Come on, really? Opening a concert with "A Hard Day's Night" and ending it (or near the end) with "Birthday" isn't good enough for you? I can't believe that there are people out there that believe that just because the tour name (which doesn't mean a damn thing) changes it will in turn eliminate songs like "Hey Jude" and "Back In The USSR". At this point in his career I firmly believe he is cementing his enormous legacy in history by attempting to reach as many people (especially young people- hence the festivals and collaborations with younger artists) as possible through all this extensive worldwide touring. Playing deep unrecognizable PaulMcCartney solo numbers will not achieve this. Playing more familiar Classic Beatles songs that have an important role in music history will. Here's a newsflash- most people that attend a Paul McCartney concert are there to hear "Hey Jude" than "Flaming Pie". One more thing- who cares about a rising platform? I guess some people just need a reason to complain.
I don't think anyone is expecting songs like "Hey Jude" or "Yesterday" to be eliminated. In fact, I think those songs should be included just based upon how iconic they are. It's like Billy Joel playing "Piano Man" or The Rolling Stones playing "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction". When you go see artists like those, their big identifiable songs should be played. What a lot of us are saying is that Paul should pepper his setlist with a few more of his solo songs. Not every song needs to be super obscure, but something like "Let Me Roll It," which he's been playing for a good 14 years+ (and telling he same story to go along with it), is getting kind of stale, to be honest. Consider that Paul is going to be 74. I know he's set in ways in some regards to the setlist, but he only has so much time until he's not going to be touring anymore, and I wish he'd branch out just a bit more. The first half of tonight's show was an example that he can do it.
If you put in a new song, you gotta take something out. As many times as I've heard "The Long And Winding Road" live- truly a masterpiece, I'm deeply saddened he took it out. OK, sure, put new stuff in, but with a megahit like Uncle Albert, not something no one has ever heard from Flowers In The Dirt. The people doing this complaining are the same ones over and over again- truly a very small percentage, but it seems like it's with every "tour", every setlist. Aint gonna happen. If it was gonna happen, don't u think it would have by now? And whats wrong with "You Won't See Me" or "Here, There and Everywhere" as replacements? I for one am super excited to see The One And only Former Beatle Paul McCartney for the umpteenth time and yes, excited to hear tributes to John and George, as well as "Yesterday", "Rigby" and "Can't Buy Me Love"

Im gonna say one more thing- It aint about you (i.e. the boardies) or me. Its about the millions of people that have yet to see him live.

I understand what you're saying, we just a little disappointed from the setlist because we expected a new tour (as all the media+MPL published) and we got basically the same think, if this was another leg of the Out There your no one had nothing to complain about. All of us (I think) are thankful and appreciate that Paul is still rocking at 74, this is truly amazing, we just hoping for some setlist changes for fans who saw him more than one time.

WELL SAID Britishleyland.... Some of sheer negativity that you read on here is shocking[one fan even sent paul twitter msg of complaint!].We are alive,Paul is alive and he still tours singing those incredible songs. The man is a gift ,the set list is perfect, really no need for too many changes, but if he did then fine I would love that too.I just hate to see such negative posts about his live shows all the time.Remember on the David Bowie forum and the Michael Jackson forum the folks would love the chance to complain about live set lists!.Paul Mccartney is like one of the wonders of the world, enjoy him while you can because one day his live performances will be just a memory.
-
He is harming his own legacy - he has created the biggest beatle tribute band. No wonder his NEW music didn't do that well compared to Bowie or The Boss, he isn't seen as relevant anymore. Everyone expects - Blackbird, Yesterday, Hey Jude, Let It Be - some songs are just completely untouchable. Like someone made the comment earlier on you can't go and see Billy Joel and not get Piano Man, you can't go and see ELO and not get Mr Blue Sky. I would say even BOTR and Live and Let Die are untouchable. However, why not change a couple of songs now and again or throw in the odd obscurity. Why should any fans fork out for a Greatest Hits package when he doesn't even believe in the music he is singing. I wasn't expecting a huge change but all he is done is add more beatle songs - some average beatle songs to boot.

I find the complainers disrespectful and considering this is Paul's official site pretty dis gusting.Paul does not tour for your private needs.Paul tours for the majority, and I am certain that the lucky folks coming out of last nights show had huge beaming smiles. So what there are not any new songs.I thought the set list was neat. And tweeting your complaints to Paul after the man has stood there on stage and sung his heart out is in pretty poor taste..Be thankful he is still showering the world with his gifts and stop being so darn selfish.
I find the complaints to be incredibly respectful. It shows that there are a few of us around that actually believe in this man's entire catalog and not just what he did with three other guys for the first eight years of it. It is "pretty disgusting" that songs like "I've Got a Feeling" are supposed to be exciting when there is a chronological gap in his setlist from 1976-1979/1983-2011.
-
I'm sorry but perhaps you should find another musician to like if you feel that way.I do not recognise the points you make.Heck alot of you English people can be so rude.Paul is everything to me and the set lists are perfect just perfect. And listening to him completely nail the high notes on maybe Im Amazed last night made me send a special prayer of thanks to god this morning for the gift of James Paul McCartney. Love him and appreciate him whilst you can dear fellow fans. I am nearly 60 and I intend on getting one of those Tattoos that Paul signs your arm for.Never had a Tattoo in my whole life but I guess now is the time.I just need to lose a few pounds before the 'one on one' tour comes to me.

What a ridiculous thing to say, irrespective of the fact most people commenting aren't English.

Heard he did temporary secretary last night. Wish he would come to the Southeast

HaHa...I saw what you did there Sgt Pepper..."pepper his setlist". LOL! I am so late to the party...in fact it's over...so now I need to decide to read 40 pages or just a few of the last pages. I can see it's not that minty, huh?

Let me see if this makes sense to you. Somebody like myself and Audi for example have been a fan of Mr. McCartney's entire career and have bought all of his solo albums/CD's. Is it wrong for us to want him to play more of the songs that we love and paid money for in concert. We all acknowledge he has to play the hits especially with the ticket prices he charges for a show. Myself and others just ask that he actually play some solo songs instead of songs he has played to death like "Let Me Roll It". Do you really think the first time fan would be devastated if "For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite" was replaced by solo song "Take It Away" which was a top 20 single? As for "Flowers IN The Dirt", it was a very good album with some really good songs. Why not play something from it, it has not been done in concert in over 25 years. BTW - are you telling me that every song played in a concert has to be a commercial hit? Let me add, I am not English - lol
-
I've been to 7 Paul shows. Never heard can't buy me love live. It hasn't been a regular in a few years. I love Paul and will go see him play any setlist. The problem I have is playing nearly the same sets every show. He can change it up show to show a little more. That would reward fans who attend mutiple concerts and actually entice fans to attend multiple shows in the same tour. I'm disappointed songs like Day Tripper, Paperbavk writer,LAWR, Get back, ISHST were cut. Those are A list Beatle classics. If Paul periodically adds a few of these here and there I'm fine with the setlist. But is it really too much to ask for him to play a few hits he hasn't performed yet? With a Little Luck, No more lonely nights, uncle Albert? Throw in Ram on every once in a while, maybe Heart of the Country , Venus and Mars, Mull of Kintyre, Penny Lane, Sargent Peppers, the night Before? His setlist are so long he could easily play the 20-25 mainstays and plug some other hits in. Just make it different each show that's all I ask . We'll that and I really want to hear him jam on the Rick.

What about "Martha My Dear", it was soudchecked today (according to what I heared)
We had a full soundcheck report on here and that wasn't on it.
Oh, so what was the soundcheck setlist?
I don't remember. Dive back about twenty pages or so!
1. Matchbox 2. Honey Don't 3. Coming Up 4. Drive My Car 5. C Moon 6. Let 'Em In 7. I've Just Seen a Face 8. Every Night 9. It's So Easy 10. Every Night 11. Instrumental jam 12. Brief Ukulele 13. Bluebird 14. Lady Madonna
Even the sound check is fairly routine and nothing to get excited about with possible exception of hearing him due "Bluebird".

No second encore...or surprises. He's coasting this out.
Exactly and making tons of money.

The problem Paul has is he does a "new" tour every year, so it is not realistic to have a new set list and stage if you only have a six month break between "tours." The Stones play pretty much the same set list, but take a few years off between tours and have new staging that retain the main elements. People on this forum are desperate for anything new or fresh in the set list. I get that. But really, there is nothing new here. Except for the opener (I will get to that), he has played everything here on a past tour in some form. You Won't See Me acoustic is not prize over the full band treatment from 2004. Why not do a full band version? They HAVE played it before! In Spite Of All The Danger? A song that he wrote before he was a great songwriter? Just play I Lost My Little Girl next. And ignore What Your Doing and Wait. ok. : Love Me Do is OK, but almost in the same category. He did this with PS Love Me Do many years ago. Not impressive. But OK. Cool. A Hard Day's Night: One of John Lennon's great Beatle songs that Paul had NOTHING to do with. It sounded great with John on the verse and Paul on the bridge, because, although John wrote it, he could not hit the high notes so he let Paul sing that part. I saw a video of him doing it last night and am underwhelmed. Paul is OK on it, but if he wants an optimum impact Beatle hit to open with, why not Can't Buy Me Love, a song he wrote??? Or even I Want To Hold Your Hand, She Loves You, or From Me To You, songs he at least co wrote?? I am holding my breath for him to start saying in interviews that he co wrote A Hard Day's Night with John. : I am glad I saw him in 1993 when he DID play Here There and Everywhere and Can't Buy Me Love, with a much stronger voice. My gosh, it would have been ballsy to open with Save Us, or Helen Wheels. And stick AHDN in the middle of the set as a John tribute to replace Here Today. I would gladly see this show in Albuquerque. But AGAIN, I will save my money and not travel for this tour. I saw RAIN last night and I promise you, they did AHDN better than Paul did.

haha that's sad
Tonight reaffirms that my "go to" concert will always be the '07 Paris gig at the O'Lympia.
That was awesome because he opened with "That Was Me" !!!

There are eight--*eight*--songs I haven't heard Paul sing live in that set list, and this will be my sixth show. Bring that awesome set list to St. Louis, Macca...you'll have at least one longtime fan dancing the night away!!

I agree with many of your points but will comment on a few. I saw the clip of "Hard Day's Night" and was not impressed. Heck, I saw Billy Joel last year and he did the song in a mash up and it was much better than last night. "Can't Buy Me Love" would have been much better opener. Mr. McCartney has played practically everything off BOTR so why not "Helen Wheels"? "In Spite of All Danger" makes set list again but he has never done "Take It Away which was top 20 single off a #1 album TOW. Just makes you want to shake your head !! Maybe he should not start another tour with new name until he actually changes set list a bunch. If not, why not just use the last tour name. I will answer my own question, he can sell new merchandise.
