Looking for early Beatles quote about retiring
-
I know I've seen a quote somewhere where one of the Beatles (I think it's Paul) says something about how weird it would be to still be writing songs at either 30 or 40. Has anyone seen it, and if you have, can you post a link to it? Thanks!

I know he said something about that in 1964, but also around 1974, in "One Hand Clapping," where he acknowledges that he once said that, but now thinks he'll continue "until I drop"!

I *just* saw this and now I am blanking. But it was in 64 and he talked about how they wouldn't be playing rock at 40 (It'd be silly) but maybe they'd still be writing. I think it was included in this piece about him doing Press to Play:

The Beatles talk about how they see the future towards the end of this extract from The Mersea Sound, in 1963.

Paul at the end of the Mersey Sound video?that's IT!!!! I'm going to have to watch One Hand Clapping too to see how Paul reflects on that statement a decade later. Thanks again--I wanted it for an article opening and I was looking everywhere for it!

Yes, that was what I was thinking, too. So it's from 1963, not 1964. Classic! Glad Kestrel remembered that one!

Also check out Paul's first solo TV appearance on The David Frost Show of 1964...

That is amazing where David says something about Paul retiring in the year 2010! Little did they know!

Thanks so much for your help! This is the article I needed it for (my first published piece outside of my own blog) and I think it really helped start off the article just right: http://www.rebeatmag.com/when-im-72-paul-mccartney-redefines-what-it-means-to-be-a-veteran-rocker/

Good article! Just one question and a "correction." When did Paul ever sing From Me To You in concert as a solo artist? Also, it was a truck, not a bus that they used for the Times Square gig.
