The difference between Pinkpop and a festival like Werchter: A peek at social media shows nothing less than overwhelmed reports. The reviews are a mixed bag though: http://deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuws/cultuur%2Ben%2Bmedia/muziek/1.2700805 "Were The Beatles at the time "bigger than Jesus", than McCartney was "God" tonight". http://www.standaard.be/cnt/dmf20160701_02365774 3 out of 5 stars, "big heart, hoarse vocals". "Did he have a cold? The voice was weak, hoarse and simply not within reach to carry certain songs. The first half hour you could almost feel sorry for him. After that it was better at times. But still..." It's Autumn-like in the "Summer" in Central-Europe, but the fans conquered the weather, video at the bottom, with the usual pro-shot snippet from 1:31 on: http://deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuws/videozone/werchter%2B2016/1.2700806 Photos here: http://focus.knack.be/entertainment/muziek/concertverslagen/in-beeld-paul-mccartney-op-rock-werchter/diaporama-normal-723479.html and http://www.standaard.be/cnt/dmf20160630_02365730 I love this audience shot of 'Can't Buy Me Love': http://nieuws.vtm.be/cultuur-media/197339-mccartney-speelt-rw-plat-met-beatles-hits The audience singing the title at the wrong spots (0:09 and 0:29) reminds me of Paris '65: http://my.mail.ru/mail/dorsash/video/976/53.html?time=0&from=videoplayer (0:41 and 1:00).

Wow, he was in great shape yesterday. He was clearly enjoying himself and the crowd reaction was overwhelming. The loud drum beats from another stage were bothering him a bit during Blackbird and Here Today, He imitated the boom boom boom sound several times, which was actually adding to the atmosphere imo. He mentioned Jimi Hendrix and then he said something like "and for Scotty Moore" (who die earlier this week). After Something he joked: "the greatest Lennon-McCartney song according to Frank Sinatra". Audience was much younger than at Pinkpop and front rows were mostly taken by people under 30 (plus me ), who were having a ball. During HiHiHi there was a long annoying feedback and he said "don't know where that came from". When he thanked the crew he gave them a sneer "thanks to the people on the sound, especially on that last song". The guitar solos on "Carry that weight/the end" were messed up a bit and Paul seemed worried a bit and turned his back to the audience and instructed his roadie. No elevator during Blackbird and Here Today, possibly the thing did not work properly. All these little "mistakes" gave a nice improvised touch to an otherwise excellent performance. This one is in my top 3 list, it was a special one because more than normally you could see the fun he has. And that is why he keeps continueing. I am glad he sings the way he sings at 74. He is real and pure. And brave as well to do a festival like this, which is aimed at the young (and to do a setlist like he did).

Excellent post Servi, with lots of very good observations. The noise from other stages is perhaps why Paul has only begun doing festivals in relatively recent times, after previously bring reluctant. I was there too - front row, dead centre. I was first in line at my turnstile! And once through security, I bolted straight down to the front and stayed there for the next 11.5 hours without moving. No comfort break for 15 hours for a guy of nearly 50! In some ways, the best spot in the house but as this is Werchter, in others not. There have been many complaints in the past about the height of the stage there. That said, it would all have been fine if they hadn't set up these steel blocks and pipes for the pyro for live and let die. As a result, I couldn't see Paul on his grand piano and his head only just appeared above his multicoloured electric piano. However, on the pus side, the failure of his rising platform meant that I could enjoy Blackbird and Here Today from 7 or 8 metres away - a memory I will treasure forever.

WOW !!!!! And after the 15 hours, another few hours to get on the bus ?? You will never regret standing for so long, as the memory will last for ever ! We went to the front area before Ellie Goulding came on stage. Her music did not interest me much, but it was fun to see her fans singing along. After that, a lot of people left and we managed to get at the 8th row or something.

Great reports, all. More from the press:

Humo, 4 stars: http://www.festivalitis.be/artikel/review-paul-mccartney-op-rock-werchter-2016#link_time=1467367803 They reviewed his concert in Paris last month as well, and are noting the set is sequenced one on one (no pun), up to the talks and jams. Also, his voice sounded "at times like a cheese with holes in it". But, the reviewer concludes, "for someone in his 30's this set would have been impressive. For someone who's slowly creeping up to 80, it was almost miraculous." De Morgen, 4 stars: http://www.demorgen.be/cultuur/paul-mccartney-zorgt-voor-gelukzalige-gezichten-op-rock-werchter-b51eb0c1/ Knack, 5 stars: http://focus.knack.be/entertainment/muziek/concertverslagen/paul-mccartney-op-rock-werchter-een-enkeltje-napels/article-review-723575.html

Only one error in the 4 out of 4 stars review by Humo: he does NOT paint his hair !! He has denied that rumour in several interviews............I assume someone else paints it for him Humo issued a nice little festival guide with Macca on the front and an excellent 7 page article. Below is the time table for 2 of the 4 days of Werchter. Amazing that the oldest act has the longest time slot.

No "Yesterday"?!?!?
Not all that surprising. Paul usually skips "Yesterday" at festival gigs (he didn't do it at Lollapalooza, for example).

Always click on the user's name and a sidebar will pop up on the left side of your screen (on a desktop or laptop) and it will show other videos the user has streamed. This girl had two other clips up, totaling maybe another 20 minutes -- they're still there but will be gone in the next few hours, so go look!!! They are only up for about 24 hours -- people don't know but if you put #save in the title of your periscope, it will not be removed.

Haha, gotta love McCartney being cranky at the technicians. First the sarcastic comment at 0:10. Then his immediate reaction after touching the piano during the intro of 'Golden Slumbers', and him shouting off mic to the crew in every pause he has, with even missing a line at 1:30, with 2:12 as highlight, and at 3:04-3:17 he is STILL at it. And lol @ 4:01. And @ 5:27-5:37 his guitar also isn't completely as it should be, with the ever-telling communication between Abe Jr. and McCartney at 7:10 to top it off, just like after the Olympics disaster.Haha, omg. Paul doesn't look pleased. "It's too loud!"
