Why hasn't Paul made any comments about The Art of McCartney
-
I don't expect too much of a tribute album, especially not from a Paul McCartney one, who is as good a performer, as he is a songwriter. I have a bunch of tribute albums in my record collection, some more artistic successful than others but I rarely play them as often as the originals anyway.
-
I don't really expect an artist to talk about a tribute album to himself, even if his band is involved. I can't really think of a case where that has happened, though there could be some. Speaking of his band, it must have been weird for them to record McCartney songs without Paul coming back and overdubbing his parts on top of theirs at all. Not that he does that all the time, but some of the time anyway.

Hendrix Ibsen:
I'm one of those who actually love Dylan's croaking, it sends shivers up my spine. I find it soulful, earhtly, an old man's life experienced voice. I also love "Early Days" on "New", the cracked voice. I think he still makes great records, just like McCartney.
Difference is IMO is that you can understand McCartney, Dylan mumbles.

Yeah, but they're kind of distinctive in their own way, McCartney is the king of pop melody, Dylan is more like a folk trubadour. I don't think you can really compare. It's even worse than the John vs. Paul "competition".

I liked this tribute CD. Not sure what else can be done. Except not doing one.

He did comment on it, during the 'Hope For The Future' UK promotion back in November, on Radcliffe and Maconie, BBC Radio 6. He did a Dylan impression on 'Things We Said Today', adds "if I will start singing like that they shoot me!", and also explained why he isn't playing on the album himself.
Here, dug up the actual quote for you guys. From an interview by Georgie Rogers, broadcast on 20 November 2014 at Radcliffe and Maconie, BBC Radio 6: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0kMmOfkvkFV "He has done a great job, really, I must say, he's persuaded some amazing people to do it. What I've heard is great. [..] The producer got a lot of great people to do it, so I'm just honoured". So not true at all he never commented on it.

Thanks for finding that!

Has he been asked about it? It would be awkward to bring it up yourself

That's cool! And many here make a good point. Unless he is asked, what's he going to say? "Have you heard about my tribute CD to commemorate how great I am?"

Thank you for sharing this! I was not aware of this interview Rodrigo

It's just a collection of covers. Paul's been having covers of his songs done since The Beatles started. Thousands of them. I don't know why he'd want to talk about them, except to say how flattering it is. But he's a songwriter, that's what he does, whether he records them or other people record them. It's his business.
