Yeah maybe if we all tweeted him every day for a year he might play something from the '80s besides Here Today!

Ian_1001:
It's a shame he always neglects his solo career and sticks to the same formula (60% Beatles 30% Wings, the tributes to John and George plus a few token songs from the latest album).
The irony of course is that he only recorded as a Beatle for about 8 years, a similar length of time with Wings...........and 35 years as a solo artist !!!

Yep, over three decades as a solo artist and his show maybe has 4-5 songs from that time. I don't even count "Here Today" because it would not be done if it was not a tribute to Mr. Lennon. At this point, I would be happy with 50% (Beatles), 25% (Wings) and 25% (Solo). Let's say he does 36 songs in a night, that would break down to 18 Beatles, 9 Wings and 9 Solo. Give me the following solo songs and I would be ecstatic. 1) Take It Away 2) Promise To Your Girl 3) Hope of Deliverance 4) That Was Me 5) House of Wax 6) I Can Bet 7) Dance Til We're High Little Willow 9) My Brave Face

I was checking the current setlist of the Out There Tour and I found two big surprises. First of all, 'Mull Of Kintyre'. Really? is he playing it? I mean, is the original version or is a kind of live reedition? A wonderful song, a kind of national anthem And second... 'Temporary Secretary'??????? What is that? I make the same question, is he playing it in a normal way? I don't understand, however it's a big surprise! Maybe the prime question would be: Does Paul change the setlist in every concert? perhaps, 'Temporary Secretary' will be part of the next concert (today or tomorrow in Canada) and nothing else. The same for 'Mull'.
Does Paul change the set list every concert?? You are joking, right???
not entirely, but maybe some songs

Yeah, maybe some songs.

I'm not talking about changing the whole setlist, of course. But if Paul plays 'Mull' exclusively in Canada, that means he can (and he does it) change it. That was my point

You asked if Paul changes his set list every concert. That is very different from playing "Mull" exclusively in certain Cities in Canada.

No, I asked if Paul does a thing like that (adding a song or songs for a special occasion) very often.

Maybe the prime question would be: Does Paul change the setlist in every concert? perhaps, 'Temporary Secretary' will be part of the next concert (today or tomorrow in Canada) and nothing else. The same for 'Mull' I asked if 'Temporary Secretary' is there as part of a special occasion, and I asked before people told me that Paul plays 'Mull Of Kintyre' every time he goes to Canada. 'Mull' was never part of his tours, the same for 'Temporary Secretary'. I suppose he added those songs for something in particular, so that would mean he makes changes in the setlist. We all know the songs he usually plays in this tour, and those two are not part of it. But don't worry, the other guys have answered me

Glad you got your answer. BTW, he has played TS plenty of times recently. And Mull every time he plays Toronto, which means it is not a change for Toronto.

B J Conlee:
Just read one review of last night's State College PA show and as usual the local reviewer loved the show because he realized a childhood dream of seeing Paul McCartney for the first time. Paul's team has a formula and it works so well that they will not "fix something that is not broken". Hitting more secondary markets makes their formula work especially better. Even the reviewers in some cases have never seen Macca live. It was funny reading 2 local State College PA reviews and each one had glaring mistakes. One review called Maybe I'm Amazed...Baby I'm Amazed. And they repeated the incorrect title twice. The 2nd review mentioned Paul doing a few songs from his latest Album called NEW. Then they listed one of those "New" Songs as Temporary Secretary and how Paul at 73 keeps up with the latest trends. Maybe I should write in and tell him that Temporary Secretary is like 36 years old. Well, it doesn't really matter because so many of the people are seeing a Beatle for the first time. They at least know that Paul is going to play their favorite Beatle songs. The shows sell out in like 5 minutes and the 1st and 2nd timers witness one of the best shows they have never seen In all honesty I'm thrilled for all of those people. I remember seeing Paul for the 1st time live back in 1989. Hearing songs like Let It Be, Long and Winding Road, Hey Jude for the 1st time was a thrill. Like many of us here (his hardcore fans) however it is very frustrating that Paul goes out each night and basically plays the same songs. So many are the same that I'm sure he can do them in his sleep. The frustration is that he doesn't challenge himself and play great Solo songs that he has never played before. His shows unfortunately are no longer for the real fans who have seen him multiple times and continue to buy all his CD's and products including the remasters. I saw him in 2005 and 2011 and he was still adding Beatle/Wings songs he hadn't played before and they were excellent shows for the real fans and 1st timers alike. Now that he has basically exhausted his Beatle Catalog, it is the ideal time for Paul to bring out some of those long neglected great Solo Songs. His Tug of War Remaster has just come out. Tug of War is just one of his best Solo albums of all time with great songs as good as many of his great Beatle songs. You would think for his legacy he would be anxious to perform a few of them but unfortunately I guess he is just too comfortable. That is a shame for the real fans who have followed his career for the last 50 plus years. I still love him and he is my favorite music artist ever but for a performer who amazingly still plays 3 hours shows, I just wished for his career he would be more adventurous with his setlist. He certainly has the Post Beatle Catalog to draw from.
See below from the Detroit News review from last night, not solo songs but at least the idea of less Beatle songs is there - lol ""The energy on the Wings rockers such as ?Live and Let Die? and ?Band on the Run? was palpable, making one wonder what would happen if he did a tour of all Wings material. Why not? Drop ?Uncle Albert? into the mix and step back." BJ - see post I put on Toronto concert thread, more stuff from this review you might enjoy.

He only plays "Mull..." where there is a local Bagpipe band that can come in to play with him. That leaves out the U.S.

Yep, we all know that NYC must import those bagpipe bands for their St. Patrick's Day parade - ha ha

If they can't find bagpipes, they can always squeeze some cats.

I went through and compared the setlists for the 6 concerts that I've been to (spanning almost 26 years, dates in my signature). I was really surprised at how much they did vary. Much more than I would have thought. Assuming that the setlists I found (the first 3 were from setlist.fm) were correct, I've seen him do about 90 songs. The thing that shocked me was that there were only 6 songs that were played at every single concert: Band on the Run Back in the USSR Let It Be Live and Let Die Hey Jude Yesterday Not even the Abbey Road medley was played at all 6! Only 5 for that one; for some reason he didn't do it in 1993. Every show I've seen has had songs I've never seen before. Even in the time between last year and the Toronto show, he added not only Four Five Seconds (new) and Mull of Kintyre (Canada), but One After 909, Temporary Secretary, and Another Girl. The 1993 show was almost completely different from the '89-'90 shows. There were 20 "new" songs, and only 5 of those were from Off the Ground. There were only 11 holdovers, including the 6 that are common to every show. There were 16 "new" songs in 2011. (2 of those were actually new since 1993.) Then there were 13 "new" songs in 2014 (4 of those were new). I guess what I'm trying to say is that, IMO, he has actually changed things up a lot and added a lot over the years. He may not change much from show to show, and with the amount of songs has he certainly could do a different setlist every night, but he's had a lot more variety than I thought he would have. I was surprised that I'd seen him do Birthday, Michelle, and The Fool on the Hill, but not in over 20 years. It's amazing how many great songs he has. It must be really hard to figure out which great songs to leave out. He could do a 6 hour show and still be omitting things!
-
In a different perspective, I've seen him 10 times now on 4 different tours in the last 6,5 years, and the only songs I haven't seen at least twice are 'Only Mama Knows', 'Flaming Pie', '(I Want To) Come Home', 'Two Of Us', 'Letting Go', 'With A Little Help From My Friends' and 'Cosmically Conscious', from which the latter two were super duper exclusive songs. And yet he rotates songs like 'One After 909', 'Good Day Sunshine', 'Birthday' on this very tour alone and does things like 'Calico Skies', 'I'll Follow The Sun', 'Things We Said Today', 'Every Night', 'Hope Of Deliverance', 'Bluebird', 'Coming Up' and so on at special occasions, as one-offs or as soundcheck staples and I never heard those once :')... Not even 'Your Mother Should Know', 3 gigs this tour alone. (Won't forget that one, hahaha). So yeah, that's completely off.
