Fly Paul Fly - A Swans man, I see. I am a Collingwood man myself. (The Beatles of the AFL). Not a great year for the "flaming Pies". Next year. Beatles4Ever - Don't know if you are a Seinfeld man, but perhaps Epworth's description of Hosanna as "gorgeous" was akin to the doctor calling the Ugly Baby "breathtaking".
GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!! Back to Back in 2014...
Hawks supporter, huh? I guess I should say congrat...congrat... congratul... nah, it's just not coming out
LOL...ok...an "A" for effort!!!

Thoughts: (1) Interesting to read everyone's comments. We, Paul's fans, tend to be harder on him than the vast majority of critics and kinda' nit pick him to death. (2) Yes, Audie, "Alligator" is a euphemism....from the zoo want's someone he can give his alligator to...... (3) One of my favorite comments by a critic was the one in the Washington Post that stated, "Paul took risks and they paid off;...with this release, McCartney refutes the charges of superficiality that have dogged him over the years".

What I find funny is that if some of the critics said the same things people on this board have said about "New" they would have been all over those critics for hating McCartney - lol.

I was surprised and dismayed (somewhat) by your first response to the album, yankeefan7. I'd expected you'd love it. Later on, when the songs sank in you expressed much sunnier views of "New" I was gobsmacked by Oliver's (21st Century Paul) comments on this subject. I expect his too will change, upon further listenings. I can't help it I've not heard the album yet, I wanted to hear it on a good system and not through tinny little laptop speakers. My p.c. won't show videos presently, either. I don't have an I-Pod, my Amazon account got screwed up. I'm going to Starbucks and Walmart next week. Been working and couldn't get off to go before then.

OK, I have had a week listening to NEW and I like it better. All the songs. I am struggling to like ROAD, but the rest are quite enjoyable. I am just listening to them as music and songs, and not thinking about whether a song would sound great in concert or not. LOVE IN SONG from VENUS AND MARS was a great song, but not necessarily a good song to play in concert.

This really isn't a track-by-track assessment. (Love the album.) I just have one teensy tiny wish: That before "Hosanna" was finalized, Paul had said to Ethan Johns, 'Can I have a do-over on the first two or three lines of this song? I'd like to get a take without this little frog in my throat'. But, I still like the song. I'ts grown on me and fits very well into the album; and I do like the updated digital Beatle-esque psychedelia thrown into the mix!

just listened and knocked out my thoughts to contribute here! Save Us ? Awesome riff, great rocker, great song, great album opener. Great great great. Alligator - Flow Macca, work it, and jam out that loud ass guitar. Great music and cool lyrics, all I can say. One of my favs. On My Way to Work - decent , not a humungous fan. Queenie Eye ? this song rocks and has that McCartney jam bounce. I dig, nice rock singing on it. Dogs and bitched hunt for fame. Early Days ? very pretty and meaningful. I tend to skip it though honestly. New ? song of the year IMO, love it. Appreciate ? Yeah man, love the beat and the downlow melody, very sinister and dare I say.. shnazzy. Appreciate. Great lyrics for such a jammy jam. Everybody Out There ? fun party song, well done, some good guitar bits Hosanna ? this is a deep spiritual song IMO, I kind of like it. It requires smoking herb to really get it IMO. I had to. I Can Bet ? love this song, very what I?m hoping for with Paul. Great instrumentation and tight rhythm, jammy. Cool lyrics Looking At Her ? take a look at the beauty, love this song. Another great low down vocal, and then that badass techno blast. Great stuff. Road ? I like how the song builds, but not a fav. Not sure why. Love the album.

I have and thanks oobs, they are great, I particularly like Get Me Out of Here love that guitar part, thats a cool song that I think a lot could be done with, love the production on it, and on Paul's voice.

Haven't heard it enough times to rate yet, but I really like it overall. Only ones that didn't do much for me yet are all at the end - Road and the bonus and hidden track.

I love how it sounds...very nice finish to the proper album. Not sure it's quite the epic I think they intended it to be, but it's creative and really quite nice. IMO

Of all Pauls vast output as a solo artist , only two of his songs have ever suceeded in bringing me to the edge of tears," too much rain" and now, " scared" . Raw emotion as we , the listener, are privy to an intimate moment as paul, hesitant and uncertain as to how the declaration of the depth of his feelings for Nancy will be received by her, sings this beautiful ballad as if running it past us as one would a close friend before presenting it to Nancy ." What do think,...will she like it ? Is it too........ ? What if...........? paul I for one just love it. I,ll never get to tell you face to face , but, thank you so much for sharing your god given talent with us .

For me it was Jenny Wren. So far Scared might be my least favorite of the new songs. Might grow on me though.
-
I really love Scared but what's the point of it being the hidden track. They are usually some little ditty or bit of a jam or guitar riffing, etc not a fully complete song.

On my way to work, I bought a magazine Inside a pretty girl liked to water ski She came from Chichester to study history She had removed her clothes for the likes of me Can someone tell me if Paul is trying to convey some kind of message here? I can't figure out if he's singing this in a positive way, negative way or just indifferent. Is he condoning the sexualisation of women in magazines or is he against it? Or maybe it's just an observation with no opinion attached. Thoughts?

Girls from Sussex are loose??.. (But intelligent!) No only joking, I think its just a vivid memory from those Early Days. Remember the times, every lad would have had a quick sneak. I don't think he's condoning any sexualisation of women just an observation. I actually find the lyric quite funny and wonder why Chichester??

I'm just guessing here, but I would imagine that, given the detail, it's based on a particular vivid memory from when he was younger. I don't think there is any kind of judgement being made about it, but there's certainly an admission that he enjoyed the picture. Paul seems to be reminiscing about his younger years and pictures of women for men's enjoyment were commonplace in mainstream media in the sixties, much more than today - even though it's not exactly rare in 2013. Either way, it's no secret that Paul enjoys the female form. I think it's just a descriptive story and that's part of it.

I can't imagine Paul would go out of his way to condone the sexualisation of women
-
He's just being a normal red-blooded (hetero) Northern male. Not that there's anything wrong with not being straight.

I interpret total humbleness in that line ("...for the likes of me.")
