McCartney's Best "Meaningful Lyric" Songs
-
Over the last month and half, I have traveled from Florida to New Jersey and Massachusetts and finally to the State of Maine. It was my first time to Maine. My Daughter lives just outside of Boston so once I visited her and my son-in-law I figured Maine would be a great place to visit. I have heard people rave about Maine and now I totally understand. Maine, in my opinion, is arguably the prettiest State on the entire East Coast. For a couple of weeks, we visited most of the towns right along the coast like Portland, Freeport, Kennebunkport, and Boothbay. Then for the Labor Day weekend, we went to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. My daughter and son-in-law joined us and it was fabulous. For anyone (especially on the East Coast) who hasn't visited Acadia National Park, I would highly recommend it. I have gone to some of the great National Parks out west but Acadia has it own uniqueness. While not nearly as big, high and grandiose as it Western counterparts, Acadia has the "Atlantic Ocean right next to the beautiful trees, rocks and mountains. It was so beautiful. I felt like I was back in the 170o's while hiking through Acadia. We also took a 4 hour cruise around the islands which was also fabulous. Speaking of "fab" it got me thinking of a couple of Macca songs and lyrics while I was walking through Acadia. Here are two: Heart of the Country (Ram) excerpts: "I look high, I look low I'm looking everywhere I go Looking for a home In the heart of the country Heart of the country Where the holy people grow Heart of the country Smell the Grass in the meadow Country Dreamer (B-side to Helen Wheels single) excerpts: I'd like to walk in a field with you take my hat and boots off too I'd like to lie in a field with you Would you like to do it too, May You and I country dreamer when there's nothing else to do; Me oh my, country dreamer Make a country dream come true I'd like to climb up a hill with you Stand on top and admire the view I'd like to roll down a hill with you Would you like to do it too, May?

I've always wanted to go to Maine, its one of 4 states that I've never been to. You make it sound so wonderful and those are great songs for a park too.

Thanks for the post "Love2travel". It is so neat to read one of your own posts from almost 4 years ago (September 2016). I can't believe how my life has changed in just a relatively short amount of time.
The following year after returning home to Florida, I met my future wife (Summer of 2017). On October 28, 2018 we got married. At out ages there's no point in wasting time! My pregnant Daughter who was barely able to make the wedding blessed me with my first Grandchild on December 16, 2018.
In the Fall of 2019 we decided to do a cruise out of Boston. It allowed us to visit my Daughter and Grandson before the cruise.
The reason we did the cruise (Holland America Line) was because it was leaving out of Boston. It was a 7 Day Cruise and conveniently the first stop took us back to Bar Harbor Maine. It was an easy way to get back to Bar Harbor fom the ship. We remembered how much we liked the area. The rest of the stops on the cruise included Halifax, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Montreal. It was a great cruise and the best part was that it was very affordable. The weather in late September was gorgeous. I would highly recommend it. .
Have you been to Boston? By doing a cruise, is was an affordable way to see a great American City and see beautiful country scenery. We also loved Eastern Canada after seeing Bar Harbor. The combination of beautiful scenery and good food offered tremendous value.

Yes have been to Boston a number of times, really like the Cape and Nantucket/Vineyard too! Sounds like a great cruise, have always wanted to explore that area and a cruise would be a great eay to do that. Did see Quebec for the free Paul McCartney 300th anniversary tour. That was a beautiful city.
Know what you mean about stepping up the pace the older you get! Have a long list of catching up after COVID!!! Missed a trip to Europe and a cruise in the footsteps of Paul, to be out of the country during the election.
One of my favorite lyrics is for the song Traveling Light. It makes me think of flying over the Atlantic while on vacation and also leaves in the wind...
I ride on the White Wind High over the sand
I follow the bluebird
I follow the windI glide on the green leaf
Not asking for more
I follow the white wind
I glide on the green leafI swim in the blue sea
I walk on the sand
I fly through the blue sky
To wherever you landI ride on the white wind
To a far away shore
I follow the bluebird
To wherever she landsI'll be traveling tonight
Oh across the sea
Where she waits, she waits for me
Across the broken sea
From the sea
From the seaFrom across the endless sea
I'll be traveling tonight -
I'm pretty sure I missed this thread entirely when it started, but I'd belatedly like to offer as my entry, The End of the End. I've mentioned before that this was released at the time my father was dying, so it has a special place. But even taking out that personal connection, the thing is just genius.
On the day that I die
I'd like jokes to be told
And stories of old
To be rolled out like carpets
That children have played on
And laid on
While listening to stories of oldWho else could write a song contemplating one's own death and make it a thing of joy?

Loved that you brought up..."The End of the End". Since I got a cell phone holder for my bike, I've been listening to Spotify's "This is: Paul McCartney"while riding in the mornings and evenings. It's my favorite Paul playlist because this particular playlist concentrates on Paul's Post Beatles/Solo songs. One of the tracks on their list is "The End of the End". It always brings a smile to me as does songs like Too Much Rain, Jenny Wren and Friends to Go. I'm hoping Spotify would expand this Playlist (e.g. a Volume 2) because there are so many songs that could be added. For example they have "The End of the End" and "You Tell Me" on their list but there's another 4 or 5 from Memory Almost Full I would love to hear.

"Traveling Light" is a great choice "love2travel". I remember when I started to listen to "Electric Arguments" and it was always one of my favorite tracks. I had to get used to Paul's lower regjister voice but I loved the way the song builds towards the climatic ending. You're right...the lyics are also great...another hidden gem in Paul's Discography.

'Scared' is classic McCartney, the perfect marriage of a beautiful melody, heartfelt performance and a no-nonsense lyric.
I'm scared to say I love you
Afraid to let you know
That the simplest of words
Won't come out of my mouth
Though I'm dying to let them go
Trying to let you know. -
It's been bashed for cheesy '80's sound effects, but I'm fond of "Ebony and Ivory"--for its beautiful melody and beautiful singing from two greats, Macca and Stevie Wonder--and for its direct, affecting lyrics with a great message, which ring true. It should speak even more to us presently, with the plethora of "Black Lives Matter" demonstrations.
