I'm tuning out for a good ten minutes for LMRI and the Hendrix story...the only thing that could liven that shtick up on Friday would be raising Hendrix from the dead. Does he think his concerts just disappear after they happen? These are memories in peoples' minds...they're documented on disc...people come back, especially in a place like New York City. He has told that Hendrix story at ever single NY area appearance for at least the past twelve years if not longer. I don't know. And I know he now says "if you've seen the show before, you'll know..." but it's not just that. GENYC gets a lot of airplay on concert channels. People are VERY familiar with the program, not just the "fans on the run"...
Weren't you the last LMRI apologist? Jeez... we really need a heavy shake-up. And yeah, the "once in a lifetime crowd" has been served very well in 2002-2005 and 2009-2013 already. I predicated this before he even announced the gigs, but in Europe he didn't do his reputation any favours the last tour. I'm afraid we won't see him back. And it's at last going to happen in the ever forgiving US crowd now as well, the way things are looking. How often can The New York Times review virtually the same show? The lack of buzz and ticket sales says enough. It doesn't have to be like this, but we all know McCartney thinks 40 songs rotated across 5 years is enough.
Is it over yet? Seriously...I love the song to the end of time, and I really don't mind it in the show. It's the Hendrix story I hate. It's stale and it's something that is explicitly supposed to NOT be stale. Most of the shows I've been to since 2015 or so, I've been able to hear someone nearby (other than myself) completing the story for a friend before Paul could. It's really that bad. I'm ready for a bluesy unplugged version of "Let Me Roll It" to replace oh say, "Four Five Seconds" with a smoldering accordion solo from Wix.
Yeah, the weird thing is when he does the smaller "no fans, only big wigs and connections, please" gigs he does tell some different stories, which do come across as spontaneous. Of course us hardcore fans know those stories as well, but he doesn't phone them in. It's not that he's got a lack of stories (let alone songs...), he just doesn't want to change his pattern. Positive point: his voice tonight sounds tolerable.
-
Totally agree and yes, his voice is in good shape tonight...alas, "Maybe I'm Amazed" is comin' round the mountain any minute now so he'll soon fix that!
-
As a friend of my recently said, for whom the song holds a very special place in his heart: "I'd wish I could just walk away at his current gigs during this song..."

Piano set done, signs story, his mind says don't look at the signs, "sign my butt", yeah let's have a look at it, yada yada, 'We Can Work It Out'.

He just read a sign that said "I will fight for the right to live in freedom".

A missed opportunity to play the chorus 'round once or twice. Doesn't need any fancy production or anything.
-
Colin Hanton and John "Duff" Lowe finally mentioned for 'In Spite Of All Danger', instead of the very petty "some guys" story. Someone is now going to tell me this was already the big addition the previous leg.

"...and Duff kept it for 20 years!" I'm glad he did, otherwise the other guys would probably have lost the disc and we would not have it now

This. Acoustic guitar was on already. Abe Jr. would chime in. Like when the buzzing general admission standing crowd in The Netherlands would go into 'Yellow Submarine' (2012) or 'Give Peace A Chance' (2009, 2015, 2016) by themselves in any random key and McCartney would just go into the song instantly.

Yes...I remember Duff being name-dropped in Tampa...don't really remember it happening last year though.

Haha, very good point. Just like so many treasures which got lost. It's crazy this recording even exists.

Hehe, there we go, as expected.
-
Fair singalong for 'You Won't See Me', don't hear that often.
-
Sign in the front row called out: 110 times, I wonder who that is ;)?
-
We didn't mention 'Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five': crazy to think it's here for 7,5 years now. I went to Dublin in 2010 solely because I knew he would drop it instantly... Also, again, realise he did drop that spine-tingling arrangement of 'Here, There & Everywhere'. He just dropped it. He added a jewel like that, in that way, and it was gone just like that. Here's 'Let Me Roll It' again. What a man.
-
I'm really glad I got to hear "Here, There..." on piano last year, it was beautiful.
