Set List critique

WixRocks!:
I've Had Enough is probably the only track that would survive the setlist these days. Pretty much anything else from that album would send 'em to the concessions....and I love that album!
It really rocked live!
-
And I would loooove to hear No Values and/or Not Such A Bad Boy in the setlist (with Rickenbacker of course). THAT would be a knockout. Not gonna happen of course - not even counting that the Ricky has left the building and ain't never coming back

How I would love that thought. "No Values" rocks, I absolutely love that song and it would sound great live, but I suppose it's just a dream

Quit complaining. He's probably only got 3 more touring years left, IMO. The setlist isn't gonna change much. Paul has every right to sing whatever the hell he wants to onstage. He just loves what he does. If you don't like the show don't pay for the tickets and set yourself up for disappointment. lol and don't complain either. He's never gonna hear you.
This is a discussion board & the people are discussing the setlist. The title of this thread is setlist CRITQUE. Of course he will do what he wants. DUH. They were all just talking about the ratio of Beatles songs to the rest of Paul's career. Nothin wrong with that. I was at a show this year & loved most every minute of it. But yeah...I wish he would sing songs from his entire career. One thing has nothing to do with the other.
Clip below is as close as we will get to hear live version of "Dear Boy", awesome cover.
OMG! YES! I have a DVd of his around here somewhere...must find it. Very nice.
He really nails it!! Boy, if only Paul could play little theaters like that, we'd be much more likely to hear that kind of thing. He's just too friggin' famous!

Did you listen to any of his other songs? Backseat of My Car

I've Had Enough screams of concert opener. And time to give the live treatment to songs from Back To The Egg.
-
Hmm...Back To The Egg...."Getting Closer" is definitely worthy. "Old Siam Sir" could do it, but he can't sing that anymore.

I love both these songs, but Paul seems pretty determined to forget that Broad Street ever happened. He never even plays No More Lonely Nights, which was one of his last real hit singles and one of the few '80s tunes audiences might recognize.

You may have nailed it. The 80s were not too kind to McCartney, so it may be he just wants to forget that period. As to why he won't play songs from 1988-2010, well it is probably as simple as those works were just not that popular. They were known at the current time, but you don't ever hear My Brave Face or Hope Of Deliverance on the radio. Or anywhere. Same with Fine Line or any of the more recent songs he wrote. They are just not that popular. I suspect the Rolling Stones don't play songs from Bridges to Babylon in their current set list. Maybe I am wrong.

Very true. That one would probably be the most recognized track that isn't a duet. Paul misses so many opportunities to bring out this great music. I get tired of thinking about it. For what it's worth, I remember reading that "No More Lonely Nights" was one of the songs rehearsed in 2005 for the US tour, but Paul wasn't pleased with his vocals.

Then that's that. His vocals are not going to improve for that one.

When I saw the Stones last year, the most recent song they played was "You Got Me Rocking" from 1994's "Voodoo Lounge".

And sadly they are thought of as a "oldies" act.

Actually, scratch that... They played a couple of new songs: "Doom and Gloom" and "One More Shot," both recorded in 2012.

So is it true that Paul really did rehearse "No More Lonely Nights" in the past 10 years or so for possible inclusion on the set list? That would be amazing to hear - even a rough bootleg of a rehearsal. I wish Broad Street outtakes were available - they certainly filmed more of the live band warehouse scene than what made it into the movie. For starters, they recorded a new version of Band On The Run with Ringo on drums - it has never come out but man would love to hear that - a 1983 era Paul singing Band On The Run would have been amazing. And such a shame he didn't tour in the early 80s when he was in his early 40s with tremendous vocal power. Can you imagine that?

We can dream about coulda-shoulda-woulda scenarios till the cows come home. But after John was killed, I'm pretty sure the last thing Paul wanted to do was go out on the road. He hunkered down for a while, and understandably so.

It's a new LEG! Not a new tour. Quit complaining you all know it's not going to change. Shows on a second leg hardly ever change. Plus this set was only used in six shows in Japan. C'mon really.. Be a little positive for a change really. Paul wants to play Beatles simply because the audience likes them therefore he's going to keep playing them. Plus they keep the tour reviews high. A lot of people complaining about many artists only playing solo hits and that, of course keeps their reviews in the negative category. I believe him keeping the Beatles songs in the set have sustained his position in the being a great artist. I don't know if you're following me.. I do wish people would clap for songs like LWTMS which was a huge hit..
Agreed. I'm not saying folks can't have their opinions etc but what many don't realize, and I've been trying to explain for years on here, is that it's likely that 90% of people going to these shows have NEVER seen Paul live before, or if they have may not have had the chance to see him in many years, (example my mom seeing him finally for the first time in 2011 after not seeing him since he was with The Beatles in 1964) so this set is NEW to them. Not everybody has had the chance to see Paul live as many times as some have. Every Paul show I've been to, I have always been sitting around folks that were experiencing their first Paul concert and were having the time of their lives, that's what matters!
Absolutely. Has been my experience too, with the exception of maybe 50-100 people, the majority are seeing him for the first time, and maybe a second. There are only a handful who see him multiple times. And still for every song that Paul does that is classic there were some left out that those newcomers want to hear. I suspect that even if he did change things too much the complaints would come out then also. Everyone has their own personal favorites. He just chooses, for the most part to do what he thinks are the majority favorites and some he wants to do. However, as a small bone to the fans, it can't hurt him to at least insert a song from each decade. He's pretty much ignored the past 30 years except what is 'new' at the time. I can't figure that omission out at all.
Exactly. Throw a bone to the people who are attending your concerts and have faithfully bought you new releases the last few decades. I mean if he does 23-24 Beatle songs and the obligatory BOTR songs, can't he at least give us a few songs from his solo work he has not done before.

I agree totally. Never understood why "Hope and Deliverance" was only done once in awhile. As for "My Brave Face", I always liked the song and thought it sounded very "Beatleish" plus it has not been done since 1989 tour.
