WixRocks!:
The original announcement made it sound like Newman was exclusively for Japan however, I have a feeling that has changed. He couldn't have been cheap to make, plus there is a whole new video...he'll probably be added onto the US tour now with "Appreciate", hopefully it doesn't ruin any chances of hearing "Early Days".
I know I thought about this too! I really really hope Early Days isn't effected by this..
But we don't even know if Early Days was going to be in the setlist, do we? I hope we get both!
We don't know, but I think both would go over well here. He doesn't usually go above four new songs in the set, though, so I don't know if he'd be willing to cut two others out to make room.
Yeah we don't know. But I was thinking that Appreciate was going to be in the Japan setlist since Newman and the music video were released like a day or two before the Japan shows were actually supposed to happen. I was thinking that maybe Appreciate was going to be used then and only for Japan. And then I thought he was going to do something similar for Early Days when he hits the U.S. I was thinking he was going to release the Early Days music video like right before the Lubbock show and then have that song for the U.S shows making Early Days like "our surprise song." I just hope now that IF this were to happen, nothing changes and that we get Early Days, cause IMO, I would rather have Early Days than Appreciate if we only had one. I also hope he doesn't take anything out that he already has been playing. The NEW songs flow so perfectly. Hopefully he is doing something NEW for the first time and ditching his typical "4 new songs" live habit and instead adding 5 or 6 NEW songs.

Another idea: similar to the tour where he had the costumed people roaming the stage to Fireman music prior to the show, maybe the plan was for Newman the robot to come onstage with "Appreciate" as background music (the recorded track, or even a remix) prior to Paul and the band making their entrance.

Works for me -- anything that reminds people that the man still makes outstanding music is always a + in my book.

That's what I also thought! I originally thought Newman was going to be like the pre show DJ. If that would be correct. Then the original plan could still work since it technically isn't in the setlist and Early Days would still make it. That would be cool. Using Newman as your idea or having him doing something with the pre show, that would really confuse the audience (in a good way) and then have the pre show Newman DJ be used as symbolism of the future until Paul arrives onstage.

I found a website that shows some stills from the upcoming "Early Days" vid. I'm just not so sure about posting the link here, because I'm afraid the link will be taken down.
-
Post it & then they can remove it if need be. Audi posted a couple of pics already.
-
I think he'll announce his retirement from touring after Candlestick just like the Beatles did.

I've been thinking the same.

Yeah...a couple of those are different. I thought early days was Early Beatles. Not early in the history of music!

I'm wondering the same, especially after what happened last week. I don't think he will quite give it up, I just think he will only do dates now and then, not as many dates.

That was possibly a conscious decision to avoid fusing a Beatle undertone to the video. The single "New" is the most blatantly Beatley thing Paul has ever done in his solo career, and it did not excite radio at all. But it's best to reserve judgment sicne we haven't seen the actual thing yet, and these stills may be just the "performance" shots. There may be other story-line shots that might feature The Fab Four-era of Paul's life.

I don't think Paul is the type to announce retirement. Most who have done that in the past, well are touring now. And about "what happened", he got sick, many performers get sick on the road, and cancel and postpone shows. Not uncommon.

And also, I feel that if Paul were ever to retire completely from touring, he'd say so outright.

My Brave Face was pretty Beatley! But it was fresh and NEW in 1989! I think, at this point, everyone has figured out he was in the Beatles!

Maybe. But to your point, I don't think people care anymore about him producing Beatley music, since they can go see him in concert and he will do a Beatles show.

Based on Paul's responses to previous retirement questions over the recent years, I think he still enjoys it to the point where a retirement announcement isn't something he'd do. I think he'd either just stop, without an announcement, or as mentioned, perhaps just do a show here and there rather than tour.

I expect you may be right about the video.
