THE NEXT DELUXE/REMASTERED ALBUM FROM PAUL

That is just silly, this release makes all the sense in the world. New album not being ready I believe quickened this release. This would have been done eventually as these are widely off the shelves. Label change makes it logical to release these again under the Capitol flag. It may not be what we want, but having them back on the shelves continue a steady stream of revenue. Very simple business decision. Like many of you, I would rather have a new album or even a new archive as a consolation prize but I think they were expecting the new album this year and didn't prepare another archive in expectation of the delayed album. Bottom line, having product on the shelves for Christmas season rather than not having product on the shelves is a no brainer decision
Ok, business wise sure having something out there. I can separate that out from my personal preference of wanting something newer instead. Personally I will skip this batch of releases for something else.
These aren't gonna be back on the shelves...they are limited items.

That is incorrect, the colored vinyl is limited. The regular vinyl and cd versions will be back on the shelves

Oh, the colored vinyl is what I thought was being discussed. Those are the pictures that have been floating around & those are what I was referring to.

No problem, this release is three fold....8 albums done in regular vinyl, single cd and limited colored vinyl. Which is why is was smart on their part. It puts those 8 titles back on the shelves for Holiday shopping and beyond and hoping to take advantage of the limited vinyl having mass appeal. Either way it puts those titles back on the shelves under the Capitol banner this time

Besides these titles, it's strange that there seems to be no Beatles-related archive release at all this season, Paul or otherwise, unless I'm missing something?

You do seem to be missing something. Late March, the McCartney team released the latest Archive in Flowers in the Dirt. They have never had more than one archive release on different dates. They have occasionally released pairs on the same date but not on split dates. As far as Beatles, they released the 50th Anniversary Sgt Pepper boxed set in June. And BTW, it's awesome!!! As far as George, John and Ringo's solo sets, they have never released huge archive boxed sets celebrating a single album like MCCartney. However, John and George have both released boxed sets of their albums remastered. John in a single boxed set and George with two smaller boxed sets. At this point, Ringo is the only one left to remaster and re-release his solo catalog. In addition, John has released a large Anthology box with lots of outtakes. I really doubt much more is left in the Lennon vaults. There would be no reason to expect additional archive sets by either Paul or Apple. But these release of the Concorde sets sans bonus tracks actually is smart and would have been eventually done to restock the shelves with all of the sets now available under the Capitol label instead of the original Concorde label that Paul was with at the time of their original release. Plus, Christmas time is the best time to put those things back out there. I think initially, they had expected the new studio album by Paul to be done by now. I say this as they offered copies as part of ticket buying for the concerts this year. As we all know, new album is not coming this year and by recent interviews is not even done yet

Sorry, I guess my question was not clear. Yes, I know about all of those things (and I have them all!), I'm talking about THIS season, the holiday season. I shouldn't have used the word "archive," I meant just general reissues from the archives of the Beatles or solo Beatles. There is usually SOMETHING for the Christmas season, other than the sets that have already been coming out all year. "Anthology" on Blu-ray, perhaps? "Early Takes, Vol. 2" from George? But I suppose you're right that all year they've been gambling on a new Paul album coming out this fall, and they wanted everyone focused on that, maybe mindful of the fact that they put out the second Beatles BBC collection in the same fall season as "New," and that maybe "New" would have done better if that were the only release. And I do agree with your reasoning for the vinyl Paul releases, because I said it two weeks ago, on the previous page of this thread: "Seems to me that they realized there was no other McCartney product ready to go for this fall, so they came up with this idea."

Well, I understand the complaints about the vinyl releases, but there are some people who didn't get to buy them upon first release, and for a while some of the titles were OOP. As for me, I broke down and bought the entire colored vinyl collection, so Merry Christmas to me when it arrives.

I would actually love to have them. I just can't justify buying them, since I have all the original vinyl, all the CDs, and all the Archive reissues.

Bob, A few follow up questions/comments: 1.) When you think no more archive sets, do you mean this year for no more releases or no more releases from that series this year? 2.) Re: Lennon - Think I agree that there may not be much left in the vaults. I'm in my early 40s and have been able to collect a lot since early 1990s. I know probably not feasible from a strictly business standpoint, but could there ever be an archive series like Paul for John's albums (2cd plus deluxe packages). 3.) Re: above, something like this for George? 4.) I know least likely for Ringo, but what about a set that brings all out of print albums back onto cd (like the 1994 re releases of Stop and Smell The Roses, Ringo The Fourth, Bad Boy, including Time Takes Time, all while adding bonus tracks to each one out of print.). Essentially a Ringo box from say 1970 to around 2000, at the very least? Interested in feedback.

Ed, (1) Yes, my statement was no more archive sets this year by McCartney camp. Historically there has never been two different release dates for archive sets in one year. There has been 2 sets released on the same date but never on split dates. Since we already have gotten the Flowers In The Dirt set this year, I said no reason to expect another one for this year As for the continuation of the archive series, really no factors pointing either way. I would think that it will continue at least for a bit more but purely a guess. But again, I would expect whether it will be 1 or 2 archives, it will be released together on the same day. It's the way they've done it for 7 years now, don't see a change now (2) I really can't foresee much left in the Lennon vaults, I know there was talks of one of the lives cd's this time with rehearsal tracks added. Can't remember which one it was (i'm sure somebody here will remember) but I think archival wise, it is pretty much exhausted (3) George has already released all of his albums remastered in two smaller boxed sets album collections so I don't see his estate doing anything more with that. However, for some time now, there was talk of a finished outtake boxed set (career spanning) by Dhani Harrison. When asked why it had not been released, he stated ask the record company who declined to release it. Don't know why they would do that unless they are waiting for a particular anniversary to release that. I don't foresee Dhani lying about it being done, there's no point for that Also talk of Early Takes Vol 2 but still we have not seen it. Olivia has also talked at interviews of giving some of George's unreleased songs to certain friends to finish them off. With Tom Petty gone, that may throw a wrench in that but who knows at this point (4) Ringo, I would not be surprised if Ringo's catalog got a release lie they did with George's and Lennon's catalogs...small boxed set album collection but in all honesy, there may not be enough demand even by hard core fans like us to make it worth the record company's time

The coloured vinyl re-releases are "limited edition". Anyone know to what extent they are limited? 2,000, 20,000, 200,000?

No one seems to know for sure, but there are a few articles about it here: http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/the-pound-is-sinking-new-price-for-paul-mccartney-vinyl-reissues/

Thanks favouritething. Yeah, I'd already read the comments on the SDE website without finding a definitive answer - so I thought I'd ask on here in case anyone had any inside info.

Coloured vinyl - what a load of rubbish. Meanwhile, browsing on youtube recently, I discovered that Aha's Take On Me has half a billion views; likewise The Police's Every Breath You Take. While Paul's most fondly remembered song of that era, No More Lonely Nights, doesn't even have an official presence on youtube. They know nothing at all about marketing at MPL.

Any vinyl is rubbish nowadays (in my opinion) & just a cash grab.
