept all major cards except American Express. Howver the main sale seems to be through TM so again we're down to whatever specific terms are set for this event. All you can do is try. Martin

Even for will call only events? Hm, I get what you're saying though... it definitely makes sense but it's still rather annoying. I'm still going to try just in case but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up. Perhaps if I stand outside the club prior to the gig and look rather pitiful and sad, they'll let me in. :
