Is "your" Macca all good or all bad?
-
What I like most about him is probably his down-to-earthiness, I suppose. The lines in his songs that aren't quite right grammatically, but probably represent the way most of us talk and think is what makes them stand out and work. Yes, he is a talent, and yes he's "on" much of the time, but he's a performer. The public will never get that piece of him that is the real him that his friends and family know. This is not a revelation. What think ye? Diverse opinions welcomed.

McCartney on the downside... I have sometimes wished he was more uncompromising artistic, that he cared less about being popular. That musician Paul was more progressive.
-
McCartney on the upside... I've been a fan since I was a kid and I'm still.
-
This is a can of worms you've opened! Mostly I love the way Paul is, but he drives me crazy sometimes because his shows are hardly changed in the past 13 years. I know he panders to the "average" fan who wants to hear all the Beatles hits, but Dear God, he needs to wake up! (before it's too late) I won't be spending $1500 again for the VIP package. (I've "only" done that twice) I'll just get a good seat for close to $300.

Live Paul is the 14 year old in him that is afraid of not being the most popular in class, therefore he comes with all the usual jokes which he knows will get Everyone to laugh.

He's not gonna sell out stadiums by playing "unpopular" music. He saves that for his recording projects, and he still gives us a little of it in his concerts. I'd love to see an "all Fireman" or "all Kisses" concert, but if he's not gonna do it, I'm fine with that.
-
Well, I don't think it is mandatory to sell out stadiums, nor for McCartney, but if he enjoys it... he has The Songs.
-
But... for myself, I'd be more than happy in a sweaty club... "Tug of War" and "Pipes of Peace" albums live...
-
As you say...I think he is "on" too much. He is the bearer of the Beatles flag. He sells his solo career short...I wish he knew just how good his solo stuff is. And if he had continued playing more of his solo stuff, people would know it by now. Therefore he'd still be selling out venues.
-
On the upside, he still means well. On the downside, he's just too friggin' rich now. He's in that interminable bubble.

I'm with you there Oobu, wish he'd sell his latest CD's at shows! However, hopefully he is enjoying his life as much as possible, these days! He is a one of a kind, kind, thoughtful and immensely talented individual. The world is a better place for having Paul as a public role model for so many good causes and all of the music!

Hope he gets enough private life in that bubble! He certainly deserves it!!

I don't know if deserves is a word I would use. This planet is a bit unbalanced. But I like music and hope that he can continue, a talent may not necessarily retire, in the liner notes for "New" he say something like We don't work music, we play it, as if it's just something he does, regardless of what else is happening.

He does write songs and plays regardless of what else is happening. That's what songwriters and musicians do. What is wrong with that, to borrow a line from "Silly Love Songs"?

Nothing wrong with that. Maybe I'm just used the wrong words... I approve and think it's a superb way of doing it.

Oh, I get your meaning now. You know, I've often wondered how some of them CAN continue to play. I suppose none of the ones who continue on have arthritis in their hands. That would tend to slow them way down, at the very least.

Audi said it. He is too rich. Nothing wrong with money. But I don't feel bad for him or any musician who may have to live on $300 million to be an artist who plays their more obscure material than to be a billionaire who plays it safe. Instead of recording with Kanye, do an arena tour that has solo material as the centerpiece of the tour. Take RISKS like that. On the upside, he is an amazing entertainer who is fun to see in concert.

I don't get why doing a different sort of tour with more solo material would have to be instead of recording with Kanye. He can revamp his tours and set list regardless of whom he records with. Why do some people use everything as an excuse to bash the Kanye collaborations?

It wasn't bashing, it was merely talking about other things he can do to be "relevant." Why can't some people not handle anything when it comes to not glorifying Paul's Kanye collaborations?
