"Imagine" Sung for Pope
-
It's a good thing she didn't sing George's Awaiting On You All.

SusyLuvsPaul:
Pop singer Shakira sang John Lennon's "Imagine" before Pope Francis at the United Nations General Assembly.
I just watched and listened to it for the first time. It definitely made my eyes water.

Pope Francis told the world tonight to "pray for him." If they didn't believe in religion to send him "good thoughts" something like that. He wants to get across his message of compassion, hope, service to others , love, and you don't have to be religious to do good deeds. Imagine. We are all one.
I love this Pope because of these types of statements, he has a spiritual heart and intention God bless all of us!

Really !! Can you "imagine" !! What a disaster. the Pope messed up...he met secretly with the notorious Kim Davis, and some charge he undid all his efforts here to glorify himself and the Church and be diplomatic, by meeting with her. She's the one who refused to issue marriage licenses to gay people, and is bigoted and feels hate and total intolerance towards gays. Some claim Pope Francis is "subtly homophobic" and that's been drilled into him, along with not wanting birth control and being against pro-Choice. He's not as perfect as you'd think. Course I never believed we need a middleman between us and God. Not being Catholic. St. Paul certainly expressed profound brilliant insights, thanks so much for that Sur Steven (and St. Paul, I almost wrote "Sir Paul" LOL)!

Awww come on now. Let's not start up. No one ever said the pope was perfect, and none of us know why he met her. Jesus himself was looked at quite harshly for meeting and eating with and drinking with and hanging out with certain people. The pope is not supposed to just do things that make YOU feel good, he is supposed to challenge us all, which is what true Christianity does, and what we should do with each other. St. Matthew, being a tax collector, was such a person and Jesus went to his house and this scandalized the other apostles. Good! So RELAX and enjoy your Paul McCartney songs.

I was thinking he went to talk some sense into that women. It's all about love and not hate! This is the Peace and Love Pope!

It sounds like she's exactly the kind of person he should talk to.

Yes...if he's trying to persuade her to become tolerant and loving towards gay people...maybe that's what he sought to achieve?

Pope Francis also repeatedly emphasized abiding by The Golden Rule. Which I do all the time. If the whole world did it, we would all live in peace and love.

EZEKIEL 33: 31And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. (their own desires) 32And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not. 33And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

The underlying and overseeing theme of this thread is supernatural. I think it's collective thoughts and verses have chosen...us all.

Except for those crazy people who want death and destruction done unto them.

This has been an interesting read, I have often wondered what his meaning is in the song Imagine. I do hope John was a Christian because that means he is in heaven right now.
-
John Lennon could be acerbic and witty and funny and harsh and would say things to make people uncomfortable and get them out of their comfort zone. He was a seeker, he questioned things. Christians should questions things, even the teachings of whatever church they belong to. That is not a sign of despair or faithlessness. It shows we are what God made us to be: thinking, rational creatures. Whatever John's beliefs, I believe he is fine, because he had goodness in him.

He will throw a lightning bolt through your heart.

"You have a right to your point of view" (line from a "Pie" Paul song, from Flaming Pie album). God or the Ultimate or whatever you wish to call it does want us to "question things" and to interpret the Bible originally and let it inspire novel thoughts and imaginings, but then, that's my point of view--many or most Christians where I hail from expect you to take the Bible literally as the Only Eternal Truth--that every word in it is true and that the common accepted way of interpreting it is "the only way." Ministers, preachers are expected to guide us in Bible reading. I chafe at that and prefer to come up with my own interpretations. By the way, Mr. Martinez, I didn't mean to ruffle feathers in my rather blunt words about the Pope--doubtless I was probably subconsciously influenced by reading "Angela's Ashes" by Irishman Frank McCourt, in which he expounded on the abject misery of his parents' having way too many kids they could not adequately support. He said the Church kept wanting Irish families to have more and more kids and not use birth control so there'd be more and more Catholics--no matter how poor the family and resulting hardships, which he said the Church didn't help with financially or practically. McCourt was deeply bitter about having to see his mother suffer, along with his siblings. His father had a problem with "the drink" and drank away his meager paychecks. Probably a common problem there. Also you can't help but think about the shocking, reprehensible reality of the plethora of pedophile priests. But many would say all that doesn't detract too much from the goodness of Pope Francis and his message. Or not at all. Many, many priests are wonderful, caring, helpful people. Just wonderful.

As a Christian I am one of those who believe the Bible is God's word of truth to eternity and do take it literally. And again interesting thread.

I worship God, not the bible. Jesus never said "Only the bible hold's God's truth." As a Catholic Christian I look to the bible for guidance, but I look to other sources too. Unquestioning blind faith leads people to eventually fly airplanes into buildings. I have no use for that. I listen and read and question and make sure what is being presented is balanced and reasonable. God gave me a mind with which to reason, question, and ponder. And make a free will decision. FAITH and REASON. That's what I'm into!
