Lewisohn's Book

Just found this thread and what a fascinating discussion! I must get this book...as Nancy has advised me! If Paul doesn't do a concert near me "Tune In" may be my only consolation and salvation. Maybe some of us non-concertgoers could have a book club meeting and drown our sorrows together.

I've got the book & the audio book but haven't been able to find enough spare time to devote to it yet. Soon...hopefully.

Scarlett and others, Be advised that we are talking about two versions of this book: the regular book which is a single volume on Amazon and the Extended Special or Deluxe Edition which is a set of two books in a slipcase containing a great deal more material. Some of us have pre-ordered this from the Amazon UK website -- the only place where you could order it. Sounds like it will finally be shipping soon.
-
Thanks, Erik. Before I order what is the price difference?
-
About $23 for the single hardcover book in the US and 80 pounds sterling for the deluxe set out of the UK which is approx $132. I have no idea why this is not being sold by Amazon in the US as one would expect the market to be much larger.

http://www.thebeatlesbiography.com/book/the-extended-edition/ The reason why it is not being distributed in the US is due to his publisher in the US (Crown) not wanting to print it over here; possibly a business risk. Little Brown Book (UK publisher) however is taking on that charge; whether is it profitable or not. For more insight check out the massive threat over at the Steve Hoffman forums: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/beatles-biography-by-mark-lewisohn-sixth-edition.343943/

I just got an email from Amazon UK saying that the book(s) will arrive Apr. 29-May 1!

A lot of them are talking about the eBay auctions (the book went for $699 to one seller twice!) A friend of mine did a "buy it now" and sold it for $399.

Looks like mine has shipped as well! Here's the Amazon UK link if anyone is interested: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beatles-These-Years-Extended-Special/dp/1408704781/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1398113449&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=lewinsohn+tune+in

I can't justify spending the cash on this right now (already got US version) but I really want it. I tried ordering the Kindle version at the much lower price point (I'd miss out on the great packaging, but I'd get all the info at least) but Amazon UK kindle purchases don't work for US accounts.
-
Try creating a UK account. That might work.

It still won't deliver to my Kindle, which is associated with a US account.
-
I'd call Amazon customer support and see if they can help you. They are usually pretty good to deal with.

The message says that the content is for UK customers only. So I imagine it has to do with licensing and distribution rights.

Got an email--my order has been "dispatched!"
-
I am so glad I pre-ordered mine back in August/September from Amazon UK...only paid 70 quid which seems like a steal now!
-
I pre-ordered Man on the Run last night and the best of John Lennon. It has all his songs I like on there--solo songs. Had never realized that collection was available. Can't wait!
-
Went ahead and used $ from my latest check to buy the deluxe edition. It's twice as large, hopefully I enjoy it twice as much

Has anyone read through the unabridged yet? I am nearly done with the abridged version and I'm honestly trying to go slow because I don't want to get to the end. It reads like a novel, I love it! I think if I had the unabridged to read another time it'd keep me happy waiting for the release of Volume 2. Just wondering... do the other 800 pages slow down the story too much or is it still an enjoyable read?

I'm reading the unabridged version now - didn't read the shorter version so I can't directly compare them, but I will tell you that the deluxe edition is *fantastic*. I love all of the detail. I don't find it slow at all. Highly recommended
