Sir Elton John Thread

Really Liking the new CD..
-
PBS featured an Elton John concert last night which was filmed in September, in London. I noticed Elton has changed some of the songs around to suit his voice, and my mind's ear heard how the songs originally were sung almost the second he sang these, last night. This didn't detract from the concert all that much. The re-arrangements were cleverly done. A row of backup female singers augmented his vocals as well. Usually the high parts.

I saw that special as well. It was great imo. Elton looks so healthy and handsome. After just having a severe bout of appendicitis and an appendectomy, he has lost weight and is so spiffy and full of life. I REALLY enjoyed that concert. Unfortunately, I can't make it to Atlanta this Saturday. Something came up a few weeks ago and I can't make it. I really was SO looking forward to seeing him again. I am still planning on caching him somewhere once more in the future. 8 Everyone who is going please give an update? Thanx! Oh, and I have his new album and it is wonderful. My most favorite part of the album is that Sir Elton plays so much more piano than usual. Since I LOVE his piano playing it just hooked me. Plus the fact some of the album has this kinda blues/gospel down home feel to it. Like he was channeling the Southern USA jazz/blues/gospel sound. Sir Elton went back to the Crossroads so to speak, it reminds me of his music from when he first began recording. (God, I sound like a music critic. ) Anyway, I love it! Cheers!

I'm going to see him in DC tonight!

And you were right! Elton was spectacular last night! He played for 2 1/2 hours, racking up 26 songs, each one topping the last! Well...that opener is hard to beat...but anyway! His voice was in good form for what it is these days. He works it to his advantage and makes up for it with piano playing at times, which has only gotten better with age! The band was remarkable as well. Longtime members Davey Johnstone and Nigel Olsonn and Guitar and Drums...with keyboards, bass, percussion, two cellos, and four back up singers. I was impressed that on my third concert, I was able to hear 10 songs I'd never heard him play before. He was in an excellent mood as well, no breakdowns. My only minor qualm would be having only two songs from the new album. Still, the best he's performed of the three shows I've seen...setlist below...order may be a bit wonky Funeral For a Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding Candle in The Wind Bennie and The Jets Grey Seal Levon Tiny Dancer Holiday Inn Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters Believe Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Philadelphia Freedom I Guess That's Why They Call it The Blues Rocket Man Oceans Away The One Someone Saved my Life Tonight Home Again Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me Sad Songs Say So Much I'm Still Standing The Bitch is Back All The Young Girls Love Alice Your Sister Can't Twist But She Can Rock and Roll Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting ENCORE Your Song Crocodile Rock

Have seen Elton John 5 times, first one in 2004. He always gives 100% to his shows. Going by wixrocks setlist there's 6 songs I have yet to see live. He's doing a few gigs in UK next June, so may be tempted to go.

Oh! Thanks so much WixRocks 4 posting the set list and your exciting experience! I love some of the others songs he added esp. I'm Still Standing, IGTWTCITB, but I love his early rock treasures too! Made me happy just 2 read your report! Wish he would play "Madman Across The Water."

I'd like to hear "Get Back Honkey Cat" and "James Dean" by him too, live and "Love Lies Bleeding" T Bone Burnett who produced his latest hails from the South or from Texas in the Southwest, which may partly account for the down home bluesy Southern laid back feel you mentioned, Kitty. And Leon Russell hails from the Southwest, Oklahoma. I need to hear "Union" and "Diving Board."

Both are nice albums. I prefer The Union. After three Elton concerts, I am a little bummed I still haven't heard Honky Cat live. But he's opened with Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding every time!

Yes, I love Honky Cat too. I mean I could go on all day wishing I could hear ALL Elton songs. Oh, another that probably most don't care about but maybe so, I want to hear so bad is "Little Jeannie." He sounds so sexy singing that song. Oh, I could just swoon over it all. My dream job, and this is really funny, is working for Elton sewing his Swarovski crystals that might be loose from he clothes back on his fabulous outfits. That way I could follow the band and hear all his songs. When I saw him last March he started off with "The Bitch Is Back." Great show! If you get a chance WixRocks what outfit was he wearing?
-
Little Jeannie would be great live! An often over-looked hit these days. He was wearing a blue ensemble...with his Madman Across The Water Sequinned jacket. Here's a photo from the show...

Thanks, that is what he was wearing when I saw him too. I wonder if they are ALL sequins? Or sequins and crystals, as I have noticed that some gems sparkle with colors much more than a seqin could? Something to ponder. Thanks again!

I saw him when he came here in 2013. Is a fucking legend. Goodbye yellow brick road is legendary. I love Sacrifice, and specially Have mercy on the criminal.
-
Saw Elton John last November in Sweden on his follow the yellow brick rd tour, really excellent show and going again at end of May as hes playing in Kent near where I live. Still would like to hear him perform songs like Holiday Inn, Mona lisa and mad hatters, Honky Cat and Nikita. Also would love to catch his Las Vegas show where alongside the usual hits hes added Indian Sunset and Empty Garden (his John Lennon Tribute) He doesnt appear to be showing any signs of slowing down, long may he continue.

Elton is doing Outside Lands this year but I just don't think I can take the rude pushing crowds again this year.
