Sometimes it's kind of depressing to see Paul get older
-
Now i've only been a fan about 3 years (even though my obsession with anything Beatles/McCartney related makes it seem like an eternity!) but even since then Paul's voice has noticeably become rougher and more unreliable (particularly on TV). I'm not just talking about his singing voice either, his speaking voice is even rougher! However he has also aged quite a lot, particularly since the late 90's although that's understandable after losing your partner for many years and of course the second marriage must have caused stress. Don't you ever just wish Paul (and Ringo) could stay young forever? I know it's selfish and they are both in their 70's but it just seems depressing to live in a world without any Beatles, particularly the guy who's responsible for my favorite music. I realise they could both live another 15-20 years but i'm only 18 and most of my favourite music artists (Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys/Brian Wilson, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones etc) are already quite old and very selfishly i'd like them to live on for years and years.

What makes it resonate is that if Paul is getting older, WE are too. I was listening to the Beatles at 3 years old, Paul at 12, and now I'm 37. Where did the time go? I'm sure Paul's wondering the same, but he has much better answers to that question than I do.

Just be glad you "found" Paul while he is still with us and you were able to see him in person. Think of all the future generations who will never have a chance to see Paul live in concert or watch a live event like the 12-12-12 concert or his Saturday Night Live show.
-
That's a very good point, thank you. At the very least I can say to my children I saw Paul McCartney twice! I'd go see him again if he comes around next year with a few new songs!

Paul is good inspiration to us aging folks when we see him being still so young and energetic. He's a good example how to grow old gracefully and yet not seem like his age at all.
-
Especially on a day like today I think we should all be thankful and grateful that we can watch Paul grow older. It is a natural occurence and he is a great example leading the way for a lot of us original fans. Just think about it, he'd look awfully ridiculous looking like a 20 year old and being 70. But instead he's a good example of what taking care of yourself and loving what you do can keep you vital and useful at a time when a lot of people think you should fade in the background.

I've grown old right along with Paul. It gives me comfort and inspiration. He's only 9 years older. When I saw him a couple years ago, I was amazed at how youthful he seemed. I hope to be going to his concerts for as many years as he is willing to perform. Paul, "Grow old along with me The best is yet to be"

I hate thinking about that.

It feels quite bittersweet to say this on the anniversary of John's death but sometimes i'll watch a video (usually Beatles related) and it makes me happy to think that the guy who did all that, with his band-mates, conquered America, wrote the most covered song ever and became a large part of the biggest band of all time is still here, writing songs, recording and being very much the same guy he was in 1964 as he is in 2012.

Got news for you buddy...We ALL get old! So get real.
Rough day? You seem to be all kinds of grumpy.
-
I understand what you say MaccaBeatles, to get old is hard and sometimes takes you to depress, but is life...When I have this kind of feelings...I tell myself that is ok because I lived my life, I did what I wanted to do and that's all. Well...you are so young, and this is point of view that you'll get when you get older..

I'm 50 and I've been a Beatles fan since year dot. I've seen heartbreak (John, Linda and George) and the best of times. That's life. That's theirs - and ours. What will be hard to take is seeing them physically unable to do it. Age is just an attitude, and Paul and Ringo are young in mind and spirit. We are all so lucky.

I sadly agree with that statement.

Seriously, seeing him fall at the St. Louis show, jump back up, and joke about it was pretty funny. But then you think, 'Wait a second, he's 70! Is he OK?' It's like his energy prevents you from thinking how, for lack of a better word, frail he should be at his age.

I don't find aging depressing, rather interesting. I've said it a million times, I'm surprised Paul tours and is as active as he is still. 70's a full life, especially in showbiz. not like he can't live another 30 years, god willing. but think of the memories that guy has. the nice thing for him is so many of his memories are so well documented. imagine if all your best moments were documented so amazingly well in photo's, press cliping, and in songs for that matter. I have awesome memories in my own life that seems so long ago (I'm 35), and took place when I was such a different person than I am today, that some of them even feel like dreams to me at this point. I wonder how it is for Paul, how out of body the events seem at this point, even though they're so well documented? He's a lucky man in so many ways. for the person involved, all they are doing is continuing, living every day. its awesome. I'm happy for him and anyone who can be so vital and present at an age of 70+. I know I'm not saying anything different from how anyone else on this board feels, its just a crazy life Paul's had! I hope he's working on a new album the music man. ageless in my eyes. because of the records. makes no difference to me how he sounds these days. he's more a figure head to me now. a man who's given so much. wow. Thanks!

I'm 50 and I'm not "unfit" but I have aches and pains that are starting to be more regular, and I tire quicker than I used to. How Paul travels across the Atlantic as much as he does, even when he's not touring staggers me. He just doesn't stop. Notwithstanding playing gigs of almost 3hrs, his stamina is astounding. All power to him and long may it last.

I think its great more cred. so to speak.A part of our life as we get older and wiser

It's rather depressing to see myself growing older I'm a Beatles and Paul fan since 1964. I saw the Beatles change from four guys in the same suits, to individuals choosing their own way of clothes. Later the individual struggle to build a solo career. Pauls? looks changed though the years and yes he is getting older. But as I see many man of his age in comparison to Paul, he is still looking young.
