Paul on the World Café radio show today
-
From my local station's email that just came in: "Paul McCartney. That should be enough right? We are kind of excited that Paul is here today. Even after the Beatles and Wings and solo albums and knighthood at 71 years old, Sir Paul McCartney still wants to make music and he has recorded a more-than-just-good new album called New. Sure we'll talk about it, but we'll also talk about The Beatles recording sessions, how he gets younger musicians not to be too deferential, and more." This interview was recorded last week but is just being broadcast today, mainly in Triple A stations in the US. Affiliated with NPR. For what it's worth, I just responded to the email with this: "Kind of excited? Come on, you can do better than that! The album is great; and couldn't you mention that it's been getting great reviews, all of which emphasize how vital and relevant the album sounds? You sound like you're apologizing for having him on. He's done so much important AND critically-praised work right up to today. Please promote him again when the countdown is over by actually playing him. I love your station, but somehow McCartney does not get the respect and consideration he deserves at Triple A. "

Favoritething, I could not have said it better!! Why do they feel the need to talk about the way the Beatles recorded??? They have plenty to talk about with "New" and how it was recorded "track by track". They can divide it up by Producer helping Paul. The "niche" of these stations is "new music". Why don't they interview Paul based on what they are about...new music. To borrow an rare old song of Paul's, its as "simple as that".
-
It seems like they're afraid that Paul's not cool enough for them to get enthusiastic about. You're absolutely right: new music is what they should be about, whether it's Paul or not!

Well done.

I interned at a Triple A station many moons ago -- they played more new Macca than any other station I've heard in my lifetime.

You can now listen to the show here: http://xpn.org/world-cafe/guests/item/3114-paul-mccartney The show is mostly carried on the more music-oriented NPR stations -- which, alas, doesn't include either of the NPR outlets here in San Francisco.

I'm listening now and he said "We are quite excited..."

Finally listened today. Pretty good interview, though a lot of the ground has been covered in other recent interviews.
