He's all about the easy applause.
The point is though...
And then trying to bring it over to the US - and dropping it - instead of playing it Europe: his last wide top 10-20 hit in the countries over here. Gold in Germany. The only song you wil hear on "popular" radio in a big part of Europe. Once again a baffling way of deciding. The story goes that it went great in Brazil (I was lucky to attend the first 3 Out There concerts) but when it came to Orlando in the good ole USA Paul was pissed at the lukewarm response and said "**** it, let's replace it with "Seen a Face" and be done with it".
If it wasn't for the money, I'm not sure he would be performing over in the U.S. as much. Much more fickle audience and crowds are notorious for sitting on their hands. I was in the 21st row in Fargo and everyone behind me was sitting. Crowds everywhere else are much better. I get the feeling that American fans have much shorter attention spans. They aren't willing to even give the new stuff a chance.
Well this American was standing and singing along to "Figure Of Eight" when he opened with it in 1989 - lol

Wow, Mr. McCartney is being a bit of a diva if that was truly his reaction. OMG, how dare the audience not go "crazy" after every song he sings - lol.

I said something similar a year ago here and a crazy American woman jumped on my throat so be careful lol

I think this depends on the specific crowd and the nature of the song. "My Valentine" has served as a mass exodus to other parts of the arena every time I've heard it played. However, the songs from NEW last summer all got great results and had people on their feet, enjoying and clapping along, even singing in some cases! Look at how long "Dance Tonight" stayed in the show, and that was well received every night. However, the fireman music...not so much...
-
I hope he will open some of the UK/EU gigs with Can't Buy Me Love. Perhaps that will happen in London and Amsterdam, as there will be two concerts in each city.
-
Tomorrow night will be very telling to see if it stays as opener or not since he's playing totally new territory, he could do anything he wants. But if he keeps "Can't Buy Me Love" as opener, I think that's a good sign it's the song he wants on the majority of the tour.
-
If he MUST open with a Beatlemania number, "Can't Buy Me Love" definitely has my vote.

I agree, it packs some punch!

But Brian needs to play electric. Needs more teeth, and his acoustic diminishes some of that "punch."

Wow. He plays acoustic on that?? He should play electric fer sher!!

I think I might be wrong. I definitely hear an acoustic, but I think it's Wix playing it.

Can't buy me love or eight days a week for opener. Time to forget about MMT! Also seen that Get Back hasn't been done on this tour leg, maybe consigned to the setlist scrapheap?!

I've always thought MMT was a really weak opener. It's just not that great live. Much as I'd prefer him to open with, say, "The World Tonight," if he must open with a Beatles song there are dozens of better choices, "Can't Buy Me Love" definitely being one of them.

But if he had a live horn section, MMT could be fabulous.

I agree with you although I always thought "That Was Me" would be very good opener or maybe I will be a dreamer and hope he would open with "I Can Bet" - lol
-
"The World Tonight" or "So Glad To See You Here" would be great openers. "I Want To Hold Your Hand" would also be amazing.

Hey, or why not just open with "Soily"?
