__________________________________________ Yankeefan, Great minds think alike...I went checking here too to see if my hopeful theory (Paul and Band doing a couple of the great Tug of War songs) had any life. I love the guy but it is such a shame. Macca puts Temporary Secretary in the Setlist, continues to try to sing Maybe I'm Amazed when it is clearly out of his range, and tonight he does Four Five Seconds. In the meantime he has never done Take It Away, The Pound is Sinking, Wanderlust and Tug of War (the song) in concert. What is wrong with this picture!! Like you, I know he and his band could at least do Take It Away. You wonder if anyone has any influence over him. You would think he would want to get some publicity for Tug of War. Doesn't he realize how good these songs are and they have never been played live.

I hear you loud and clear. I know a lot of people on this board love "Temporary Secretary" but I think it is garbage. We all know "Maybe I'm Amazed" is one of his best songs ever but who wants to hear it when he for the most part he sounds awful doing it. Mr. McCartney needs some "tough" love from his family and or band and retire this song or change the arrangement. I would also add "My Valentine" into the SMH category. I truly understand he loves his wife and wants to dedicate a song to hear but from what I have heard constantly on this board is that it is a "bathroom break song" at every show. If he wants to do a song for her, pick something else and dedicate it to her. The TOW songs you mention are great and we both agreed that "Take It Away" is in his range and my goodness it was the 2nd single from TOW. I really believe he does not have a very high opinion of his solo work and I think he believes the only songs his audience will like are Beatle and or Wings songs. Unfortunately, I think the hope of seeing some decent amount of change and reflection of his 35 yr solo career is over. Mr. McCartney is very comfortable making huge amounts of money and tweaking the setlist a little bit with a different Beatle/Wings song. The really sad thing IMO is that on the sad day Mr. McCartney is no longer living the great songs he has written from 1980-2015 will never be appreciated by the general public.

I think your comment above about My Valentine being a break song, explains your next comment...
I think he believes the only songs his audience will like are Beatle and or Wings songs.
When he does put a non-Beatles or Wings song into the set, and it gets a "bathroom break" reaction, don't think that he doesn't notice. Many of the songs from "Tug" that we are talking about might also get the same reaction, even though we here may love them. I still think he leaves My Valentine in because he wrote it for Nancy, so until he writes another ballad for her, that one stays, no matter the reaction. And to get back to Columbus specifically, I also heard that he did Looking For Changes at soundcheck, but that is all I know.

Exciting, nice to see McCartney follows the trend of playing the songs from the Archive Releases he's promoting and did 'Here Today' tonight!
-
He has NFI. He's still flogging the songs from NEW though! Time for the NEW songs to get ditched.

A fan was called up onstage last night and took a selfie with Paul: https://instagram.com/p/8zdEcEroeR/

Ha ha!! That is funny! For me, Four Five Seconds is nothing to get excited about. Nor is Temporary Secretary. Since it was rehearsed, and has a universal theme, why not keep Looking For Changes in the set? Even if just for this short leg of the tour?? Makes no bleedin' sense.

Re-learning it probably was too taxing for him. So one attempt - then to the soundcheck graveyard to wallow in relative obscurity.

Any soundcheck report?

____________________________________________________________ Yankeefan, Everything you said is so true. I think the sad truth is that the 73 yr. old Paul is just so comfortable going out and performing pretty much the same songs. He is a perfectionist so by doing the same songs, the chances of not doing them well is minimal. It takes some work to change the setlist like Bruce Springsteen or Dylan does and Paul doesn't appear to be willing to do it. If I were Paul's children (and they are now of course in their 30's or whatever) I would say to their Dad something like this: Dad, you have great songs that you have never played live. You need to play to the part of the audience who have loved the music of your entire career...your really true fans. If some people take bathroom breaks, so be it. If some people don't seem to recognize the song, so be it. Play it anyway because there is a pretty substantial part of the audience that will be thrilled. On top of that, you can play what you want. This is your legacy. You have just released new remasters of Tug of War and Pipes of Peace. Tug of War has 4 or 5 songs alone that are on the same level as your Beatle songs and you are just playing Here Today. Play them Dad, please. It might take some rehearsing but in the end you will be thrilled to play them for yourself and your Band will be thrilled as well. Tug of War was a huge hit. If you play songs like Take it Away, The Pound is Sinking, Wanderlust, Tug of War, Ballroom Dancing, Someone Who Cares etc...many in the audience will remember them. And for those who don't they may even go out and buy the Tug of War CD after hearing them." That is what I would say. But for Paul to do this, he's got to get the Band together and do some rehearsing. That is the first step. And if the first couple of times, you flub a line or miss a chord, it will be no big deal. People will be so thrilled to hear them, they will only be positive. Your's absolutely right Yankeefan, if he never plays some of these great songs, the general public will never appreciate Macca's solo career.

Hehe, glad you liked it. Indeed.. Songs like that are rehearsed, probably soundcheck staples from now on! And once again stays a rarity for a millionaire gala crowd.

"Many of the songs from "Tug" that we are talking about might also get the same reaction, even though we here may love them" Since "Take It Away" is a upbeat and catchy song IMO, even if people did not recognize it I don't think they would head to the exits - lol

"And for those who don't they may even go out and buy the Tug of War CD after hearing them." " Exactly, he should treat these re-issues like he does a record like "New" and actually try promoting them - what a novel concept - lol. "Play them Dad, please. It might take some rehearsing but in the end you will be thrilled to play them for yourself and your Band will be thrilled as well. " Think about it. McCartney's children with Linda are in their late 30's (James) and mid 40's (Mary & Stella). The music they probably remember the most growing up is the solo stuff. Sure they understand their father's legacy but I bet they really like the stuff he did when they were living at home with him. As for the band, I am quite sure they would love to play more different songs and rehearsing would not bother them one bit. I am sure they may mention they like a song or two that he has not played but tough for them to be really aggressive about asking the boss to make changes.

Good point. At least at those, you have a better chance of hearing something different.
