Give me "Spies Like Us" everyday. A fun, fast, silly song that perfectly fit the movie, which is now a semi-cult classic. Also reached #7 in the US with "My Carnival", another great little tune. Would definitely work live; Abe would have a blast banging away.

Sweet Jesus...has it come to that?

A semi cult classic? Nonsense.

Maybe not the song, but I'd consider "Spies Like Us" the film to be a cult classic.

Maybe not in Australia, but here in the US, "Spies" is a frequent midnight movie at college campuses. Not sure why. My kids has seen it at their two separate schools. Go figure. I still dig the song.
-
For the record: The movie is a classic. Love it. I'm overdue re-watching it again.

Memo to myself: Keep telling yourself, Audi is young...Audi is YOUNG! Time to get into Bing and Bob! Actually the best thing for me is the walk on Bob Hope does in Spies Like Us. After all, it was an attempt at remaking a road film. It was absolutely a road film concept - but without the star charisma or humour.

Well pardon me! Obviously "everything's up to date in Kansas City!"

Doctor. Doctor. Doctor. Doctor. Doctor. Doctor. Chevy when still in fine form. Doctor. Doctor. I've grown to like the song more through the years. Was never going to be a masterpiece. But... a fun enough song. Even if a throw-away. But, hey, it was a comedy. He was never gonna put out another Live and Let Die with that kinda movie. Love the film clip. Doctor.
-
It was the 1980's. Like so many established artists of his generation, it was his nadir. Thankfully he recovered.
-
Had a good Doctor. Doctor. Doctor.

Thy speaketh the truth ↑ As much as everyone would like more of their own era, wholesale 80's, 90's and beyond just ain't gonna happen. Realistic wholesale changes are Beatles and pleasingly, Wings. And to be blunt, the emotional wallop that a live I Want To Hold Your Hand can deliver won't be felt by a live The Pound Is Sinking: and McCartney knows it. At his age, it's all legacy for whatever time he has left, but with changes and surprises to mix it up a bit. Although he doesn't mix up the setlist as much as we'd LIKE - his tours since 02 show he does mix it up more than we THINK!
"Although he doesn't mix up the setlist as much as we'd LIKE - his tours since 02 show he does mix it up more than we THINK!" Yes, he has made changes it is just the changes he has made IMO. He will add Beatle song like "Benfit Of Mr. Kite" instead of doing something like "Take It Away".
____________________________________________________ Unfortunately, as much as many of us on this board would love more SOLO PAUL, Moptops does raise a good point about the "emotional wallop" of a "I want to hold your hand" compared to almost any Solo Paul song at a Macca Show. Most of the people attending a McCartney show just don't know his Solo Catalog like we do. No doubt a Beatle classic like "I Want to Hold Your Hand" that he has never done live would bring a much louder response compared to any of his Solo stuff. This is where Paul has to have a pair of brass ones and be willing to demand that his audience hear his "total" Catalog. And I think Moptops is also right about Paul's legacy mindset. Not sure any of us are going to change Paul's mind regarding this. That is why, as Yankeefan says, you get "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" over a great Solo song like Take It Away. The Tug of War album does remind me time and time again how Paul has severely neglected some great Post Beatles' songs. On Tug of War specifically he has never played 5 or 6 terrific songs that should be better known. Obviously, he does do "Here Today" all the time mainly because it was and is the most natural "tribute" song him to do for John. Besides being a very good song, it is also a relative easy song to perform and gives him a chance to be on stage by himself. Looking at the other great songs from Tug of War, what do you think are the best chances and opportunities for his next tour. Here are mine: Tug of War (the song) - I think the chance is very slim mainly because of Paul's 2016 vocal capabilities The song requires his vocal chops from several years ago at best in my opinion. Such a shame because it is one of Paul's greatest Solo songs imo. Take it Away - As Yankeefan and others have pointed out...what a great classic he has never done. I think there might be a chance he could consider doing it in 2016 or beyond because it was a top 10 hit. This is we might have a chance especially since Paul is kind of running out of Beatle songs. Somebody Who Cares - I would love this one since it is one of the real underrated gems on Tug imho. Realistically I think the chances are slim since in Paul's mind it might be too obscure and it doesn't have any unusual musical hook like Temporary Secretary has. Ballroom Dancing - Although I have no idea if Paul would consider doing it, I personally think it would be a great choice. Similar to a song like Ob La Di, Ballroom Dancing has a very upbeat tempo and is an easy sing-a-long for the crowd. I also think Paul's voice can handle BD especially with Abe helping him through the "Ballroom Dancing" screaming parts. While some people may not recognize it, it is an easy song to catch onto. Let's hope that Paul looks beyond strictly his Beatles' and Wings' Catalog and has the courage to do it. After all it is part of his terrific Catalog and he just released the Remastered/Remixed album versions. The Pound is Sinking - Similar to Ballroom Dancing, this is another one that I think Paul could handle in 2016 (albeit with Abe's help in the screaming portions). I think it would have a great live feel with Abe's powerful drumming and Rusty/Brian electric guitars. Wanderlust - Similar to the title track, Wanderlust is one of Paul's greatest Solo songs. Unfortunately, I don't believe that Paul's 2016 vocals could handle this song. Like the title cut, both songs unfortunately would expose Macca's current voice. Ebony and Ivory - I personally hope that Paul would not do this one or even consider it for multiple reasons. Besides not believing his 2016 voice could handle it, it would create a field day for critics to pan it. While he could trade vocals with Abe, I just think that some of the above songs (mainly Take It Away, Ballroom Dancing and The Pound is Sinking) would come across so much better. Please Paul, have the courage to show the world all the great songs you did after 1970 and Wings.

I think any of these songs is a real possibility for a new tour. I Want To Hold Your Hand (if he's ever going to do it the time is now - the clock is ticking. Would bring the house down in the encore) Soily (Another song which would work perfectly in the encore and a proven live stomper that's not too demanding of his voice - this song is all about the band.) Martha My Dear (he has tinkered with the opening so the song is in his consciousness) Maxwell's Silver Hammer (easy on his voice, a crowd singalong and it's Beatles) Getting Closer (perfect for the second song slot and we're due something from Back To The Egg) Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey (Paul has said he'd like to try it live but it's complex - if it works at rehearsal I hope he attempts it) What You're Doing (It's early to mid Beatles, never done live so has to be an obvious shot) Silly Love Songs (the glaring omission - a monster hit but could his 2016 voice handle it?) I've Had Enough (a Wings rocker and like "Egg", we're due something from London Town, and he has played it before - I rate this a bigger chance than "Luck", which I doubt his voice could handle) Helen Wheels (another Wings rocker which would work well live but...his voice!) Big Barn Bed (A Wings stomper and although he's done it as a throwaway at soundchecks a full band version might be in the mix) ...of course he'll probably come out and not do any of these!

↑ Oh and the obvious post Wings song is Take It Away...

I agree with a bunch of your songs but these my favorites from your list. I would love to have him do "Soily", would be a great end of first encore song. Like you said, it is all about the band and think they would rock it. "I Have Enough" is a great little rocker and think he could easily do this song since he does 50's style rock very good. Out of the Beatle songs, I personally would pick "Martha My Dear". Now for my picks. If he would do something from "Back To The Egg", why not "Old Siam Sir"? I would have him revisit RAM and do "Dear Boy". A perfect song for the acoustic set would be "Little Willow from "Flaming Pie". Mr. McCartney once opened concert in Paris with "That Was Me" from MAF and it would be cool addition to setlist. Finally, why not do something different from "New" like "Early Days".

I agree with your thoughts. I think "Ballroom Dancing" would be the best selection to do since it is catchy, fun and his voice can handle it. It is a shame that years ago he never thought of doing great songs like "Wanderlust" and "Tug Of War" when his voice was much younger/better. As for "Ebony and Ivory", it should only be done on a special occasion (like White House years ago) when he can get Stevie Wonder to perform with him.
-
Old Siam Sir I would love but I don't want to hear him croak his way through it. I think it's beyond his voice now. Same with With a Little Luck...and I suspect, Silly Love Songs. Still if anyone told me he'd wheel out The Night Before and hit those notes and make the song sound so good, I wouldn't have believed that!
