Concert For George--Your Thoughts?
-
It's one of my favorite shows, ever. I play it sometimes when I don't want to think and just want to enjoy it for the music and the heart behind the people involved showing their love for George. I like that people didn't make any long speeches or say too much. The music said it all for me. I think it's a masterpiece.

I'll have to dust off my All Things Must Pass CD...been hooked on the 'Concert for George Harrison' version of Wah Wah and I'm temporarily hooked, despite readily acknowledging it's far from his best work (also been hooked on I'll See You In My Dream...but obviously that's not a George song)

Rich, There's a pretty good remastered version available right now that has a colored picture on the front and some "bonus" tracks. It's still the "wall of sound" Spector mix, but a bit cleaner. ATMP was my first CD ever I won it on a radio station back in '86 or so. I'll have to dig that one out too and compare it to the new one.

Would have loved to hear Paul sing better George songs - Wah-Wah, Living in the Material World, Apple Scruffs, Isnt it a Pity would have been perfect, especially with their heartfelt memories of the Beatles . For You Blue & All Things Must Pass are just plain boring!

Erik in NJ:
Hi Giri! Sorry for my delayed reply....long and busy weekend I looked at Anoushka's touring schedule and I think she plays closer to you than to me in the near future! I'd love to see her live and perhaps chat a bit. If your friend is in touch with her I'd strongly recommend Birdland in NYC and maybe Trumpets in NJ as suitable venues. My friend Stanley Jordan usually plays at Iridium (and Trumpets from time to time), but I think Birdland is much nicer than Iridium. There's also Dizzy's club but I haven't been there yet. Drop me a PM if you'd like to chat more about this. Best, Erik
That is okay Erik. I don't know how often my friend talks to Anouska. I only talk to him on Facebook and have seen him about three times. He lives in India and teaches in Chicago also. I'll tell him about the Birdland and Trumpets. I will drop you a pm. I saw a great tabla player this past weekend,Zakir Hussain. You should check him out when he comes to Madison Square Garden. Steve Smith the former drummer for Journey was there playing drums and he played Indian musc on drums which was fabulous. I got to meet and take a photo with steve and meet Zakir as well. They are both nice guys.
