New Music Books Out On...
-
Ceelo Green (currently a "The Voice" coach, and a famed hip hopper eclectic jive rap world music star) has a new autobiography. Probably a wild read
-
Just got Morrisey's book, will finished my crime novel i'm halfway through and attack that one
-
Morrisey's is bound to be interesting--he's so honest and opinionated. He sure isn't afraid to express his dark side
-
Jane & Serge, A Family Album. Picture book by Andrew Birkin, Jane's brother. Serge Gainsbourg was known as "the French Bob Dylan" in some quarters. A favorite song of his is "Bonnie and Clyde" sung by Serge and Brigette Bardot, his lover at the time. They starred in the music vid for "Bonnie and Clyde." I love the sexy song, and how they sing it
-
Elvis Presley's last girlfriend and fiancé Ginger Alden's memoirs about her time with Elvis comes out August 2014.
-
Duane Allman's daughter has a new book out about him, it's interesting, just got it out from the library along with singer Toni Braxton's new memoir called "Unbreak My Heart."
-
Marianne Faithfull has a new "coffee table book" out "On the Record" as sort of a companion piece to her new album, "Love to London," it features many full page glossy photos of her illustrious musician friends. A new book about Aretha Franklin is out also and a biography of Jerry Lee Lewis by Southern award-winning journalist Rick Bragg.
-
The Dwayne Allman book was depressing, overall His daughter kept bitching about his dying too soon and she didn't really get to know him well (guess she's got a right to complain about that!). This is one music tome that may not have been ghost-written as her aspiration is to be a scribe. A new book of Joni Mitchell interviews is on the way--she claims her life has mainly been a misery--is almost a recluse now, has a lot of health problems and is bitter about many things in her past. Says all her marriages were bad.
-
Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon's new autobiography "Girl In The Band" is well-reviewed, must be a corker
-
Keith Richards' autobiography "Life" was a good read. And "Bruce", an authorized biography of Bruce Springsteen by Peter Ames Carlin, was well worth it. Much garbage out there when it comes to biographies, and Beatles/Beatle is no exception, with writers who make up a lot of gossip to get attention on the book and sell more. It's finding those that have gone through some kind of a criteria.
-
Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders will put out an "extremely honest" biography in 2016. It will be interesting to read about her friendship with Linda McCartney, among other things. And about her marriages to rock stars, and especially about her music.
-
Willie Nelson's new autobiography is wonderful--he's full of love which is very refreshing, and illustrates how his music got him through hard times without getting cynical and bitter, and shares his creative process, some of his favorite original lyrics and vivid interesting anecdotes and memories. Willie is still writing and recording copiously and still touring a lot at age 82. He will receive the George and Ira Gershwin Prize for Songwriting with the honors gala to be held at the White House. And televised on PBS. Has written "hundreds" of songs. His spirit and joyful life force are inspiring.
-
Carly Simon's new memoir will come out in the Fall
-
Hi SusyLuvsPaul!!! How are you? I've read some of the books that you mentioned, they're pretty good!!! I'm waiting for the ZED ZEPPELIN book "5 Glorious Days" referring to LED ZEPPELIN'S 5 triumphant days at Earl's Court in May 1975.
-
Hay to you in San Antonio, is that it, or somewhere in Texas. Thank you. I especially enjoyed Willie Nelson's and Stevie Nicks recent books.
-
Jewel autobiography entitled "Not Broken"
-
Toni Tenniell of The Captain and Tenneill coming out with a tell-all, will reveal her ex-hubby and music partner was an odd duck (she's not being loyal to him, but I guess she's telling it like it is, she thinks)--they weren't huge as artists, just a MOR pop duo, but Toni had a good singing voice.
-
Grace Jones, John Fogerty (Creedance Clearwater Revival) and Elvis Costello have all published new books
-
Patti Smith has a follow up to her first autobiography "Kids" out now, called "M Train."
-
New Michael Jackson biography: "The Genuis of Michael Jackson" by Steve Kopper Chrissie Hynde's autobiography is entitled "Reckless" and subtitled "My Life as A Pretender" (she seems genuine, though!) John Fogerty's is called "Fortunate Son: My Life, My Music" and among other things describes his dismay when the other band members wanted to contribute their original songs to albums by Creedence Clearwater Revival. He implies they weren't good songwriters. That he was the head honcho in that department. Seems a bit of a diva(?).
