Well, as others have said, Pure McCartney is not really for hardcore fans, it's for casual fans (young or old). He's probably not too concerned if we don't buy it, because we're the ones buying the Archive sets. But of course, I'll buy it because I'm one of the harder of the hardcore. I won't get the vinyl, but I do NEED the CDs. But that's just me. Call me an April Fool if you like. And I am hoping that perhaps there is something unreleased in some way here. The most notable "rarity" so far is that this is the first official CD release of "Hope For The Future." Thrilling, I know!
What casual fan gives a rat's arse about these songs? I mean, really? By this logic, Paul's set list would have most of these songs, to expose the 90% of casual fans who are attending his shows these days to these songs. It will be interesting to see how this does. Some hardcore fans will buy this, and some will give it a pass (like me). Casual fans will buy this thinking they are buying a CD with Band On The Run and Silly Love Songs. Or they will read the track listing and pass.
There is a market for this. Casual fans may buy Pure McCartney for the songs they recognize, but if they discover one or two obscure gems, that'll make it worth it. I am stunned by the short-sightedness of you guys. This is a BOLD acknowledgement; Paul McCartney is doing what we've been waiting on the man to do: Acknowledge his friggin' solo catalog with some genuine thought. True, some essentials are missing, but plenty of others are there. Sweet Lordy, this is a good thing, people. Let's hope it influences his stale concerts.
I totally agree. While the selection of songs could be better, I think this collection is a great thing. I am looking forward to it, as it will allow me to hear certain songs I don't listen to (like the Chaos songs) because I don't care for the album as a whole. I expect I will enjoy it the same way I do Wingspan--when I want something Macca, but am not in the mood for a specific album. Already have this on pre-order!

We hope so. But what you say is logical. On Planet Paul, a tour occurring at the same time as an album release does not necessarily equate to "promotion."
Amen to that!

Exactly why I'm buying Pure McCartney.

I wonder if Tim Christensen has a copyright on his album?

Gotta' admit: Omitting an an epic track like "House Of Wax" does seem hard to forgive. However, I beg to differ about "Arrow Through Me" and "Great Day" -- excellent songs.

"Run Devil Run" is another egregious oversight, but we can all just forget about the Driving Rain era: Not exactly community property, but its reissue, etc. could conjure dollar signs.

If it's for casual fans, I would guess they might be scratching their heads over "Bip Bop," "Temporary Secretary," "Big Barn Bed," and more than a few others that Paul imagines people will have fun listening to. They will imagine they are listening to his all time greats and none of those even remotely qualify. They're cringe-inducing and should never have been released in the first place, let alone on this type of release.
I guess it shows we all have differing opinions and should never regard our opinion as fact.. after all i absolutely love Big Barn Bed - the guitar on it alone is just such a brilliant sound, always loved the song Annoying Old Siam Sir isn't on this though yet arrow through me is!

I like your optimism, and you're always happy to see his solo output pushed. But from where I see it, Martinez said it best: the casual fan won't give a rat's arse about this.

FITD DR and RDR were all overlooked as they will be issued in Super Deluxe instead :
-
So.....back to the title of thread...when you think Paul will be releasing a new album. It's been a few years.

If McRepeat dragged out a faithful band rendition of Big Barn Bed I'd be on a plane quicker than you could say "setlist change".

When I say casual fans, I mean people who are intrigued by his hits and want to dig deeper, but not buy all his albums, just getting a sampling. Audi is right, people have been saying for years that Paul should have a collection that acknowledges his more recent work, and now here it is, and suddenly that's a bad idea? Of course, everyone will have different ideas about what songs to include, but aside from the absence of FITD songs (which I'm sure is a bit of a cynical ploy to make that Archive reissue more marketable this fall), I think it is a good sampling of his career. If any one of us came up with our own track listing, there would be people who would pounce on it for some reason or other. It's not an exact science.

I say spring of 2017 at the earliest, now that this collection is coming out in June and the FITD Archive set is surely set for the fall. And we still don't know the status of the High In The Clouds movie and soundtrack. Will that come out before a "proper" Paul album?

One of his compositions from "Run Devil Run?" ops:
Personally, I love "Temporary Secretary" (and I was thrilled to see him do it live last year), but that's just me.

Here's a good piece discussing this set, and the comments will sound pretty familiar to everyone here. Everyone's upset about the FITD omissions! http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/pure-mccartney-macca-curated-best-of-offers-solo-wings-tracks-across-4cds/
