Will there ever be a "normal" tour?

And I listen to LOTS of indie rock. There are several tracks from Paul's last few albums that sound every bit as current as those bands.
...I remember when Santana's career was pretty much drifting, then he hit hard with SUPERNATURAL and that breathed new life into his career. That could happen with McCartney...
Agreed.
oh man...wouldn't that be wonderful if THAT happened?
That wasn't mere luck. Santana's record company told him if he wanted to jump start his career, he should have a bunch of guest artists, ie young hot contemporary singers and such, to perform and sing on the album. He went for it, and that hit pay dirt.

Well, Paul is taking long enough...let's keep our fingers crossed.

Yeah, I am optimistic it will be a great CD. Whether that translates to sales and more new songs in the set list, only time can tell.

Didn't Bowie's new album just debut at No. 1?
It did but i think the world thought Bowie had retired

Guys I'd absolutely love to be wrong, but the facts are the facts. McCartney doesn't make the kind of music that is mainstream popular these days. He makes absolutely excellent music, but it's not the type that todays marketplace focuses on. They want Adele, Beyoncé, Rhiana, Beiber, Timberlake etc. Of course anything can happen, but you have to look at the reality of the situation. Also like I said, for whatever reason, they just don't seem to give McCartney the same consideration and chance that they give others. Bowie has a #1, I'd bet anything that his album is no better than McCartney's will be, let's just watch and see how they respond to McCartney's new album. Let's just watch.

Ah, a level head. You speaketh the truth!

Here's another reality: Rhianna's most-recent album debuted at No. 1...with only a mere 10,000 units sold. The industry is in a fuzzy place these days.

I can wait another day, its just another day. He can do it.

If you are talking about the 30-40 date US tour, with a long world tour, I don't see that happening because of the custody arrangements for Beatrice. Paul has stated that Beatrice comes first and she should come first. As for Paul having a hit album again, I would love for that to happen, but I don't see it happen. Most young kids, don't know how good Paul's music is. Also, on a tour, we'd be lucky to hear 2 or 3 songs off a new album.

Guys, I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but I think McCartney could make the album of his life, and it still wouldn't get the credit it deserves! The powers that be, or whoever just won't give McCartney that kind of credit? Some let their personal feelings about McCartney get in the way of giving any of his new music a fair chance. You all have heard or read a lot of the nonsense that follows McCartney around, no matter how good his album may be, do you think people are going to really give him an unbiased open minded chance? I doubt it. Also McCartney is a throw back, he doesn't produce the kind of music that is mainstream popular these days. McCartney is from the old school of rock and rollers most of them aren't making the kind of music Adele and Justin Timberlake make. I'd absolutely love to be completely wrong, but McCartney's albums have too much variety and different styles, and they don't fit into todays popular mainstream mode.
I'm not sure who you think isn't giving Paul's music any credit. "Chaos" and MAF both got reviews that overwhelmingly ranged from positive to glowing, and both sold about as well as any album from artists of Paul's generation -- the Stones, Paul Simon, Dylan, etc. Pop music is a youth world and most of the commercial attention will always be on younger artists, but that has nothing to do with Paul not getting credit for doing good music. Young people barely know who he is, and no one who's 71 is gonna get top 40 radio play. That's life.

But that is you expressing an opinion versus how McCartney is perceived in the market place. Still, I remember when Santana's career was pretty much drifting, then he hit hard with SUPERNATURAL and that breathed new life into his career. That could happen with McCartney. I am not counting Paul out, just saying there are some obstacles. One is that he has a VERY successful career right now touring and playing Beatles songs.
Santanna got a break because of the song "Smooth" with Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20) who was very big at that time. which helped sales.

Excellent post and agree 100%. CHAOS also got major Grammy nomination. (Record Of The Year)

I agree with you, and while it may be true that young people barely know who he is, it is because they know him only as a Beatle.

I said as much in my next post, that he had young, popular guest singers and musicians on the album, which gave him wider exposure.

In the '80s, Paul collaborated with arguably the biggest act since The Beatles, and while sales were huge, history has not been kind to the music. I like the idea of Paul working with pop artists, but I get scared when certain names start coming up.

I'm sure once the new album is released, some of those new songs will be added to the "Out There" setlist, replacing other tracks. I guess that's why the current leg of the tour will end in august: the new album will be released in september/october, then the next leg will be begin and the countries from that leg will be the first ones to hear the new tracks. Which countries? Well, that's a discussion for the "rumours" thread, but Japan has been mentioned, and I bet the UK will be included. I hope Australia and New Zealand will be part of that leg as well, so good luck to all of you!

Yes, McCartney has been Grammy nominated, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about McCartney having a #1 worldwide hit! I'm talking about hitting the very top of the charts! I'm not saying he can't do it, because anything is possible, but in todays music climate, well we'll see won't we! I know he just hit the very top of Billboards jazz chart with Kisses On The Bottom, but that's a whole different animal, this animal is the very top of the pop charts, for McCartney that animal has been very elusive.

Since his last number 1 record was in 1982 with TOW, highly doubt we will see that happen again. I was actually quite pleased that both CHAOS and MAF both charted in the top 10 in the US and UK. The demographics for a new McCartney record are older and unless a minor miracle happens I don't see the younger music audience running out to get a new McCartney record.

I never understood the bashing of a song like "Say Say Say". IMO - song was intended to be "hit" single and not some rock classic song.

I grew up in primarily an r&b household, and that track fit in quite nicely on the urban station that my mom listened to almost exclusively.
